i am still astonished how well the finnish m05 works quiet everywhere. it's not like ireland (or in my case: switzerland) would have the same flora as finnland - though it being similar, the differences are there, yet the camo does work perfectly!
Is it the dot style camo? Flecktarn works great too
@@RedBranchBushcraft flecktarn is german. nobody likes the germans. ;) the m05 is the swedish "digital camo" - aside marpat the only one that actually works
And cadpat
@@RedBranchBushcraft thought justine trudeau forced them all to wear pink now? (but yeah, cadpat is some serious camo, too - based on marpat, so no wonder ;)
@michaelkeller5008 I think it's the other way round , marphat is based on cadpat which is based on flecktarn
Would love a plain olive drab with no Velcro patch sections on the arms
There's something similar on their website and have a Google at the Austrian alpine gore Tex jacket
It's on my list to get ... it's a long list, and funding isn't there yet, but it's on it !
I have a list like that
A problem with these harder shell jackets is that they don't compact-down well. So if you get too hot on a walk at some point, and you need to take it off, it's an utter pain in the ass trying to store it somewhere. For this reason I avoid harder outer shells. Bloody sheep all over the place have destroyed the land. Zero tree regeneration is possible.
This is ok if you roll it up
Sticking close to dad like a good boy Bruno. No stick 😅
Lol, he had one but dropped it half way up
It would be awesome if one of these days you were to go over to Finland for one of the Varusteleka events.
I think they have a plain one on the website
I wasn't really sure about the jacket but between the first video and the second video, I'm sold
It's great jacket
I think there is a link in the description
Nice review ! Do you like this one better then the Bearskin ?
Yes, but it's not a fair comparison, two very different pieces of gear , this is a high end gore Tex style jacket , the bear skin isn't
In some ways the bearskin is a more practical jacket, a wear every day thing , this is for crap weather when you have no choice but to be out in it
Where are these hills you walked through @RedBranchBushcraft ? The area looks lovely, even in that weather.
This is a mountain called slieve Gullion in County Armagh, a great spot, I do a lot of wild camping on the lower sections
@@RedBranchBushcraft Looks a great spot 👌🏻Thanks
@adamdobner1910 it's really nice
Stihl frosty.
Good man Bud
Great review. If I have one criticism of Varusteleka is they slap big Velcro patches on all their jackets. I wish they had the Velcro as an option. I cut the patches off my woolshell jacket, but I would hate to do that on the jacket you tested for fear of wrecking the waterproof element of the jacket.
Yes, I'm with you on that one , I think on newer ones the velcro is smaller
@@RedBranchBushcraft next time you speak with them maybe you could mention it.
@edpikestone6800 I'll pass it on
Sounds good.
Thanks for that test
My pleasure
I've never heard of the coat company before, but if it passes The Bruno test, I'm sold. But my snugpac is hard to beat as a poncho.
Bruno what do you say? Woof? I'm in Canada's rainforest here in British Columbia, rain is 1489 mm over 193 Days!
feels like here , been raining since july last year
