I heard the X1 and X3 at SoundSociety 2024 in Copenhagen this past weekend. The X1s were very impressive the first few minutes, but became fatiguing due to sibilance and being too aggressive in the high frequencies. The X3s were much more balanced, but also in a much bigger room. Impressive what they can do with small drivers and if you want the highest level of detail, then these are for you. Not for me personally, but that could also be due to the amp pairings (not tubes) and the rooms... HAHAHAA, didn't watch the full video before commenting. Such a big difference in our perception of these speakers.
Which sounds more realistic? $7k/pair PS Audio Aspen FR5 versus Borresen X1 $6.5k/pair I currently love my GoldenEar BRX with AMT tweeters + neonydium magnets. I also use 2 1500 watts 9 in subs. ----- source=Apple Music lossless.
I heard these at the Toronto Audio Show back in October and stayed in that room for well over an hour. They sounded great no matter what was thrown at them.
Have owned YG carmel 1, then Magico Q3, Magico S3 mk2, Wilson alexia 2 and now Borresen X3, I totally agree with you Jay - those are FANTASTIC speakers in every way one could imagine, in fact it’s more detailed than any of the previous I’ve owned, the only one that could come close is the Alexia 2 which has more bass oomph but given the fact that most of us do live in moderate rooms the X3 is the total winner here! Considering its price point its the best bargain in today’s crazy high end prices
Hi thanks for your comment , so the borresen x3 at $11,000. Is better than the magico, yg and wilson, can you describe the sound differences a little more
I have a paar of Z3 cryo in use since the end of January 2024. Attached an integrated I-280 from Aavik all I can say, their sound is really astonishing.
My current setup is a dcs Rossini DAC with clock, D'Agostino Progression S350 power amp, Borresen 03 Cryo. I'm totally loving it. Give it 400-500 hours and this setup is a dream.
About a year ago, I heard the X3 driven by Aavik U280 and man was I caught off guard by the combo's performance !! Purity, flesh ,micro and macro dynamics are all there! Amazing speakers indeed! Since I love the sound of the X1 from Raidho, naturally I was mightily impressed with the Boressen as well! Thx for your comparison since I am debating myself over AGD or AXXESS, I think Forte 1 is what I would prefer more!
I am in the same boat now, I have a dealer coming over on the weekend with the audions (in black now :O) ) But now I am conflicted. Only thing I have no way to audition the AXXESS and I am a little concerned the Forte 1 may cause some listening fatique over time. I have the Borresen X3 and added 2 carbon special Rels.. What a difference with a pair of quality subs.
I have the forte 1 and can not believe how good it it. The amp, dac, steamer is amazing. You could honestly put it head to head with a $20000 integrated and hold your head high.
Excellent review. I very much enjoy the way you do lots of comparisons, and experiment with configurations. I have the AGD Audions also, and your description of their sound is spot on. I have them paired with Nola Champ S3’s. It sounds like we both have a preference for sound that is slightly warm side of neutral, and appreciating some of the more liquid, saturated, organic qualities in music. I recently purchased a Grimm MU2 digital DAC, streamer, server and preamp. This is a superb digital source and preamp to run in front of the Audions, and it even provides an excellent analog input for my vinyl setup.
Excellent, detailed review. One of your best for sure. love how you took your time testing them with different amps. I hope I can listen to them one day.
Reminds me of your Totem tribe tower review. Spendy, great sounding, good looking micro towers with 4.5” in-house drivers. Ultimately for me, i need big woofers to keep me engaged long term.
These don't even come close to the Tribe Towers. Yeah both have relatively small drivers but the similarities end there. There is nothing I can say that will sway you or others with regards to how much bass the Borresens have. It is a new sound and quality, fast, articulate, and impactful bass is one of their most appealing aspects. They could have designed with larger woofers but they didn't for a reason. It didn't meet their requirements but instead push the envelope with their in house drivers to achieve the sound they are after.
Many seem to give Ribbon AMT and Horn speakers a miss, i can understand why, some are implemented poorly. Ribbon is my favourite hf by far, i will definitely look out for these .
I was thoroughly impressed with this speaker and I'd be curious to hear the X3 as a comparison. I hope you're able to review the Vincent SP-T700 Class-A Hybrid Mono amps one day.
I think maybe short coming with the PS Audio/AGD combo is because you used the DAC's built in volume control. A dedicated pre-amplifier might sound better. There are very few DAC's that have volume controls that match a dedicated preamp.
yes, the ruby red color as one swirls the juice in the decanter , sparkles as the light reflects off of the tiny particles of sediment. the initial taste is sweet with a hint of oak and a finish of saffron . the full bodied viscosity gives it an avocado like texture floating in a sea of liquid air . truly sublime . Interesting how well the X2 worked with Miller Audio ST70. Getting the bass that amazes everyone out of the X2's 4ish inch woofers it really helps to have 100-200 watts of class-D power as the other amps provide. I call tube watts 'jumbo watts' because the ST-70s 35wpc can get it done with the X2. Looking forward to a full review of the Miller Audio ST-70 with other speakers.
I have the Scansonic MB5B speakers, MB standing for Michael Börresen, and they are also a steal for the money and play on a level of speakers 3 to 4 times their price.
My jaw dropped at the Florida Audio Expo In Feb 2024. I asked the rep the differences between an American speaker and a Danish speaker, and he said that they don't compare to speaker but the highest tier headphones.
Put these things on a Rotel Michi. It is one of the most neutral A/B amps and how it is engineerd is underappreciated for it's price. I think it will sit between the AGD and Forté 1.
I'd be curious how they compare to the Arendal 1723s (your speaker of the year). An assessment given from someone who's had opportunity first hand to audition both in their own space. How good are these high performing "budget" speakers against something supposedly more upscale. And also a tower speaker. I personally would rather spend fewer doubloons if the Arendals truly compare to something like the Boerresen X2 sonically.
Jay, I like the way you organized and presented this Borresen tower review. Given I do not see any Fyne Audio reviews on your channel, please review their F1-5 or F1-8 bookshelf speakers in the same manner you reviewed these Borresen towers. Thanks for all your work we see and hear.
@@cesargutierrez4999 I agree, I have the X3's both my last 2 loudspeakers were 10K more than these and it is not even close, for the extra 10K I bought a couple rel subs ;O)
Hello Jay! Thanks for the review of Børresen X2 Loudspeaker and all the other reviews you've made. You're videos are always very informative and I really enjoy watching your reviews. How do you think the Børresen X2 Loudspeaker is sounding compared to Sonus Faber Maxima Amator? right now I got the Q acoustics concept 500 + aavik U-280 combo..
❤❤❤❤❤ Ive said it many times.. and I'll keep saying it... Børresen Acoustics are doing some magic to bring this level performance into the under $10k range. Comparisons are tough - especially when dealers or brands arent always willing to offer items for it.. People will just have to go listen for themselves. 😊😊 Yes sir. Great production video and style.. slight changes.. and all suit the mood. 💯💯💯 Now.. I just need to get myself some.. 😂🎉🎉
13:52 I design and build speakers for a hobby and go through all the stuff you are talking about (like a slightly lean sound can bring out the detail). And if I give them more woofer, the voice sou ds more full, more "meat on the bone" but if you are not realyy picky about it, you will lose that beautiful open and incredibly detailed sound. It's always a fight between having punchy bass against amazing detail. 😅 And if you get just the right balance, the imaging can pop out like those fold out paper cutout cards (when opened). Especially with point source med range and treble. I like single driver with a woofer. The single driver by it's self is detailed but never as round in the med range without the woofer. The gritty med range of a FR driver can be completely smoothed out 100% with an added woofer! But the trick is to get a balance and not make the woofer get rid of the gritty sound completely. With the balance (how you want it) you get insane voice texture to die for (and promotes imaging). Too round, less image and too gritty, less image. But in between is imaging in heaven! Especially if the FR driver is ran open, on top of the box (and woofer in the box). But that means running the FR driver with a filter for equalisation (for open cone) as part of the crossover. That's what I do. I also slit the inner part of thecone a few times with a razer blade (right through). Like 8 mm cuts right around 3mm out and again, 1 cm out. With 5mm gaps (that are not cut) right around. This makes the best treble I heard! Even better than tweeters! No "sippy" sound cos there are no enclosed cavities (if the FR driver has a (stationary) phase plug. Not for the faint hearted but the best speaker I heard. Reverb and really sweet sounding reverb that is so much FUN to hear! But the reverb has to be in the recording for the start. These speaker just bring it on! 😅 The crossover is the hardest part (voicing). Luckily I do have reference speakers and I hate them (B&W 706s) and if a I make mine sound exactly the same, they still flog them. Voice sound is not "throaty" enough on either set (boring) but mine have reverb on some tracks that the B&Ws lack (big time). Like 2D instead of neatly 3D. But when I added a pinch of lower treble to mine, they instantly blew out (in image) like it exploded! So much more exciting and pinpoint voice sound. Defined! The med range in one word is that! It's is super clean (sounds like panel speakers). At least thats the best way describe the med range. Too much fun, "better than real"! 😅 The crossover is the secret to get the sweetest, most most fun sound (and open dipole makes it so much of an exciting and scary clean sound). I do sweeps too (just by ear) witch has actually helped (knowing that the room would affect it). Please try it and compare with other speakers you have. You will be shocked! 😅
A couple of months of listening. You must have really liked them. Thanks for the review and gear pairing descriptions. Do the feet adjust for levelling?
I am interested in the X3 or possibly the X2. I would love to know how the Soundstage and imaging compare to the KEF R3 Meta. I am using a PASS X250.8 amp and a VAC CPA1 Preamp
I’m going to do all you young people out. Buy a pair of Klipsch Heritage Speakers, the Klipsch-Horns, La Scalla’s, Cornwall, Belle’s, you will not regret buying them . Combine two pair and you move into crazy. Easily repaired, parts ready available. Basically your last speakers. For over thirty years I’ve ran them . Quality is unsurpassed and sound very nice. Still brings the hair up on my arms. Find a used set and make sure they are playing right, then rock for life ! Best money I ever spent in my music !
Other popular speakers in this price range that you might consider testing are the focal kanta No 2's, spendor D7.2, or the revel F226Be. Different flavors but around the same price. Have you thought of trying Cabasse pearl active speakers? They sound unreal for the money even though they look strange IMO. Might be worth doing an active/passive comparison. I'm always intrigued by active speakers since it cuts down on the gear matching.
Nice video. I would like to see Boressen X1 in test cause it is very interesting proposition. Anyway. I would compare Boressen X2 with KEF Reference 3 Meta, that would be really interesting "duel".
These speakers are fantastic. They produced exceptional music in their two demonstration rooms at the Munich HiEnd. Unfortunately they are also exceptionally expensive. Hifi producers are catering only for very rich people…..mind you, not necessarily audiophiles!
Any of the KEF R Meta series would be interesting. And do you still have a Hegel amp floating around? I would appreciate a comparison of Hegel and Axxes 👏🏻👏🏻 Love your channel Jay, thank you!
Hi Jay, great comarison as always. From my perspective it would very interesting to challenge them against Audiovector R3 Avantgarde, yet another Danish producer in the same price range.
I have the Focal Kanta 2, does this have more quanity of bass than those? Im looking to upgrade my speakers. Having come from Polk R500, to Klipsch RF7 III, to the Kanta 2... Borreson, and in particula Scansonic is on my radar.
Great review, thank you. I would be very interested to see the comparison of the X2s to Audio Vector QR 7 SEs and Triangle Magellan Cello 40ths. I know I’m asking for too much but, hey, you’re the best reviewer out there and who else can I ask?
Absolutely stunning speakers after six months of playing. Best speakers I've ever had - regardless of price and size - and I've had quite a few, including Focal Sopra, Revel Performa, Dali Epicon, KEF Reference...
Hi Jay, thanks for the thorough review! Can you compare these with other speakers you have been raving about, like the Totem Element metal V2 (and the Tribe Towers)? I would love to hear your opinion on this.
The Borresen X series is very much on my radar of speakers to audition. My current speakers are from Martin Logan's new Motion XT line, so I'm curious to hear how the MLs stack up with the X series Borresens at some point!
you said this speaker was one of your 3 favorite systems. What are your other two. Did either of the other two systems include Sonus faber Maxima Amator? THANK YOU
Wouldn't placing the speakers 2 feet from the front wall measured from the front baffle put the back of the speakers about 3 inches from the wall given that the speakers are over 21 inches deep?
Borreson was able to do it with Raidho and is doing it again with the Borreson lineup. These are a must audition especially with the Axxess forte lineup.
Hi, thank you for the detailed review and therefore I ask if these speakers or X3 will fit my Hegel H600 if not which speakers would work with this amplifier. You have heard many speakers but I have not and I have a difficult choice, I like transparent sound but not sharp. At the price of Borresen X3 and a bit more expensive👍👌😊
They look like satori woofers but they make their own so I guess not. 3 ports probably helps with the shuffling I'm sure they know what they are doing. They woofers are spread far apart. I wonder if it's a 2.5 design in the crossover. Lots of holes in your hardwood floors. I have been using big rubber adjustable feet on my speakers. I'm sick of destroying my floors
Hi Jay, great review. I'm curious, if you have the budget for a pair of Focal Diablo Utopia Colour EVO Bookshelf Loudspeakers, which speakers would you choose, the Bossen X or the Focal Diablo Utopia Colour EVO Bookshelf speakers?
I agree that Radiho speakers are unlistenable, at least that has been my experience at CES and audio shows where they had a room ( I don't what amps they used). Those 4.5" woofers in the Borresen X2 must have wildly long excursions to get down to a claimed 40Hz especially at a sensitivity of 88dB.
Hi Jay - just wondering if you tried any isolation products with the x2? Curious if it made any improvement. Also would like to see a Dynaudio comparison.
I heard these at American Sound a while ago …now are they worth the money 💴…hard to say .. A:Freak’n Expensive B:Boulder Electronics. But no doubt a fabulous speaker …but damn
Hey Jay, great review on the speakers. Are you going to do a shoot out between the ST 70 og and Bryan Millers mods? Did you use the 4 ohm tap on the modded amp when hooked up to Boressen? Do you have an easier to drive set of speakers for these tube amps?
Steve Guttenberg said in his recent review about X3 that it sounds like a small speaker and may need a subwoofer. I would think X2 would sounds even more like a small speaker. Can you comment on that? Thanks.
Thank you much, Jay. This is today's audiophile's difficulty. To do listening audition on most high end gears simply becomes almost impossible because not many audiophile dealers.
Very good review, thanks. I unfortunately have not been on your web page as of lately. What is your new ( to me ) rear diffuser panel ? It looks VERY interesting.
Hi Jay, thanks for all your reviews, you ask for suggestion to compare, you could try to do a compare with about danish speaker audiovector r3 arreté br, Lars
Have you heard speakers with the Satori textreme woofers? I wonder how they compare with the Borresen woofers... They are at least very similar in appearance, of course I know that doesn't mean much, haha.. but both seem to be using very similar materials or the cone at least.

Interesting. Lots of truth here.
A couple of months of listening. You must have really liked them. Thanks for the review and gear pairing descriptions. Do the feet adjust for levelling?
Awesome 😎 jay the millers , thanks buddy
I would love to have a match up againt the Revel f226 be 🤩
Hi Jay! Great review! From wall, you say “2 feet to front baffle”. Do u mean 2 feet to back of speaker given speaker is 21 inches deep?
They are great but not my taste… I like Devore Fidelity O/96 and Mon Acoustic PlatiMon.
Borresen is a much more modern sound cleaner, emanates from a distant hauntingly black background with ease. Not a shouting horn blaring at you. 🎉
Wait, that TexTreme driver is made in house instead of custom ordered from SBAcoustics?
Nice video. I would like to see Boressen X1 in test cause it is very interesting proposition. Anyway. I would compare Boressen X2 with KEF Reference 3 Meta, that would be really interesting "duel".
Hi Jay, do the Stack Audio feet improve the sound of the AGD. Very good review as usual Thank you
Is the sweet spot (horizontally) really quite small as I have read, what would you say? And are they good for quiet listening?
Brilliant review brother! Just curious, have you listened to the X3 as well?
These speakers are fantastic. They produced exceptional music in their two demonstration rooms at the Munich HiEnd. Unfortunately they are also exceptionally expensive. Hifi producers are catering only for very rich people…..mind you, not necessarily audiophiles!
Are you Adrians son??🤔😁👍🏁🎶🎶🎶🎶 Good stuff Jay!
Any of the KEF R Meta series would be interesting. And do you still have a Hegel amp floating around? I would appreciate a comparison of Hegel and Axxes 👏🏻👏🏻 Love your channel Jay, thank you!
I've got my eyes on this for a stereo setup with the x3 or x6. After I save for a long time. 😂
💚❤💙🧡
Hi Jay, great comarison as always. From my perspective it would very interesting to challenge them against Audiovector R3 Avantgarde, yet another Danish producer in the same price range.
I have the Focal Kanta 2, does this have more quanity of bass than those? Im looking to upgrade my speakers.
Having come from Polk R500, to Klipsch RF7 III, to the Kanta 2... Borreson, and in particula Scansonic is on my radar.
Bookshelf and sub combo that's superior or comparable... around same price of X2?
Great review, thank you. I would be very interested to see the comparison of the X2s to Audio Vector QR 7 SEs and Triangle Magellan Cello 40ths. I know I’m asking for too much but, hey, you’re the best reviewer out there and who else can I ask?
These always seem to flash at shows (I've heard them more than once), but I seriously wonder what what it's like to own them six months in?
Would one know if this ribbon tweeter is the same as on the Raidho speakers ? This one is amazing 😮
Hey Jay…good stuff! Kiho Kim is gonna meet me at his coffee bar next month in Seoul 😊. Gonna check out his Brunoco gear!
Great review! It would be great if you could compare them to the X3
you said this speaker was one of your 3 favorite systems. What are your other two. Did either of the other two systems include Sonus faber Maxima Amator? THANK YOU
Was it a little cold in your room ?
Wouldn't placing the speakers 2 feet from the front wall measured from the front baffle put the back of the speakers about 3 inches from the wall given that the speakers are over 21 inches deep?
Guess those small woofers defy laws of physics
Borreson was able to do it with Raidho and is doing it again with the Borreson lineup. These are a must audition especially with the Axxess forte lineup.
Please do Focal speakers reviews!
Interesting what you say on the Riadho comparison. Do you think the Forte 1 would suit them being from the similar stable ?
Every week There is best in the world :-) Still, much to learn....
I can't find anywhere the frequency range of the mid-bass driver. What is the crossover point?
Hi Jay! Thanks for your excellent videos. I’m considering these loudspeakers and the X3 for my new Naim 200 series trio. Do you recommend it?
Every time he said Ride a hoe speakers, instead of raid-Oh when talking about Raidho. Made me laugh so hard.
..😂😂 ... Only you. 😂
Do you think that a Hegel h190 is a good fit for the X2’s?
I agree that Radiho speakers are unlistenable, at least that has been my experience at CES and audio shows where they had a room ( I don't what amps they used). Those 4.5" woofers in the Borresen X2 must have wildly long excursions to get down to a claimed 40Hz especially at a sensitivity of 88dB.
Hi Jay - just wondering if you tried any isolation products with the x2? Curious if it made any improvement. Also would like to see a Dynaudio comparison.
Please compare these to the Buchardt S400 mk2 . On what level are better ,equal or weaker? Thanks
I heard these at American Sound a while ago …now are they worth the money 💴…hard to say ..
A:Freak’n Expensive
B:Boulder Electronics.
But no doubt a fabulous speaker …but damn
Jay, what Bass Drivers is the X series using in their speakers? Perlisten comes to mind as they look like they use the same bass drivers.
Børresen build their own drivers from scratch.
Hey Jay, great review on the speakers. Are you going to do a shoot out between the ST 70 og and Bryan Millers mods? Did you use the 4 ohm tap on the modded amp when hooked up to Boressen? Do you have an easier to drive set of speakers for these tube amps?
Very very high-quality pristine presentation and content, well done !
Jay! I need your advice please. Sell my Cornwall iv’s and buy the x2’??
Steve Guttenberg said in his recent review about X3 that it sounds like a small speaker and may need a subwoofer. I would think X2 would sounds even more like a small speaker. Can you comment on that? Thanks.
it could be the gear, it could be the room, it could be many things... hear it for yourself.
Thank you much, Jay. This is today's audiophile's difficulty. To do listening audition on most high end gears simply becomes almost impossible because not many audiophile dealers.
@@howardlu2002I think that’s why a trip to an audio show is worthwhile
Very good review, thanks.
I unfortunately have not been on your web page as of lately.
What is your new
( to me ) rear diffuser panel ? It looks VERY interesting.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this va rosso Fiorentino certaldo
Great review. Could you compare these to the Kef R11 Meta with the same amps. I was considering the Forte 1's with the Kefs.
4:53 can you review that yba on the back? I am thinking about buying the a200 and if it is an a200 or a100 I would very much be happy to see a review.
Hi Jay, thanks for all your reviews, you ask for suggestion to compare, you could try to do a compare with about danish speaker audiovector r3 arreté br, Lars
How are they comparing to the arendal 1723 thx tower?
Any plans to get the Yamaha ns-5000 in?
Have you heard speakers with the Satori textreme woofers? I wonder how they compare with the Borresen woofers... They are at least very similar in appearance, of course I know that doesn't mean much, haha.. but both seem to be using very similar materials or the cone at least.
Would be intrested in seeing some Tekton Design comparisons for their full size and medium floor standers
