I think it's a good idea to take a sharpie and write the correct capacitor size near where it mounts. Saves time on the next call and keeps down confusion. Sometimes technicians get creative with those capacitors LOL
I did a lot of caps last week. Mostly 40/5. You should get one of those Turbo 200 universal caps, they come in handy. You should bring a new disconnect also for the hot wired one.
Great video Jeff stock up those capiciters and when they come in put the correct ones on and Jeff if you carry r 22 keep it in the truck but offer them a conversion if necessary this is not the time with this heat to be replacing systems and ordering new ones it's just keep em running time and fix them. But keep r22 on the truck for those you know just need a small amount jobs. But if it has a leak offer a conversion.
I can’t believe how many caps you went through, at least they were easy calls. I have never went through this many caps in an entire week. This is mind blowing for me! Keep up with the great videos!
I am fighting my AC. It's an old r22 bastard Lennox. And yeah it's hot today. Been spraying thr condenser coild with a hose set to mist all day so I can get a little relief. I cleaned the coils, checked the caps last week, my compressor is hot too.
Great vid Jeff. Coming up on my one year as a tech mainly doing installs but whenever I get service calls I am both more thorough and knowledgeable and it has led to me being more valuable as a tech, thanks to your knowledge.
1) Probably stop that JARD crap. Turbo HD? 2) Suction pressure would still be normal with overcharge with a TXV metering. Fixed metering it would be high. TXV restriction would give you low suction and could give low head as well. It could be an overcharge with that high subcool and high head.
Capacitors are the weak link in almost all electronic circuits, even inside smart phones. With specialized equipment people can change them & save the phone & data.
I need to figure out how to speed up my service calls. I usually figure everything out but it seems it takes too long. I need a better process lol. Even with all the knowledge experience plays a huge roll
Very true. You can’t teach experience. I typically don’t move through my service calls this quickly but as slammed as I was I had no choice. Take your time, trust your process. 🤙
I learned early on to always keep a minimum of 5 each of the common size caps because the chances I would run that many service calls in a day with the same issue are slim then I restock anything I used before heading out the next day. For emergencies always had a Turbo 200 they are pricey but they will save your ass.
Might be something off balance. Blade might be bent, missing screws or not all tight. Hopefully the noise isn’t coming from the compressor… could be costly.
Cap graveyard. At least they were simple calls and not those calls that have you head scratching I’ve had a tough summer as well nonstop calls working 60 hours a week. This is kind of the reason I stocked turbos because they give you universal tabs and I’ll stock the common sizes as well. Keep them coming.
Keeping the condenser coil clean will help. But Units that are in direct sunlight get it worse. I know there isn’t much you can do after it’s installed but just things to look for.
Change your filters every 2 months, check the capacitor spring and mid summer and clean your condenser coil every spring. It’s like an apple a day and the doctor.
How can I start if no companies hiring cause experience and I did some time in school just go and clean there units ? I still need practice with installs like coils and condenser but part changer I got it somewhat
You will have to just keep trying for a place with an apprenticeship program. Make sure if you don’t have your EPA certification, get it. And the new A2L certification too. Good luck
@carlbass4449 that's after burning for a few hours in the hot Tennessee sun, trying to do a mind meld as to what the hell is causing it. I'm 95.555 percent sure it's got a slow leak in the evap coil. But... I'm a guitar player not an HVAC tech. (Which is why I do all my own electrical, plumbing and HVAC repair) If only mine was just a coil. But heck the heating coils are Trane, Air Handler an old Lennox Elete out of a Payless shoe store that went under. I can't really complain too much. I traded a Forrest Custom guitar for unit. It's 20 plus years old. But I keep it running. Put a QWIKLUG QT2812 kit on the compressor 4 years ago. That's how rotten this old dog is.
It was extremely low on r22, and the liquid line was obstructed so one side of the evaporator froze up immediately after adding inline leak sealer and r22. Working good now tho. I don't envy you guys. That's a hard job, doesn't look that tough, but any DIY guys could do more damage, plus the heat... Today's gonna be even hotter. I think I kinked the liquid line getting to the squirrel cage a month ago when I first started noticing it wasn't blowing cold. And that caused the obstruction exacerbating the problem. Luckily I have a couple good HVAC friends. Love your channel man. Stay cool!
I have a Carrier A/C that I just change the capacitor on that was change in 2019 that had a 45/5 in it for and model number called for a 40 /5 . I installed a AMRAD 40/5 and we just bought this house and I know it has the original compressor in it.Should I be worried about it? They used a marker to mark the date on it.PS. I change it and the contactor just because I used to do A/C work in Florida as I change profession to Appliance Repair. And know capacitor go out A lot. Running below normal on compressor amps and cooling ok.Opinions please! also unit installed in 2012 and now 2024.
Those Jard caps from RE are junk. I replace a bunch at the 3-5 yr old point. I buy and install mostly Mars Premium and Amrad brand caps now. 2-3X the cost but will last 2-3X longer!
that last unit definitely didn't need refrigerant... and maybe the fan blade needs to be adjusted up or down on the shaft... you had high head and suction... no way you need refrigerant... enjoy your channel.. no criticism.. just IMHO... cheers
After I washed the coil and it dried, the suction pressure was in the 50s. Superheat in the 40s. Sub cool was around 6 when the data plate called for 15. Head pressure was high but it was well over 90 out so it didn’t scare me
I have secound time capacitors blew during heatwave. Hard work center air conditioner hard to beat heatwaves. Electric billing so high. I decided stop using. I have two air conditioners window much better electric billing and able to beat heatwaves 😊
Thanks for the videos. I want to make a comment and really hope you don't take it the wrong way, because that's not my intent. Has your eye brows been that thin all your life? I ask because was doing research on somethings and one of the most common reasons people lose a third of their eyebrow is from things like hypothyroidism. Again not an insult.
ANY caps that I used in this video that were wrong WILL BE replaced with correct ones!
Man that maytag was overcharged. Micro channel is so easy to overcharge.

That’s what we carry, they’re not cheap but oh well. They replace any iteration you need
Txv was just doing its job and maintaining superheat. Only will a piston show no superheat on overcharge.
great videos. you should start carrying turbo capacitors very helpful

Thanks. Yea usually this happens on our first real bad heat wave of the summer. But usually never this bad.
Thanks for the support.
@@JeffsHVACAdventures ya we had a bad heat wave in PA this past week and just non stop no ac calls

Got to love those easy calls on a Sunday after a long ass week

Whatever you do, DON'T but another Lennox.
Good job bro I was on call this weekend too super busy glad it's over
Turbos 200s. You always have the right cap

Great job taking care of your costumers hot days brings the worst out in caps thanks for the video
Right you are!
next will be 5 drain clogs. good luck out there.
That's still a crazy amount of caps. They always come in waves, it appears.
Sure do!
Hot weather damages more capacitors than anything else; always make sure to use the right replacement, including voltage rating!
are capacitors inside unit/blower also stressed during hot weather> ?
It's a bad cap. I've had alot last week as well. Didn't realize you were located pretty close to me. Greeting from chesapeake virginia 🤙
Ayyyy right on. My parents live in Willamsburg. 🤙
Keep up the great work!
Well this vid was very ''Cap''tavating Thx
👏👏👏 well done sir! Lol
I keep at least 2 or 3 turbos on my van for these instances alone, nice work brotha!
Appreciate it 🤙
I changed out 7 yesterday.....last one is definitely a cap!!
Nice. Tis the season.
@@JeffsHVACAdventures I try to keep a couple turbo 200s as a back up....but used both of those today 😮
What is causing and what would fix an extra loud or thumping condensing unit?
Thx
Might be something off balance. Blade might be bent, missing screws or not all tight. Hopefully the noise isn’t coming from the compressor… could be costly.
Doesn't your supply house carry turbo 200 universal dual capacitors? They're expensive but you can put in the right size cap.
Yes they do. I should carry one.
These capacitors don’t seem to last like they used to. I had an old Tempstar that we replaced at 36 years. The capacitor still checked out good!
Definitely don’t make them like they used to.

It’s been a rough summer for sure. 60 hours is tough my friend. He you get the rest you need.
Is there anything us Home Owners can do to extend the life of the Caps? I’m in Florida. I do keep an extra capacitor in garage. 👍🏻 good video
Keeping the condenser coil clean will help. But Units that are in direct sunlight get it worse. I know there isn’t much you can do after it’s installed but just things to look for.
Buy an American-made AmRad capacitor. Their dielectric is a ton heavier and takes a lot more abuse. 5 year warranty.
Change your filters every 2 months, check the capacitor spring and mid summer and clean your condenser coil every spring. It’s like an apple a day and the doctor.
Clean weekly with a toothbrush
Your high on the suction side bub 145 with 410 is shit especially a 66 degree line temp, should be around 55
The new capacitors don't last long anymore. I have old orignal ones that came with the units from 2005 and they re still runing strong.
What brand cap are most reliable
Your right. I got a unit for 86 I maintain. 60mfd cap is as almost big as my arm. Still good.
@@mydeserthvac I buy Jard which is more available and seems more reliable.

Sight glass showing bubbles right before the dryer. So yeah...
Never believe the site glass bubbles until unit has been running a full 6 minutes..

Curious.. Why not use two capacitors instead of using the larger one and having to return to switch out? Thanks!
I wouldn’t want to leave two caps acting as one either. If I did have to do that, I usually go back to replace with correct one.
