    For even under $1,000, I'm really happy with the Jamo C 97 II that you recommended. The new WFH paradigm meant that I had to incorporate a home office in what was previously my relaxation space. I had to re-arrange the furniture and now the speakers are less than 5 feet away from my chair and the speakers are then about 7 feet away from each other and aren't positioned against a wall (it's a weird space I'm working with). Even with the weird layout, the Jamo's completely disappear and the sound fills my loft wonderfully. Vocals sound as though they're much further back in the loft than right in my face (even though the speakers are within spitting distance) and drums typically manage to come from behind the vocals. "Bubbles" by Yosi Horikawa is just amazing to listen to on the Jamo speakers.

    I was in the market a couple of months ago. I was all set to get the Klipsch 8000F towers when I headed to my local audio dealer. I asked the salesman what else I should consider for the budget. He had me listen to the Paradigm Monitor SE 8000f. In the store I had a hard time choosing between the 2. I purchased BOTH and did a side by side in MY HOUSE. I kept the Paradigm and returned the Klipsch. I felt they had more from top to bottom and felt like the mid was too thin with the Klipsch.

    We just pulled a pair of *brand new speakers* out of the box that sound SO GOOD!! A quick positioning closer to the wall and dude! So good. All this nonsense about needing 100+ hours of break in...I just can't get over the fact that some people really believe this and are willing to WAIT for 100s of hours before they can start enjoying something. Life is too short for that!! Stop making excuses for stuff that you just really don't like (not to mention succumbing to marketing manipulation). It's okay to put it back in the box and try something else.

      The capacitors in a speaker's crossover will break in as they 'form' - that's legitimately a thing, to what extent is debatable:) Having said that Dynaudio speakers are the only speakers where I ever experienced a pronounced difference in performance after going through an extended break-in period.

    • @rosswarren436
      @rosswarren436 3 роки тому

      @@decoryder it is one thing to wait a bit for a woofer's surround to become more pliable or the "spider" but to wait for a freaking capacitor to somehow change its electrical value (when it shouldn't ever if it isn't an old style electrolytic one) sounds mostly like snake oil.
      Sorry, but I work with many electrical engineers and they say they design circuits using components specified to certain values and they DON'T expect those values to change much over the lifetime of the device if it isn't abused electrically or environmentally.
      Capacitors are simple devices. They build up and hold a charge then release it when asked.
      If they are using such cheap capacitors that they do change their values and they are relying on that to make their speakers sound better after 400 hours of "burn in", then it begs the question of how much more they might change in value over time?
      If I'm going to drop $1000 on a speaker it better play the same over at least 10 years.
      I'm not a "flat Earther", but I'm not buying it...literally....

    I'd like to hear you start making comparisons to the Fluance XL8F since you did a product video for them vs a review. A little insight to how you really feel about the XL8Fs.

    • @andrewrobinsonreviews
      @andrewrobinsonreviews  3 роки тому +1

      The XL8F speakers are great, very easy to listen to for long periods of time. A bit bass heavy which makes them more full-bodied than a lot of other speakers. They need careful placement and a good amp with solid bass control. But they're an option, for sure.

    Elipson is more known for their globe speakers which nowadays are named Planet. Otherwise they make entry hifi range products which compete more with brands like Jamo. The french have several big loudpeaker brands like Elipson or Davis Acoustique as entry level, Cabasse, Triangle and Focal as middle class to high end level and and high end with Jean-Marie Reynaud, Kelinac, Pierre Etienne Léon or Atohm and plenty of artisan brands like Pier Audio or Supravox. It is not an complete list there are really a lot of them

    Towers speakers for two grand or under per pair. Hmmm, I would like to see review of the Polk R700 towers. Throw in some Paradigms, and maybe some Fluence towers. And just sir back and see if the Klipsch 8000's eat them for lunch,or maybe surprise you.
    Personally I'm really wondering if the new Polk R700's are going to put Polk back in the ring as a contender, in that price range.
    And let's not forget some Elac's. And they have to do double duty as well. Great video as usual, and keep up the great work.

      For many people speakers need to play well at lower volumes as well as loud. Wonder if the new Polks are better in that regard than the ELACs? (Still offer some richness and dynamics)?

    Since you compared them a bit with the set of Jamo speakers costing much less, how would they stack up to the Fluance XL8F that you seemed to have a good experience with? If I remember correctly (without pulling up that video) you didn't have the same issues with the XL8F's that you mention with these Elipson's. I'd like to hear you include the XL8F's into some future speaker reviews if possible.

    As far as your question about speakers I'd be very curious to hear the new monitor audio silver seventh generation that just launched. Recently heard the 6th gen silvers and golds and was amazed after hearing many other top brands in the same space.

    Excellent review Andrew and Kristi, as always. ProAc is a British speaker manufacturer who does not get much love in the U.S. They have a well earned reputation for being warm, and a tad forward. I have owned many pairs over years and still own one (or two but whose counting?). Anyway, I was wondering if you have tried reaching out to them to get in some of their recent offerings like the Tablette 10, Response DB1, or the classic SM-100 remake? I would very much enjoy hearing your opinion on any of their line-up. But those would make great entry points for a serious musical lover.

    Hi sir First thank you for all you do for promoting the hobby of hifi , no easy task with the amount of equipment out there . When it comes to speakers it’s a particularly form of mine field that can be a difficult path to negotiate , especially having reviewed the kef meta stand mount speakers no pun intended . But it is the nature of the job to try and explain the virus components available , be they good bad or indifferent . I wonder from my perspective as a hifi enthusiast dating back to 1970 , weather you might consider concentrating on systems that are a totally packaged . You both by now know what does and does not work together , so why not capitalise on that knowledge and say (right here are our go to setups ) . My humble reasoning is most people never ever get the opportunity to see never mind hear the equipment you have access to , so who better to give informed advice. My journey in hifi has been long and not without its costs , so if you can help people to avoid some of the pitfalls what’s not to like . Best wishes and kind regards to you both 😀👍👍👍

  • @TylerStout
    @TylerStout 3 роки тому

    Kinda makes me wonder if they are wired up wrong internally, as out of phase would cause bad bass and poor stereo imaging and that combined with some cabinet resonance could cause some strange sounds. I've seen people with that issue before as you think you hooked it up right because all the colors match up but the issue is within the speaker. Although I'd expect you to be able to pick up on that considering how long you've been in the business so it probably isn't that. Audioholics had a pretty good roundup a few years back and 8000f, Paradigm 800f and SVS Prime Pinnacle I believe being the standouts but I'd also say Revel f36, and Kef either q750 or q950 would also do well or Wharfedale EVO4.4. Like you guys said a lot of good choices in that range.
