The design of the top boat inside the black whale is suspicious as well, the design allows the top boat to escape once the chaos on the lower levels is out of control.
Because the people at the actual top of any society are never in actual danger, at least not from anything but themselves or truly cosmic forces. If everything beneath them sinks they always have people loyal and well paid enough to take them to some kind of sanctuary. Just look at Diego in Chimera Ant
The people at the top are rarely in danger because there smarter and well prepared. The stupid and weak at the bottom always eat themselves in their own foolishness. The only consolation is generally their great evil of the lower classes dies and more moral people rule in their place. Usually because morality is necessary without law and order.

The great thing about this is that the election arc and the chimera ant arc tie in so beautifully to the themes you explained here. From the human families reunited after being turned into ants, from the chaos and heart of the election arc, I love how Togashi never underestimates the underdogs and the power they can have to disrupt things or showing how regular people are affected.
I think the most disappointing thing about this whole arc is that this is humanity's best attempt to venture to the Dark Continent in a long time. The idea that this absolute miserable joke of a ship was intended to somehow survive a place as unforgiving as the Dark Continent is hilarious at best. It makes it seem like the idea of actually doing something as unthinkably difficult as seeking, let alone finding, Don Freecs seem like something that Togashi would in no way be capable of creating within his lifetime.
It actually similar to some humans exploring the deep place of the universe even though it's extremely risky since they want to feed their curiosity and believe that their exploration will bring something great here on Earth.
The thing is only Beyond and Kakin really want to go to the DC, the rest of the world was dragged into it quite suddenly after they couldn't stop the voyage. We even see how the med branch on the ship is severely understaffed. On top of that, most of the passengers aren't actually going to the Dark continent but unbeknownst to them a separate island as the majority of them are normal civilians. Amazing video i loved your analysis and it really reawaked my hunger for more upcoming chapters. Just a remark: At 09:25 you talk about Kurapika´s drive for revenge not yet being awakened. But that's not entirely true. While he doesn´t know about the Phantom Troupe being on board, he indeed knows about Tserriednich´s possession of his comrades´ eyes. That was his main motivation to join the zodiacs and go on the ship after all. So while searching for balance in the war professionally for the 14th prince. His revenge on the fourth is already his own driver the whole time.
It’s also interesting to see the parallels between the phantom troupe and Kurapika. Especially since in this arc both are keeping peace. Ik phinks, nobu, and feitan are only helping because they gain something, but still cool nonetheless.
oh my god i LOVE this video!!! you spelled out so clearly the themes that have been floating around in my head since i started reading, and brought up so many parallels i hadn't even considered. morena being a sort of foil to kurapika is something i totally did not see coming but it makes so much sense; kurapika is teaching people nen (about 20+ people i think, similar in size to morena's group) in order to force a stalemate and maintain balance. morena is giving power to her group in order to destroy balance and tear it all down. two seemingly similar means with entirely different intentions. the difference is, while morena is enabling the lower classes, the maligned and downtrodden, kurapika is enabling the people in power (the princes), giving them even more power. though unintentional, he did indirectly cause tserriednich's awakening, which poses so much danger that ironically enough, he may have created an even more dangerous situation than morena, despite his intentions to do the opposite!! god it's so good. the black whale as a microcosm of society and all its problems being pushed to a breaking point, the themes of greed and revenge both playing a part. drawing attention to post mortem nen being a metaphor for the consequences of revenge and destructive actions is so brilliant! i never even considered that. rambling aside, this was such a great video, got me really hyped for the series' return!!!
Oh my!!! 🤯 I've been waiting for an in-depth HXH analysis like this (for DC arc) !!! I wanna know if my own breakdown parallels those of the fandom. Yes!!! HERCULEAN LIKE!!! 💫👍🏼💫

11:22 I’m glad that you brought that. I think Togashi has already started to explore a little with that idea when it came to the two sisters Kacho and Fugestu. With both sisters trying to sacrifice themselves to save one another. However, Kacho has already died and Fugestu is starting to wear her self down a lot with her nen ability. In the end just like Grandline pointed it might be a Romeo and Juliet scenario where they both die.
An excellent video once again, really makes me wanna go back and read even the walls and walls of inner monologue. A bit more of a slow burn this time but i still really enjoyed the analysis, which again contains tons of literary context i failed to see even on my re-reads.
Yeah, Kurapika definitely knows that Tsseridnich has multiple scarlet eyes. It was the only reason he got involved with the Zodiacs/Kakin at all. Though the video still has a point. Kurapika assumed he'd be able to negotiate to obtain the eyes even without killing Tserridnich, but that was before he ever learned about the succession war, let alone became a key player in trying to preserve the balance of the ship. Coming face to face with his clans' eyes could cause him to act differently due to the new circumstances. Also, if the decapitated head that the 4th prince keeps in a jar really is Pairo, Kurapika's childhood best friend, then that would certainly cause a whole lot of trouble. Kurapiika would be blindsided by that.
