I'm just starting out in coin magic and this is by far the best chanelle for it. Keep up the good work Rick, looking forward to leaning everything you have to teach.
Thank you for your generous and very clear explanation of methods, and giving the best advice on books. Your suggestions have improved my skills with coins and has inspired me to practice daily.
This is brilliant. So glad I found your channel. I just got into card magic/sleights last year and practice a couple hours after work every day. I decided I wanted to get into coin magic last week. Your teaching is just amazing. Thank you!! And I just ordered Bobo's Modern Coin Magic !
45 years ago at the age of 10, Bobo's wasn't an easy read for me. I was only able to learn the basics. Your explanations are so understandable clear. I have fallen in love with coin magic all over again. Thanks Rick
As a relative newbie to coin magic who has invested considerable resources into DVDs and books from most of the masters of the discipline...it's refreshing to come back to Rick's tutorial and realize one doesn't need fifteen variations of the Retention Vanish. Pick one. Study what makes the technique effective and magical. Practice it. Rick's vanishes in this video are all many coin magicians need unless one is in the business of fooling professional magicians. Thanks, Rick.
The Hikaru retention or Danny' goldsmith's DG retention are what I highly recommend. Seeing those vanish's are what got me into coin magic in the first place.
This was AWESOME. Loved the last vanish. Been using something like that but never new where it was from or who I saw do it! Never heard of the FLOPPERINO but I love the name!
I use all of those moves except for the retention vanish. The third technique is the one that I use the most. I found it so convincing. Thanks for the video 👏🏻
Great video!! I've learned that side french drop from Gary Ouellet. I don't know if this is originally from him but he describes the move in his lecture notes.
Soooo smooth! It's so great when even as I know what you're doing it still looks magical. If you haven't already, maybe at some point could you consider a tutorial on switches? As in switching out a coin from pencil thru quarter or something akin to that. Thank you for your teaching!
If you dont do it already, try the de manche change, I learned it from the amateur magician's handbook. It's just a fast almost imperceptible switch..! I use it for any kind of switch whether switching out a signed coin then switching it back in later or for pencil through quarter or anything similar. I'm no professional understand, just use these on my friends and family and maybe the odd small show. Point is, I've never been caught with this switch. 😉
This is so cool ❤ Wouldn't be interesting if the breast pocket helped during the "natural gestures" to achieve a completely clean vanish? Just thought of it and figured I'd share it with you all. Amazing video Rick 🙌
Thanks for the amazing videos! Your channel has been a bright spot in an absolutely bizarre 2020. I've got a two part question for you: 1) What would be the contents of a coin purse that could handle ~90% of coin routines? 2) If the above answer includes any non-circulating currency (gaffs, Chinese coins, etc.), can you recommend manufacturers of these coins that provide reasonable quality products that are budget friendly.
Interesting question, and that's something I tried to solve years ago! I finally found an answer after studying a Geoff Latta routine in "Coin Magic" by Richard Kaufman. The routine is CopSilBrass and with these coins I can do 90% of all coin magic. I always carry this set with me. You need a silver coin, a copper coin, a chinese coin, and a copper/silver coin. All the coins are normal, you just need to find a copper/silver coin, which are actually very inexpensive.
I just thought to list what you can do off the top of my head: A one coin routine A spellbound routine A copper silver transposition in the spectators hand Presto Chango from Bobo's (a great trick) Coins Across Coins through table Copper silver brass transpositon Hanging coins Table Hopper's Trio by Curtis Kam (awesome routine) Okito box stuff Elbow, Knee, and Neck from Daryl Martinez And many more I can't think of right now. And the cool part is the routines with multiple coins, like coins across, look even better because you're using 3 different coins.
Great video. Love the subtleties of that last French drop in motion. I have a question for you. I’ve been doing a lot of coin practice as I stroll throughout my day. Dropping my silver coins happens more often then I’d like and I’ve noticed little dents on my coins. Do you have any advice in coin care? Silver coins are just heavier which is great but don’t have that aesthetic appeal after dropped too much. Any advice would be appreciated. Keep it up. Love the info.
Hi Rick! I know English very badly. But still I try to learn from your lessons! Please show more on technique and not on theory!)) Thanks a lot for your work! «Большое спасибо за вашу работу.» Big greetings from Russia!)) Do you have the ability to make Russian subtitles?
Experiment with it. I think the most convincing part of the toss technique is the conditioning of the audience beforehand. So, before you do the move, just give it a couple of "hops" in the hand right before you fake it to the other hand.
Awesome video like always Rick. Enjoy the details of everything. What is your thought in doing the finger palm put/toss but also using the thumb to hold the coin so that your other fingers can open up a little? Just a curious. Maybe the thumb hiding is not natural. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that.
Finger palm is more direct and actually easier. By going to thumb palm you're adding an extra movement just to get the coin into palm. Plus finger palm actually looks like the real action of dumping/tossing the coin into the other hand. Remember...economy of motion.
@@RickHolcombe thanks Rick. I kinda already knew the answer to my question I was just wanting to get your input because I was split both ways. Now I agree and it makes perfect sense to eleminate the thumb and just do it like a tossing motion. Thanks man I appreciate it a lot. Glad you can help me man with my coin magic dilemmas....lol. Your channel is a very needed channel for coin magicians. Thanks for your help man 😁👍
I think this is the best coin magic tutorial channel ive ever seen on youtube. Thanks for this sir.😊

Another awesome video! Thanks for all the great tips
So many great ideas here! For a casual put vanish I'm still totally in love with Jeremiah Zuo's "The Drop" from Institutes of a Coin Magic Fan.
Excellent excellent excellent material. All the extra tips are so helpful. Thank you for the thoughtful details.

Sooo nice! This is the best coin magic Channel out there! When will there be an episode on false transfers?
Also coin production maybe?
Clean as always!

Experiment with it. I think the most convincing part of the toss technique is the conditioning of the audience beforehand. So, before you do the move, just give it a couple of "hops" in the hand right before you fake it to the other hand.

Why you stop filming videos and tutorials?
Got too busy
Where is russian Subtitles?)
You smack your thumb with a corn or what hahaha
I've seen copperfield do that classic vanish a lot, and it looks cringe every time. So unnatural looking.
