I always figured Splash was a reference to splash damage, a common damage type in many genres where the target isn't the only unit that takes damage from the attack, which would be reflected in the Joker's effect: Cards that aren't "targeted" by the hand you're playing still score anyway.

10:11 More specifically, "picking yourself up by your bootstraps" is a phrase which originally meant "to do something impossible" since you cannot literally lift yourself off of the ground by pulling at your boots, however the expression grew to be widely misunderstood and misused especially in contexts where someone more fortunate is lecturing someone worse off than themselves, who likely wouldn't have gotten into the scenario in the first place if they had the same standing in life. This is why the card has great potential to boost your mult and make your run successful, but only if you already have a lot of money.

Just to add on to 6:12 here, lust is associated with the heart suit for obvious reasons, the heart tends to be associated with love and passion. Diamond is greed because diamonds have a high monetary value. Wrath and Gluttony are more of a stretch in my opinion but I like to think of a spade as a dangerous object (like an arrowhead) and the club as a club sandwich.

    • @KaitouKaiju

Spades (especially ace of spades) means danger, death and misfortune. Some soldiers reportedly carried an ace of spades in vietnam war, to “challenge death itself”. This might be “wrath is destructive” kind of stretch.

8:37 Wanted to add that Hanging Chad is almost certainly a reference to the 2000 Presidential Election recounts in Florida between George Bush and Al Gore.
Due to how close the margin of victory was for Bush after the first count, Florida state law mandated a recount of votes. After the first recount, Gore insisted there be a second recount due to a several issues with the ballot cards, like the actual layout of the cards (if you look it up they're pretty similar to the Joker's design), and the issue of Hanging Chads, which became synonymous with the Florida recount situation as a whole.
So yeah, Hanging Chad forces 2 recounts of your first played card, much like how there were 2 vote recounts in Florida

You talked about the picture on Stuntman, but you didn't mention the reason WHY Stuntman depicts a stuntman:
The original design for the joker was "1 in 5 to give +500 Chips". This was later changed in the beta, but the name (referring to doing something risky, such as relying on Stuntman's effect) stayed the same.

    • @CrashGordon94

I guess it's still somewhat reflected in the hand size penalty making it "risky" in a way depending on what you play.

I liked it when you explain the correlation of the name/artwork with the mechanic/effect, but sometimes you just don't, like reserved parking, okay sure the artwork is inspired by something, but what does it relates to the face card on hand? I want to know it.
Also there is acrobat and stuntman, my guess is acrobat works on last hand because it is as if it avoided loosing by acrobating which in this case is gives x3 mult, for stuntman -3 hands is extreme but 300 chips is amazing hence why it's like a stunt

The misprint card also shows the next card you're drawing from the deck, 0:56 shows 11D which is Jack of Diamonds

I assumed that splash was called splash because it relates to flush. For flush every card is played and scored with a big multiplier and for splash everything is played and scored, but for less (without upgrading).

the spare trousers also have stiches on them and two colors, that implying that two pairs of pants might have been used to make this one

Im surprised the Plasma deck isnt on here, possibly referencing Thanos, being purple, and how the Chips and Mults box turns purple while saying Balanced. "Perfectly balanced, as all things should be."

More specifically, the hanging chad is most certainly a direct reference to the 2000 Election, where the term was made famous because they had to recount the votes multiple times in Florida- this this card retriggers multiple times

Golden ration is found in flowers via there petal layouts, but you showed multiple things with the golden spiral which is just one of many logarithmic spirals that appear in nature and the examples you showed have nothing to do with the golden ratio

9:02 One thing you missed, when you convert the fraction into a percentage, you get 66.66666...%
The name is joking that the percentage is quite literally "all 6s".
    Great video!
