When we expressed fear at going through the cemetery, as children, our Mother would always say "The dead cannot hurt you, just be afraid of the living".
As a protestant, Assemblies of God, I know that ghosts are demons/fallen angels who try to fool people into believing our spirits can stay on earth after we die. Our spirits go to Heaven or hell when we die. That's it.

Father Casey, you have spoken against magic in coherent and cogent language a few times over the years. It might be worthwhile to devote an entire short video to WHY magic and attempts to use it are bad news-and also the difference between a ouija board, a grimoire, and Harry Potter.
If Harry Potter is un-Catholic as it depicts magic, then surely the Lord of the Rings would be un-Catholic for the same reason, only that the Lord of the Rings is widely acknowledge as one of the most Catholic fictional works ever written.
@@ccityplanner1217 you'll note I implied that Harry Potter is different from a grimoire. I hold that Harry Potter is an excellent primer on moral theology. I would pedantically further argue that The Lord of the Rings does not depict magic, as it is not a category that obtains within the schema that Tolkien outlines.
@@ccityplanner1217I raised my boys Catholic and they saw the Harry Potter movies and read the books. They had enough intelligence to discern it was just a fictional and fantasy movie and not real life. They attended Catholic school and adulting and they aren’t casting spells and don’t own wands. Lol. There’s things to keep them away from but this is a stretch.
My mother was Irish Catholic, and she saw ghosts. My grandfather died when she was 15, and she knew he had died before they got the call. Then a long while later, she felt somebody sitting on the end of her bed, thinking it was her dog, she opened her eyes and her dad was sitting there, she blinked and he was gone. I always asked her what did he look like? Did he look see-through like we imagine ghosts, she said no, he looked normal. So anyway, a lot of ghostly things happened, other people saw his figure and doors opened for people. Years later, when I was born my mum had a dream about him and he said he was sorry for how he treated everybody. And my mother woke up crying, she cried for the whole weekend she even went to the doctor about it, why she couldn't stop crying lol. I always think he lingered as a ghost because he knew he behaved badly to the family in life, and then was brave enough to face what he did and received spiritual cleansing when apologising in the dream. That is only one story, I have so many others of my mum experiencing dreams, ghostly things. When her sister died, she told my mum a week before that she had a dream three very very tall people were at the end of her bed, and she said 'are you my guardian angels' and they nodded, and then she asked them if she was going to die and they nodded. She died of a brain hemmorage. And before that, years before, the same aunty was in a coma and my mum dreamed she was goign to wake up, even though the priest had come by then. She did wake up and the preist said 'i never thought i'd live to see the living dead' lol, and my mums vision of her sister walking down the steps in her dream came true, even the wig and walking stick... and my aunty told my mum she was in desert place, loads of people lining up in white shawls, and my aunty pushed forward asking to be let in the gates, and a man said, 'not you it's not your time' and pushed her back, then she woke up, is that weird or what? my mum didnt ask for any of these gifts, and she became very sad when her other sister died and she experienced nothing ghostly other than two dreams... one time 2008, my mum was sick in hospital and dreamed of her two deceased sisters and they pushed a cake towards her in the dream. the next day the woman sharing the hospital room came in with the exact same cake. my mum didnt tell me this because she thought it would freak me out, but she told my older cousin because my mum was worried her sisters were coming to get her aka she was dying lol. luckily for me it wasnt her time yet, she passed in 2014. so what would the church make of those stories. my mum passed in 2014 I heard through the years that when somebody dies suddenly they can linger as they are still connected to the earthly realm. i think that could make sense.
I think the Catholics are right about purgatory and that to me would explain Ghosts...those who do not want to go 'higher' to Heaven or fear going elsewhere, or even just those who are as the bible puts it 'in love with the world' and want to stay in their comfort of Planet Earth... that's why you get stories of hauntings in old homes...maybe people just want to stay in their safetynet of their own little world. Maybe purgatory isn't just a place to purge your sin but also a state of mind after leaving the body...maybe it's in this earthly realm or just above it... that's why some of us have ghostly experiences, because those who have died linger between the two realms of afterlife and physical life...that's why people say they see a white tunnel of warmth in NDE's, they can also see their body laying lifeless and their room etc... even james randi the skeptic had an Out of Body experience and rose up to his ceiling and his cat looked up at him... but he denies it was anything but a dream lol... even when god gives him a glimpse of how wrong he was, he still denied! "ye of little faith!" i think perhaps people who are having NDE's or maybe those who die can go through the white light while some choose to linger around...It seems so according to stories.
I have a few athiest friends, once in a while they pick on religion....when they do this I at some point tell them " go sleep in a haunted house" . They cant cause they are afraid of ghosts ! This perplexs me.
Yeah, I agree. The way I see it if ghosts are real then there is definitely more to the physical world than atheism offers. Either way I don't know what ghosts could be exactly.
I am Catholic all my life (59yrs). I have experienced the paranormal in my parent's house, and definitely human spirits in my present house. I went to Catholic school in the 1970's, and we were not taught the faith very well at all. I cautiously confided in lady from the Legion of Mary what was going on, and she taught me the prayer of St. Michael. All the paranormal events stopped immediately. When I moved into my late Victorian house, after about 6 months, I began to be invaded. A visitor saw the apparitions of 3 or 4 children in the back bedroom. I heard a male voice call my name. I heard people and loud crashes in other parts of the house. I saw several ghosts (they looked like 3 dimensional shadows). Much more happened. My parish priest did not know how to deal with it, and he never visited my house. My Oma gave me blessed salt, and I did my own ad hoc blessing, or cleansing. Nothing happened downstairs. When I went up the stairs and reached the top, I felt strong energy. It was emotional and you could feel it. I continued with the blessing, and thankfully, 'it' or 'they' left and I had peace. About 3 years later, it started up again. My little chihuahua seemed to see it all the time and was very frightened and hid all the time. I decided to have a talk with it when I heard it in the corner of my bedroom. I said that it cannot stay in my house, told it to go to the light and not come back. I said my house belonged to Jesus. It worked and thank God very little has happened since then. I am a bit disappointed that I had to figure this out myself. BTW, my house was blessed by Fr. Joe R. when I moved in. And unlike ghost stories you read, I have no idea who they were or why they were here. Also, ghostly events would happen in broad daylight, to me, to visitors, even the neighbors were aware (Do you know you have ghosts?) They did too, i was told.
Well, from what it seems they went with prayers away, so maybe (and just maybe because I'm not sure. I didn't have much experience with this) they're spirits from purgatory. Someone in my family said she saw once a shadow. First she was afraid and prayed the rosary. The shadow left after that. Since then she prayes in every mass for the spirits in purgatory. If they're spirits from the purgatory, you can still pray for them in mass and offer masses for them (even if they're not at home anymore).
It's a counterfeit illusion by Satan. You are wishy washy in your Faith or you would not have these experiences. You are maybe subconsciously wanting this to happen so Satan steps in. The Bible teaches the dead do nothing.
In Asia, we have lots of Catholics sharing ghost stories during slumber parties. The military ones were exceptionally scary for those of us who are unfortunate enough to be born in places where we needed to be mandatorily conscripted. More so when we were separated from our families and stationed in some offshore camp. Edit to include a vivid personal experience: I have also experienced three demonic nuns pressing me down and chanting something while stopping my breathing during a sleep paralysis event decades before the movie came out so I couldn't have been influenced by that. Wasn't able to open my mouth and had to recite The Our Father in my mind and my breath slowly came back and they flew up to the ceiling and disappeared. Might be a dream and sleep apnea, but I remembered being fully awake through it all. The sequence passed and I caught my breath and sat up. Only then did I start perspiring.
Interesting. You mentioned "demonic nuns". What gave you the impression that they were demonic? Did they look like the stereotypical demon, as portrayed in film and TV? I am just curious.
@@alphacause Oh, this was in the 90s and I was quite young, there were very few shows that got in from the western world, US primarily, but the “nuns” looked nothing like them. Shows like the Wishmaster, the Blob, Gremlins, had quite an impact on the young mind but still nothing I can recognise from any of the shows I’ve watched. It’s perhaps an amalgamation of everything and my mind had to conjure up something during sleep paralysis. It just felt so vivid even after two decades.
In the St. Louis Archdiocese there is an office named Catholic Renewal Center. They get calls to investigate the presence of "lost souls." An example that Jane Guenther, the director shared, was a "ghost" in a house that was recently purchased. The previous owner was a person killed in Afghanistan. Documents pertaining to his military career mysteriously appeared on the threshold. A Mass was celebrated in the home. At the moment of consecration, Guenther heard the words, "Thank you." and the homeowner felt the oppression lifted. And I have a personal story. My father was 23 in 1943. He had two brothers away in the war. One night while he was asleep he woke up to see his brother, Walter, in his army uniform standing at the foot of his bed. Walter said, “I’m in trouble. I need you to pray for me.” My Dad got out of bed, knelt down and said an Our Father. A couple of nights later he saw Walter again. This time he was glowing and said, “I’m alright now.” About a week later, a telegram arrived from the government informing the family that Walter’s plane had gone down in the Mediterranean Sea. No survivors.
πνεῦμα (Pneuma) in ancient Greek means breath, wind, air, spirit, soul or consciousness. "Holy Spirit would have been a much better translation. The word used for 'ghost' in the gospels is "φάντασμα" (fantasma).
my comment here isn't really relevant to this specific video but the channel as a whole. having been raised catholic i have spent a lifetime dealing with peoples misconceptions about the church, what it teaches, what Catholics do and do not believe, etc etc etc. i really appreciate that this channel exists and is taking a very open and friendly approach to teaching the realities of the church.
Agreed! I was raised non-denominational Christian, and got the impression from the adults around me that Catholics were well-meaning but misguided. However, no one ever bothered to give me any specific reasons for this general distaste for Catholicism. This channel has been a huge eye-opener into a tiny sliver of the Catholic church, and helped me form my own opinions without relying on harmful stereotypes.
As a kid, maybe about 8, I saw a ghost, such as it was. A boy dressed in 1930s garb, carrying a box of apples. I saw him three days in a row, around 2 - 3am. I told my mum about him. Her very simple response was one of yours as listed. A soul from Purgatory whom God allowed to cross over just for a moment. My mum said to pray for him. I think it was a way of shutting down any child's wild imagination. As a very Catholic kid, pondering the religious life believe it or not, I accepted it without any further thought. As an adult who has studied theology, I think it's rather sad, that there are folks in purgatory whose names are no longer recalled on Earth enough to pray for them. Plus, whatever these things are, demons, imaginations, or real souls seeking prayer, maybe giving warning, praying for them will bring no harm.
Thank you for this message at this time of year. In my hometown I am a tour guide for a ghost and graveyard tour. Every once in a while we will be confronted on the streets by well meaning Christians who say we are supporting Satan or the Occult. I point out that we are merely entertainment and it is up to the listener to determine if the stories are real or make-believe. When I have someone ask if I believe in ghosts I tell them that I am smart enough to know that I don’t know everything and I have seen evidence both ways. In the end, I enjoy telling the stories and it usually puts a smile on people’s faces, so I hope I have made the world a better place for those people for at least the hour I have them.
My dad is terrified of ghosts because his aunt was into witchcraft and when he was younger she would do her witchcraft stuff around him and he seen somethings. For this reason if someone died in the house he refuses to sleep in the house.
Thanks Fr Casey, Saint (Padre) Pio is quoted as saying that 'just as much Souls from Purgatory as living pilgrims came to him for prayers.' (edit: forgot to put in 'Fr' before Casey)
I knew for years that Ouija boards are bad news! My mom bought an Ouija board just for fun when I and my brothers and sisters were children, but none of us took it seriously, assuming that it's just a game. It was given to me when I moved into my first apartment, but I threw it out while housecleaning. That's because I learned people actually try to communicate with spirits with it, and I learned that they could attract demons by trying to reach dead loved ones. If you miss deceased loved ones and try to reach them, don't do it, people! Just pray for their souls, and tell God you miss them.
I think you were wise to address this subject, because it seems like many Catholic engage with the occult practices to their great harm. So much so, they will no doubt, disregard your warning.
I've always considered Matthew Chap 14:26 "When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. “It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear."
I think it is very possible there are ghosts. I've never actually seen one. Furthermore, I had a friend pass away a few years ago, and for a while, I could feel her presence in my house. There was a lot of hostility coming from her. She had been staying with me while very ill, and I think she was angry that she had to leave and go into hospice. I got rid of all her things that were left, became they gave me the creeps. Also, a friend of hers took this really nice piece of cookware that she had, and he ended up getting rid of it because it gave him the creeps. And he does not believe in ghosts.
Spirits from the purgatory can be scary depending on the sins they commited while living, however, if that was the spirit of your friend from purgatory she´s asking you to pray for her so she could be released sooner. You must understand that a soul in hell has no way of getting out of hell, but a soul in purgatory may have permission from God to ask someone to pray for him/her in which case, praying to God for her will help her inmensely.
Ghosts are demons/fallen angels who try to fool people into believing our spirits can stay on earth after we die. Our spirits go to Heaven or hell when we die. That's it.
Hi Father Casey! Thanks for coming to Raleigh this past weekend, I saw a poster with your face on it and got really excited that you were gonna be here! I was really bummed when I found out I couldn’t make it to the event. I wanted to thank you for the big role you’ve played in coming back to Jesus and the Church. Peace be with you!
Jesus apparently believed in ghosts. When he appeared to his disciples after the Resurrection, he said, “Why do you look at me like you’re seeing a ghost? See I am flesh and bones and eat real food.” Paraphrasing but you get the drift.
In a separate channel, Armor of God, an exorcist says that hauntings may be a soul asking for your prayers. He encouraged us to test that by asking the ghost to (1) affirm his love for Jesus and longing for his mercy (demons won't do this), and (2) affirm if he is asking for prayers. The affirmation may be a knocks on the door or moving things in case of poltergeists.
I think the sensation of feeling the dead around us (when still close to their death) is the process of grieving. I felt it when my dad passed away during the pandemic. As a charismatic Christian I also believe that angels and demons show up sometimes, I.e. God allows us to see them for some reason. I've experienced this before. I'm not catholic, so don't know much about the purgatory or any possible connection between us and them. But I think your explanation made sense.
Purgatory stems from two logical ideas. First, the idea that nothing impure can enter Heaven. But how pure is "pure?" If a person is saved, but told a few white lies and never admitted it or apologized, are they truly pure? Surely they do not go to Hell because they are saved, but neither can they enter Heaven since they are not truly pure. So we have Purgatory, a place where the saved can be purified of all the smaller sins that can be forgiven and atoned for. Second, the idea that we are called to pray for the dead. Why bother? The dead in Heaven have no need of prayers, and no prayers can reach the damned. Who are we praying for? There must be a third place where such prayers would matter.
@@hayleybartek8643 don´t forget that while God is infinitely mercyful, he is also a God of justice. Whenever you are forgiven for your sins you also need to do reparations from those sins. Best example I´ve heard was that if a kid is playing and breaks a window from his neighbor house, he must go and apologize to his neighbor and make sure he doesn´t break any other window. However, the damage is already done, so what would be best is that once he apologizes, he pays for the window or at least go help to install the replacement. That is the reparation, and if you don´t make reparations from your sins while you´re alive, you will do them in purgatory. And, just like that kid´s father might very well go to the neighbor, once his son has apologized, and offer to pay for the window instead of his son, who might not have money himself, a living person can pray to God for another person in purgatory so his time there is shortened.
Purgatory exist alright when i offered my sufferings (I was in physical pain at the time) they gave back and I the pain went and I felt the firey prescence of the Lord also sometime when i pray for them they interceed purgatory is very real
I don’t really believe in them, but I do sometimes deal with things that are a bit creepy but tend to just act like a dad in a horror movie and act like nothing happened. It’s best not to spend time on it because if I do then I’m either finding nothing or something I don’t like at all
Fun video. Thanks. Agree w your bottom line. Be not afraid. “Requiring belief” seems like a contradiction. Guiding behavior yes. But belief is not (always) a matter of will.
Dear father Casey, Thank you for sharing about our faith in such a meaningful and kind way. I've felt with a renewed desire to come back knowing people like you, father Patrick And Tito are there for teaching us. I'm from Colombia - South América, of course I'm catholic.
A well done video. Mostly I agree with Tertullian and Augustine regarding ghosts. That being said the Witch of En Dor from 1 Samuel 28 is a different case than that. 1 Samuel 28 seems to state in this instance God is allowing the actual spirit of Samuel to come up from Abraham's Bosom, or Hades to tell Saul what his fate is going to be. To me it indicates that God can do what He wants to do. One of my favorite stories about ghosts, is Charles Dickens, "The Christmas Carol." Those would be a special type of Ghosts, to wake up the Scrooges of the world.
I keep an open mind about these topics, there is so much that we cannot observe with our limited senses. I have had several experiences myself as well. 3 months after my mother passed on, I was woken up at 3 AM by a windup music box playing in the living room down a long hallway. I got up and slowly walked down the hall and as I turned to look at it, it stopped. There was no way it can be wound up and not immediately play either. I knee it was my mom checking up on me. My mom promised to always look after me before she passed. ❤❤❤❤
“…St. Thomas himself, for many non-Franciscans the greatest theologian in history…” Ha! I love the subtle dig, in keeping with sacred tradition! 😂 thanks for the video. A very poignant topic for this time of year, and a beautiful exposition and exhortation 🙏🏼
YES. You had to go there eh Fr Casey!! I am still laughing about it after 3 days. The rest of the video is good, but that one liner is like a pearl of great price among lesser gems.
I understand that St Padre Pio was approach by the spirit of a fellow priest who died years prior: asking for his intersession. So, I believe that they can come from purgatory, looking for help. I pray for the souls in purgatory - as well as specific people who may, or may not, be there. I'll be happy if I help even one soul get out of purgatory into the Savior's arms.
Question Friar. On the Nicene Creed it was mentioned that God the Almighty Father "maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible" does it include Ghost? because we cannot physically see them but the Scriptures mention the usage of Ghost in describing supernatural beings like after the Resurrection of Jesus when He appeared on the apostles, they got scared in seeing a ghost. In the diary of St Faustina at St Padre Pio they mentioned that they were visited by souls from purgatory asking for prayers. And is there a distinction between Ghost and Soul? Because somehow we have the context that Ghost are Scary and Soul are a part of the Human spirit. Hoping for your Response Fra. Pace e Bene
Fr. Casey they do manifest to those who are sensitive/aware - my wife happens to be very sensitive & have experienced & still see them. Not joking father .
My cousin after her mother died kept going to mediums, my late mother eventually told her that mediums couldn't talk to the dead and she was wasting money.
If you've ever lived in a house that had a malevolent spirit hectoring the residents, you would know that, while you may not believe in ghosts/spirits, I can assure you that they believe in you. I was three years old and we had to move out.
I've watched too many stories on the Travel Channel to not at least think there's a possibility of those things. Did your family try to do a cleansing of the house or were you all just like "Nope, we're out of here!"
I lived in a house in Fiji where the majority of my fellow housemates believed it was haunted. They all regularly saw things like ghosts on the house. They even woke up screaming at night! I didn't believe and never saw or felt anything
@Murph_gaming "Cleansings" are pagan, and only make things worse! Take that as a truth, from a former newager! Such rituals call upon demons! A structure must be blessed, or even exorcised, before the demons leave. ALL malevalent spirits are demons.
Every-time Fr Casey Makes a video, it makes me happy. However tho, now I’m interested in like 10 things the church has no stand on, or no definitive answer. It could be anything, it doesn’t have to be major
The most plausible explanation comes from indications from Saint Padre Pio, who has related that on occasion spirits from Purgatory have begged him to say Mass for them.
I'd tell myself it was just my mind playing tricks on me, but there were two incidents where I was minding my own business, and it wasn't even Halloween season. Ghosts are real. It's just that you have to be in the right place to get spooked by them.
Me and my friend both saw a shadow next to our bed in Saint Augustine, the oldest US colony in America. It was very strange. Seems if they exist it's usually because they had a major problem before they died and get stuck. I have had many spiritual experiences that I can't rule anything out.
I ain't afraid of no ghost. But I do believe in them. I am just not scared because regardless of what they are, I'm more interested in serving God than indulging morbid curiosity. The problem with things like medians and Ouiji boards is that to use them seriously expecting a result, you must have faith in them. Faith in God protects us from evil, but if we put that faith elsewhere, we weaken that defense. It doesn't matter if the alternative is totally powerless we are weakening out defense again things that DO exist, like demons. So "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
Psalms 115:17 "The dead do not Praise the Lord, nor do any that go down into silence..." 2 Corinth 11: 14-15 " And no wonder! Even satan disguises himself as an angel of light..." 15: "So it is not strange even if his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness..."
Saint Thomas Aquinas didn't write the supplement of the Summa Theologiae: as the third part of the work was not finished by the time of his death, his followers wrote the supplement. Anyways, love your videos, keep up the good work!
If a maleficent ghost goes into the world & causes something bad to happen, will they be held to account on Doomsday? If so, can a ghost then go to confession? What shall a priest do if a ghost appears to him asking for shrift? If so, can he then shrive sins the ghost had committed prior to death?
Going to mediums, psychics, card readers, etc., and living your life by what they say is extremely dangerous, I agree, though, I have in the past gone to a psychic for the heck of it to hear what she had to say. Interestingly, she mentioned a problem I was having with a door. I didn't know what she was getting at. She said she couldn't be any more specific. Now I should mention that I went with my cousin, and he drove. When he dropped me off at my house, we agreed to go to dinner and that I would drive. When I went to go to my car, naturally, I tried to enter by the driver's side. Wasn't going to happen as the door was damaged by an accident that happened only the day before going to the psychic. I had forgotten about that. How could she have known? Crazy, huh?
I’ve a fourth theory on ghosts, especially those that don’t seem malevolent, but have rather decided to stick around to either guard a place or as a warning. Humans are given free will by the Holy Spirit, so it stands to ‘reason’ that sometimes when a person dies, especially if they had a strong sense of duty in life, they may decide to stick around or ‘cross between worlds’ instead of completely crossing over, and continue watching over something or someone. There are a lot of stories of intelligent (that is ‘interactive’) of ghosts of servicemen keeping an eye on various military forts or locations.
I personally believe the dead can come to us in dreams or in signs under the authority of the Holy Spirit. My mother came to me in a dream but only her voice for she was behind a shroud. Her words were for me to know God's great love for me. This was during a time in my life I was struggling. Having said that, I believe most ghost and spirit encounters are evil entities looking to deceive, confuse and ultimately destroy.
Are there ghosts? Keep your eyes on Christ Is Limbo a thing? Keep your eyes on Christ What do you think of Pope Francis (or any other pope)? Keep your eyes on Christ Novus Ordo vs. TLM? Keep your eyes on Christ Is Bette Midler a witch IRL? Keep your eyes on Christ Many, many distractions, but first seek holiness by looking to Christ. Always the best advice
Have you ever examined water dowsing? It's not huge, but there is a group, but there's still individuals that can do it. Probably rods and such amplify mental abilities we had long ago.
I've enjoyed your videos here and in "Upon Friar Review". Concerning ghosts/spirits, where do you think things like spirit boxes, emf readings, and call/response audio recordings fall? Essentially, should/can we, as Christians, use technology as a medium to communicate with spirits/ghosts?
Someone I know was working in,an,old hospital late night, and saw,a,nurse dressed in,garb,of flue of 1918 she looked tired, and worried he saw right through her and she just disappeared
I have long held that the supernatural only have power if I give it to them and therefore disbelief, skepticism, and faith in the protection of the Lord are all the strongest defense
I grew up in a haunted house and i saw ghosts has a child. I believe in ghost im open minded i am not scared of ghosts or demons. I learn don't use the board. I know their is evil ghosts abd demons but i also know their are good ghosts. Yes good ghosts i believe that.
I'm a former practicing Buddhist, I'd encourage anyone to look at their concept of Ghosts, and the hungry nature of them. I'm learning about Catholicism, and to my Noob mind I feel it aligns with the ideas of the Souls too stubborn to move past Purgatory, for they value more the completion of their missions on Earth (or feuds) than they do the pushing beyond to Heaven. If I'm talking out my rear please tell me, as I say I'm learning - thanks :)
No, Purgatory is a kind of punishment, the punishment is that you lose heaven for a certain length of time, when you could have been there immediately after death. But you defrauded your own self by your own free will by sinning.
I am a Christian because i saw such a thing. I petered out on the rabit hole and am satisfied in trusting the Lord. But i saw, and now i know. We are not alone. And Christ is the *only* way out
I think it would have been worthwhile to discuss the very real, and rational concept of mental illness. You don't have to experience psychosis like I have to experience something that comes across ghostly or seemingly supernaturally unsettling. Severe anxiety, stress, snd cultural concepts alone are sufficient to hsve some strange experiences. Psychosis is definitely more dramatic. I've experienced some weird stuff and it's left me with, of all things, a fear of the moon.
Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 "There is hope for whoever is among the living, for a live dog is better off than a dead lion, for the living know that they shall die but the dead know nothing at all, nor have they any more reward for all memory of them is forgotten, for they no longer have any more share in what done under the sun for all memory of them is forgotten, also their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished."
excuse me. since we believe in demons (a supernatural) doesnt it make sense that the other supernaturals also exist? like ghosts, spirits, haunted houses etc
When we expressed fear at going through the cemetery, as children, our Mother would always say "The dead cannot hurt you, just be afraid of the living".
And God didn't give you the spirit of fear, but of love power and peace of mind.
Wise advice.
So nice you have a brave mom she made you right i always was told to fear so I still have some fear 😲 of the dark places
I’ve told my son the same.

She did wake up and the preist said 'i never thought i'd live to see the living dead' lol, and my mums vision of her sister walking down the steps in her dream came true, even the wig and walking stick... and my aunty told my mum she was in desert place, loads of people lining up in white shawls, and my aunty pushed forward asking to be let in the gates, and a man said, 'not you it's not your time' and pushed her back, then she woke up, is that weird or what? my mum didnt ask for any of these gifts, and she became very sad when her other sister died and she experienced nothing ghostly other than two dreams...
one time 2008, my mum was sick in hospital and dreamed of her two deceased sisters and they pushed a cake towards her in the dream. the next day the woman sharing the hospital room came in with the exact same cake. my mum didnt tell me this because she thought it would freak me out, but she told my older cousin because my mum was worried her sisters were coming to get her aka she was dying lol. luckily for me it wasnt her time yet, she passed in 2014.
so what would the church make of those stories. my mum passed in 2014
I heard through the years that when somebody dies suddenly they can linger as they are still connected to the earthly realm. i think that could make sense.
"ye of little faith!"
i think perhaps people who are having NDE's or maybe those who die can go through the white light while some choose to linger around...It seems so according to stories.
If I were hallucinating such things, I would have gone to the doctor...
In Asia, we have lots of Catholics sharing ghost stories during slumber parties. The military ones were exceptionally scary for those of us who are unfortunate enough to be born in places where we needed to be mandatorily conscripted. More so when we were separated from our families and stationed in some offshore camp.
Edit to include a vivid personal experience:
I have also experienced three demonic nuns pressing me down and chanting something while stopping my breathing during a sleep paralysis event decades before the movie came out so I couldn't have been influenced by that.
Wow!

That was a spiritual attack
This time he was glowing and said, “I’m alright now.”
About a week later, a telegram arrived from the government informing the family that Walter’s plane had gone down in the Mediterranean Sea. No survivors.
Well we believe in the Holy Ghost

my comment here isn't really relevant to this specific video but the channel as a whole. having been raised catholic i have spent a lifetime dealing with peoples misconceptions about the church, what it teaches, what Catholics do and do not believe, etc etc etc. i really appreciate that this channel exists and is taking a very open and friendly approach to teaching the realities of the church.
TL;DR: Some do, some don’t, but either way, we ain’t scared of no ghosts.
Bustin' makes us feel good, nonetheless.
Wow yeah. Souls in Purgatory with no-one to pray for them. I've never really considered their position before.
I went on a ghost tour in Scotland. It was really fun. I enjoyed the stories

In Lazarus and the rich man Abraham was talking about going from heaven where Abraham is to hell where the rich man went.
Those are not your dead relatives but demonic entities masquerading as them to fool you.
And most definitely, keep focused on JESUS, my LORD, SAVIOR, and FIREMAN (he puts out the fires in my life).
It was great to meet you in person at Raleigh NC the other weekend.
@@richardmh1987 I haven't felt her presence for maybe 2 years now, but I will pray for her.
Offer mass for them
Ghosts are demons/fallen angels who try to fool people into believing our spirits can stay on earth after we die.
That could just be a reference to beliefs about ghosts at that time. You can talk about something without believing in it.
Does my mom’s apple crisp count as real magic?
I don’t really believe in them, but I do sometimes deal with things that are a bit creepy but tend to just act like a dad in a horror movie and act like nothing happened. It’s best not to spend time on it because if I do then I’m either finding nothing or something I don’t like at all
Fun video. Thanks. Agree w your bottom line. Be not afraid.
“Requiring belief” seems like a contradiction. Guiding behavior yes. But belief is not (always) a matter of will.
Dear Fr, thank you for bringing up this topic. It is timely and so easy. Wishing you good joy from Singapore 🇸🇬
Some mystics say ghosts are in souls in purgatory. I think they only appear when they need you to pray for them, like a desperate call.
The Bible teaches against mystics. And also teaches the dead do nothing.
I love your balanced approach.
Great topic for this time of year! I love these sorts of history lessons that we don't generally get in school.
Best explanation I've found on the topic. Many other Church channels tend to weave and duck or get lost in the historicity.
Another great video Fr Casey.
Dear father Casey,
Thank you for sharing about our faith in such a meaningful and kind way.
I witness too many ghost in my past life, and i witness as a kid how the ouija board shook the entire house.
Thank you for a clear and insightful video!
This reminds me of a documentary I"ve seen "Purgatory ". This is why I pray and love the rosary.

YES. You had to go there eh Fr Casey!! I am still laughing about it after 3 days. The rest of the video is good, but that one liner is like a pearl of great price among lesser gems.
I had heard that true ghosts (not to be confused with demons) are souls in Purgatory and we are to pray for them so that they may get to Heaven.
Even St Faustina was also visited by a sister from purgatory, asking for her prayers
This is a wonderful video!
A very sensible and down-to-earth talk about the topic!
Pace e Bene

"Cleansings" are pagan, and only make things worse! Take that as a truth, from a former newager! Such rituals call upon demons! A structure must be blessed, or even exorcised, before the demons leave. ALL malevalent spirits are demons.

I thought I saw a ghost, but heavy usage of mind altering alcohol was involved.
I would like to see you and Fr. Patrick touch on the Warren’s.
We are also seriously offending God by playing with Ouija Boards, etc or going to Mediums. The Bible warns us against Mediums.
Psalms 115:17 "The dead do not Praise the Lord, nor do any that go down into silence..."
2 Corinth 11: 14-15 " And no wonder! Even satan disguises himself as an angel of light..."
15: "So it is not strange even if his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness..."
Saint Thomas Aquinas didn't write the supplement of the Summa Theologiae: as the third part of the work was not finished by the time of his death, his followers wrote the supplement. Anyways, love your videos, keep up the good work!
Very interesting...as Always thank you very much God bless
If a maleficent ghost goes into the world & causes something bad to happen, will they be held to account on Doomsday?
If so, can a ghost then go to confession? What shall a priest do if a ghost appears to him asking for shrift?
If so, can he then shrive sins the ghost had committed prior to death?
This "fast and loose"approach to doctrine really leads to all kinds of theological holes

Don’t forget about the many apparitions of Mary and the saints
Crazy, huh?
You should make a video about halloween and all the satanic rituals that take place in that night. We must repair the offences with prayer.
Can you make a vid abut NDEs?
Are they recognized by the Church

Casper is the friendly ghost! 😂😂😂
I am a Christian because i saw such a thing. I petered out on the rabit hole and am satisfied in trusting the Lord. But i saw, and now i know. We are not alone. And Christ is the *only* way out
What about the Paraclete? I always do the Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Ghost...
The Paraclete is the Holy Spirit, YHWH, God himself, not a random spirit of a dead person.
Ghosts are mentioned in the Bible!
Excellent video. Definitely our loved ones do come to us.
Definitely seeking out the occult , you will get a demon
Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 "There is hope for whoever is among the living, for a live dog is better off than a dead lion, for the living know that they shall die but the dead know nothing at all, nor have they any more reward for all memory of them is forgotten, for they no longer have any more share in what done under the sun for all memory of them is forgotten, also their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished."
Interesting video. You don't hear much instruction on this matter, except instruction to stay the heck away.
excuse me. since we believe in demons (a supernatural) doesnt it make sense that the other supernaturals also exist? like ghosts, spirits, haunted houses etc
