    Hey super party friends. Wanted to ADD one more bit of recent information for this video:
    You can TORCH your wood WAYYYYYY longer than I did in my video. On my newer beds, I actually torched it far longer and it scratched off just the same (and it probably did a better job forming a better barrier with longer burning!).
    So yea. Just wanted to add that. I burned SUUUUUPER thick boards (2 inches!) so you're not going to totally singe the thing if you do it for longer.
    Love you all and BEST of luck to ya! This technique is really awesome and helpful and makes your beds purdy. :)

    Traditionally, Japan used timber framing over masonry because they live on a convergent seismic plate, which causes severe earthquakes.

    Just sharing my experience with smaller torches than 500,000 BTU. They didn’t work well for wood burning. Took too long to burn a section so go with the size mentioned in this video.

      Thank you my friend! Great perspective to have. Yea. Powerful torches make it wayyyy easier

    Douglas fir is slightly rot resistant, and usually available around the same price as other framing lumber such as southern yellow pine or hemlock for. However, cypress wood on its own tends to be highly rot resistant, but much more expensive.

      Rad. Thanks Thomas. Yea. I used Hemlock just cause it's native (and wayyyy less expensive) where I live. But great note my friend and THANK YOU!

    Hey I just discovered this channel and your style is often. I hope you get this notification and come back to make more videos. About this video, have you done the burnt wood treatment before? Curious how many years it lasts because most videos and blogs I see just mention that it protects against deterioration.

    • @gardengraffiti
      @gardengraffiti  2 роки тому

      Do you. I just started doing it so I will have to get back to you on that. I think it also kind of depends on the wood you use. I used Hemlock but cedar would’ve been better. Also check it out. New video just posted!

    Why not linseed oil?

      Linseed is fine too. No rule against it. I just used raw Tung cause I had it.

    Do you need the oil? Also do you need to burn that dark or can you put a lighter burn and not sand off char?

    Hey sad to see you don’t do videos much more good info very clear and to be frank refreshing that the garden video wasn’t brought to me by a Christian homesteader with twelve children. (Not that it’s bad live your life just gets old)
