It's a chinese team making a game based on Chinese folklore/ideologies, and Luke keeps going to Japanese, and appears to not listen.
Being a random white dude in the midwest isnt an excuse because im a white dude in WI and can tell the dofference between Chinese, and Japanese art, language, etc.
Please Luke, just read a little more so you dont look so silly.
They answered all of his questions and misconceptions during the interview. He made a video about something he didn’t listen to.
I now understand why game devs include so much hand holding for UA-camrs and streamers because they don’t listen or pay attention.
Very bad. Shame because has done some good stuff.
This just proves something I brought up to a friend of mine. The market is simply over saturated with Japanese content to the point that people can’t even perceive the idea of a piece of Chinese/korean entertainment existing. So many great Chinese games are in the works and the industry needs it, phantom blade, lost soul aside, project perceiver, and many more. It’s even refreshing to hear Chinese dialogue in a video game. Can’t wait for these games to come out.
I don't know where you're getting the Japanese theme from. Nothing in the trailer is remotely Japanese. The weapons, architecture, and style point toward Chinese.

@TheJeffI ill ignore your last sentence but yeah i know and a byproduct of a limited reach in western audiences causes ignorance within that audience. was just a bit confused when he still thought it was a japanese game even after he knew the devs were chinese.

It’s nothing like Ghost of Tsushima and I think the success or failure of Stellar Blade and how good that game turns out will be a good way to predict how this game will be. These Chinese and Korean devs are making more games but have yet to see any of them really hit yet. This year we have stellar blade, Wukong, and this game. But if it’s actually as good as it looks then this could be goty.

I know Japanese and Chinese are all Asians, but there is actually huge difference in terms of the animations for wuxia style and Samurai style games. I would have thought for someone play enough games with Katana involved, Nioh, Onimusha, GOT, trek to yomi and Sekiro...etc he would have noticed the difference.

It’s because it doesn’t matter and doesn’t make the game any better or worse to know or realize what culture it’s from. To most people, if they don’t know from the beginning, they aren’t going to be paying attention to any cultural aspects of the game. They are just going to play it and see if the game has a good story, gameplay, graphics, animations, music, etc.
This made me feel the same way I did when Black Myth Wukong was shown off and it looked to good to be true. Until people get hands on and actually play you gotta be careful.

@@jremigio24 Except Wukong never looked fake. This game has obviously doctored animations and most stuff shown is definitely not player driven. You can clearly see one of them when the character hides behind a pillar. Looks just like a mobile game add where the camera snaps to the CGI character to fake gameplay.
That's completely different. Wukong looked like you were controlling the actions. Did a lot of it seem weird? Yes but this just looks like the game is playing itself and you're watching a movie in third person. Doesn't look like a game.

I don’t want it to be a ghost of Tsushima 2 kind of thing. I want it to be some crazy looking dark edgy ass sword game that has fluid combat and insane visuals with a cool story to match. Like Tsushima is cooking and doing its own thing with the insane colors and flash but this looks like it’s carving it’s own path. While I’m not a souls like fan normally but if this game turns into that with super fluid combat then that will definitely get me interested because it’s always just been the style of those souls games combat that turns me away from them so something faster is exactly what I’m looking for.

Godzilla minus one is titled that way because the Japanese were at a state of loss after dealing with USA, They couldn't be at a lower point. Feeling like they were already starting over from ground zero guess what came next from that loss they took from the US...GODFUCKINZILLA. What makes it worse is that its the USA's doing that caused Godzilla to evolve in that movie. So since they took two Ls back to back they were at an even lower point than before hence the title minus one. It's kinda fitting and not just a random number thing at least in this instance.

That combat seen in the trailer looks waaay too good, hopefully they deliver but it’s hard to fully expect it
In some games, once one enemy sees you, all enemies "see" you even if they never knew your position on the map. I think they are saying you can lose agro, or eliminate the enemies that actually saw you, then go stealth again. Maybe enemies will search around your last known position. Its clear there's a full on stealth mechanic,then live combat, and the are just making a distinction between the two combat types

He expressed, quite blatantly, that the phrasing of the IGN dude was the issue. He expressed no confusion about the idea of "stealth".

It seems fast paced kind of like DMC but I have a feeling itll feel a little like the naruto games (simple but flashy) or like dynasty warriors but more flashy. I hope it turns out well as the time period is very interesting and as a history nerd I like when different settings are explored in some way lol

Along side Korea it’s a massive market for customers and dev talent. Also Microsoft won’t be buying so many studios there, so more choice for Sony I guess 😂

You being from Colorado is pretty cool because I do too! Also what you said is accurate I lived in the dorms with a lot of foreign exchange students it was the very same way. Unfortunately when we played basketball they just stayed with themselves.. pretty cool kids and they had nice drip. Finally Also it’s very inspiring knowing that you’re pretty successful and a UA-camr from here! Keep it up fam!

This games gameplay looks insane next level stuff the way you dodge in between attacks looks so sick and unlike anything I've seen from other games. And the clip where you're deflecting multiple enemy attacks all at once is different. I wonder how it will feel but if it feels nice like Sekiro combat I can see this game becoming one of my all time favorites I love the style of it already.
I don't see how having a timer and limiting the players time with the game making them rush thru it is a good thing?
if they get the combat right for this game, this will be the definitive game I look to whenever I see a new anime action rpg, cause the parrying is so flashy that it is baffling we are only just now finally getting a game that has sick ass looking combat, with parrying and deflecting that complements it as well

I give this game about a 5% chance to be as good on release as it looks in the trailer. That being said, god I hope it’s actually as good as it looks in the trailer.

To everyone ripping on Luke for his supposed arrogance by not recognising this was a Chinese game. I think this conclusion is overblown.
I dont think Luke ignored the developer's comments. He initially thought it was Japanese, partially corrected himself at 9:15 when he learned that the developers were Chinese, (but still thinking the game was Japanese), but never called it a Japanese game or a Japanese setting game past 12:07 when the developer mentioned that it was set in China.
You know this doesnt have an artistic bone in his body when he said tsushimas photorealism had a better artstyle than phantom blades easyern gothic fusion. 😂
I love GoT but there’s no way its art style can stand next to Phantom Blade. The dark, gritty, steampunk-ish aesthetic mixed with the traditional depiction of Chinese culture, is so awesome. Hell, just seeing a Chinese game period is refreshing. Not enough non Japanese games out there representing Asia.
Here people just accept a Film-movie-trailer of kojima without questions about gameplay, but if they are chinese or etc, wow, they need be transparent for yesterday! LOL

Anyone who thinks GOT had a better visual style than this needs new glasses. The visual standout for GOT was the foliage (which doesnt get spoken about enough), it made that game, without it most of the game would look pretty generic albeit still very good. GOT is very, very pretty I agree but it's still down the middle samurai stuff.
This game had clearly taken a colour treatment out of the Dark Souls playbook, slightly desaturated, creative use of chromatic aberration and crushing the dynamic range around the shadows so they pool in a more artistic way. The designs of the characters so far are more unique than GOT and give the game its own look. Environments are also more stark and wretched.
Seeing the comments is hilarious, it’s actually very important not to confuse Japan and China. Even the devs in the interview have Chinese names, they mention Beijing!!! It’s actually very offensive and ignorant to think anything Asian is Japanese. It shows a complete lack of knowledge and respect. Come to Japan and call them Chinese, go to China and call them Japanese…..good luck.
This is important because you’re not listening to the devs at all. There’s a massive difference between Samurai and Kung-Fu (Wuxia). Only ignorant people think it’s all the same.
The devs answered Luke’s question about it being in fantasy China….complete ignorance!
Culture in Thailand is even more different still and I would love to see some fighting game with their styles and mythology.
This game is a risk, and it’s great PlayStation is taking a risk on it. I hope it does end up being decent. China and Korea are going to be massive markets in the future for both gamers and developers.
This game is clearly not japanese in any way. I'm just some black dude, so I'm not the expert but your constant need to call out all the "Japanese" themes or choices makes the video hard to watch.
