Our friend took Doug (the guy...) aside and said "I just saw a great movie. Let's kidnap Barb and get her over to the theater." The dedication of the actors, especially Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin, really shines through in the final product. And hearing about Andre the Giant's gentle personality despite his imposing stature adds another layer of appreciation for the film. Truly a timeless classic!
I stopped counting at 117 times. My sister threw a copy of the book at me in High School saying it sucked but I'd probably like it. I did in fact like it, and consider the movie an utter masterpicd.
My partner & I inadvertently traumatized a Taco Bell cashier with the full line of, "I'm not a witch, I'm your wife, and after what I just heard I'm not sure I want to be THAT anymore!" Apparently the poor girl hadn't seen the movie and thought she was seeing a divorce brewing before her very eyes. Took a bit of time for us to explain it to her.
I think I've seen the movie on VHS at least 126 1/2 times. The 1/2 because the tape SNAPPED in the middle of watching! Right at the miracle max scene! We knew the film so well we acted out the rest of the scene without a hitch and laughed through it the whole time. I had to play Westley because I was the youngest and everyone else wanted to have lines! My family also quotes this movie incessantly... Whenever someone leaves the house to do something we say "have fun storming the castle!"
VHS? You could have sticky-taped it back together! You'd have to have taped up both sides of the magnetic strip, but that would be enough to hold it for another 60 viewings! You might notice some tracking issues where the magnetic strip is stretched (before it snapped) but that's part of the -frustration- errm 'Joy' of VHS...
My Husband, son, and I each race small one-design sailboats (single person) on the Ohio River. Our favorite quote, for MANY years, was the line Inigo uses on the getaway ship - - -"I wonder if he is using the same wind we are using?" Classic sailing jargon and completely true!
I lost count the times I've watched this movie a long time ago. To this day I still wave and say "Have Fun Storming the Castle". For some reason I still get a tear when Mandy says his famous line, as I just rubbed one after watching this. I also hate when the movie ends. Why can't life be so simple and pure? Inconceivable (not used correctly)
I watched it three times when it was first released in movie theaters. In nearly empty theaters. I tried to get my family to go see it, but they wouldn't. I rented it once it was out on VHS and introduced it to my family. I have watched it countless times and everyone I have introduced it to loved it, but especially initially there was a lot of resistance to watching it. So wonderful.
I popped that line at the wedding rehearsal of a friend. I heard the bride roaring with laughter from her hidden vantage in the 2nd story sound booth. Even the preacher was laughing. The groom said, I knew one of you was going to say it, I should have known It'd be YOU."
The Princess Bride is in the TOP TEN of my most favorite movies ever. I have hard copies of it 2 ways plus digital and watch it at least once every 3 months on avg since it was released. I have No Idea how many times that would make but I'm sure it is MANY! I LOVE IT. A movie couldn't get much better that this! 💯🥰🤗💕

It’s in my top 10 movies list too. I enjoy it so much every time I see it - I’ve lost count - and I still spot new details I didn’t notice before. Another of my top 10 movies is Galaxy Quest. Interesting that both of these favorites are funny in the best way.
I have no idea how many times I've seen the movie, but it must be at least 20 times for the full movie. The movie is entertainment "comfort food". Like a warm blanket and a cup of hot cocoa while sitting by the fireplace on a cool evening. A timeless story with fantasy, love, action, humor, redemption, mystery, suspense. Reiner did a great job directing. It's clear the actors loved their characters and poured their heart and soul into their performances. The cinematography is gorgeous. The editing could be a master-class, with the pacing being near perfect. Wrap it all up in the beautiful soundtrack by Mark Knopfler. What's not to love about the movie?
I've seen this movie at least 30 times. I loved it when it first came out, and love it even more when I watch it with my daughter. She's almost 16 now, and loves it as much as I do.
The vhs tape died after my two kids watched it every saturday morning for two years. My two grandchildren watch it on dvd every time they come over to stay.
I read the book in college before the movie was produced. As I was leaving campus, I had a fellow classmate sign my copy (with red text sections). It remains one book and movie where I love both equally. That is very rare.
This movie totally changed my mind about Andre, I was just a kid and I kind of believed that he wasn't a nice guy, because he was a heel on WWF. But when I saw him in this movie, I realized that to play Fezzik the way that he did, with such warmth and humor, he had to be an amazing person. He really was at that. I was and still am a huge fan of his, because he was such a sweetheart of a guy, a giant, with a giant heart. Now I'm a short lady, 4'7" tall, but what I wouldn't give for just 1 hug from him.
It was a movie which hit all the great entertainment categories: love, loss, laughter, danger, comically bad guys, pageantry, scenery, and good overcoming evil. But Peter Falk saying "as you wish" was a love-filled arrow right into the heart. It's one of very few movies I can watch again and again.
It's also the perfect example for a cover letter! 1: Polite Greeting. 2: Introduction. 3: Establish a connection with the recipient. 4: Explain your intentions.
I have a T-shirt I had made with a large "HELLO MY NAME IS" Red and White name tag. In the white space I wrote, "Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to pay for untold sessions of grief counseling over the next several years"
I have seen it hundreds of times. My youth group would treat it like 'Rocky Horror' and each would choose a scene to preform. I got to do the fight scene dialogue. 😂😂
Reminds me of how, during the pandemic, a large group of celebrities collaborated, where various people recreated a scene at home, for charity. There were a lot of annoying rich-people shenanigans going on, but that was not one of them--it was quite endearing. The person who had the idea put the whole thing on UA-cam for free, which, last I saw, was still there.
My wife and I watched this on our honeymoon. We watched it several times since with our kids, neices, and grand kids. We still can't get enough of this film. She'll still wake me up or go to sleep with one word. Mawidge!
One of the most charming, beautiful, wholesome films of all time that is absolute perfection in every way. To change anything…one line of script, one glance, one note of music (nod in homage to another movie masterpiece Amadeus) would take away from all that is extraordinary about The Princess Bride♥️🥹♥️. I’ve long lost count of how many times I’ve seen it and I could turn it on again any day, any time and I would be instantly engrossed. These characters and the lines they speak have become woven into our hearts and minds; part of the fabric of our culture. It’s a treasure for which I honor every single person who contributed to this work of artistic genius ♥️🥰♥️🥰♥️🥰♥️♥️🥰🥰. Thank you all xoxo

Thank you so much FactsVerse!! I feel honored for the ask and your reply♥️. I am an avid lover of all things related to movies and the stories behind the films that lend so much to my deep appreciation for every aspect of the process. The cinematography, music and score, the costumes and perspective. I could go on and on. I love the focus on the greats, the so called classics “Gone With the Wind”, the “Godfather” and another of my personal favorites “To Kill a Mockingbird” which is a work of art; but never to forget those films that are brilliant in their own right but may not fall under the traditional idea of a ‘classic’ such as Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” which is precious or the incredibly clever and brilliantly voiced “The Emperor’s New Groove”; or the forgotten genius of “Ragtime” a brilliant, tragic, magnificently acted and executed film. I think you’re doing a fine job but I will definitely post if I think of anything I’d love to see! Thank you so much for your content which is wonderful! And for reaching out☺️🫶🕊️.
This movie was the first I ever bought on VHS, and the first I ever bought on DVD. I don't have a blu-ray player but if I ever get one, I will buy The Princess Bride as my first blu-ray movie.
Awe man this was one of the few action (sword fighting etc.) movies I was allowed to watch as a kid. Needless to say I have watched it from beginning to end soooooo many times I was able to recount the entire movies lines off heart beginning to end. Probably a little rusty these days.. Definitely my most watched and all-time favorite movie for sure !!
This show is timeless. I watched it when it came out and then with my children and now just recently with my grandchildren. It absolutely never gets old. I'm a grown man and not afraid to admit that I've probably seen it over 30 times or more.
In 1987 The Princess Bride was released. All during the 90's I heard about it. Again in the 00's I heard about it. Finally around 2015 I said to myself "Ok...let's see what all the noise is about". I loved it and I love quoting lines from it.
I couldn't even tell you how many times I have watched this movie. I never gets old, and it never will get old in my mind. This movie is 100X better than 99% of entertainment even today.
Couldn’t tell you how many cause when I was homesick in the navy, I would put it on repeat in my barracks room so it was always on. I worked midnight shift so whenever I’d sleep during the day it was very comforting to wake up to different parts. Probably have seen it 1000+ times since childhood and could watch it at least once a day all through the week without getting tired of it.
I saw it in the theater when it came out. I have watched it so many times I have lost track. I shared it with my daughter when she was little and each grandchild. My youngest when she saw it for the first time at age 7 fell in love with Wesley. This movie is pure joy and perfectly done.
One of the best memorable movies of all time! Everything was magical from the script to the acting to the directing to the editing. Also great costumes and scenery! Whenever you want to quotes so many lines from one movie than you know that it is a winner!
My cat has been on a prescription for a medication called Tylan Powder for several years now. It's fun to call in a refill and ask for "Iocane Powder" and get a laugh out of whoever answers the phone. Most of the employees there are half the age of the movie or younger, but they all still get it! They all love a movie made long before they were born.
I once went to an outdoor movie night with a friend to see it, back in the 2010s, and could not believe she had never before seen it! She raised 5 children; how did she do that without seeing it?! So many memorable lines and scenes, and it was a great story. A classic!
I've seen the Princess Bride about four times, and originally on the first Saturday it was shown in the movie theater. I loved it and never thought something so well done, funny and romantic would be a hit because it was just too good.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen this movie. Both my daughters love this movie and I can’t wait for grandkids so I can share it with them!!!
I've watched it a number of times and never got sick of it. I just stopped watching, but your video has reminded me of this great movie. I'm going to dig out one of my two DVDs and watch it again.
I can't remember how many times I've watched it! Say the words with it! Lived in the Chicago metro area earlier in the 80's and was happy to see the Refrigerator Perry poster! Was so sweet when Grandpa said " As you wish!" to his grandson! My son saw it in the late 1990's. He was 7 or 8. He laughed so hard at the Albino's gravely voice, then the cough and a "normal voice" And would do that scene All the Time! My sister and I have gotten together as adults for a T.P.B. watch party!
7:30: It was stretched out to three minutes using a few tips from swordfighting movies such as The Mask of Zorro. Hmmm!!! The Princess Bride came out in 1987. The Mask of Zorro came out in 1998!
Favorite family movie through childhood and adulthood! Most of my children know ALL the lines. Still watch it every year, but I have no idea how many times we’ve watched it! The BEST!!!
Everyone says Andre was such a kind and gentle person! It makes me happy knowing he was such an amazing person! There are so many fun, silly, and funny stories about him. Tho my favorite has to be the one Hulk Hogan talked about in an interview. An experience he had with Andre while on a plane traveling to the next WWE match. Apparently Andre scared all the passengers and attendants on the plane because he let out a massive fart. The fart apparently shook the plane slightly and made everyone think the big BOOM sound of his fart was one of the plain Engines exploding!😹 From what I remember of the interview Hulk had to apologize to everyone with Andre and they had to calm everyone down and tell them it’s ok Andre just farted that’s all! we aren’t going to die it’s fine! We are OK! 😹😹😹 if I could find and link the clip from that interview I would lol😹
I have a photo of a guy's car license plate where the plate frame has the phrase "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya" and the license plate has the letters, "YKMFPTD"...
Too many to count… my children grew up watching it so many times they knew all the lines by heart, and so did I. Always excited to watch it again and again and again…greatest movie EVER made!
My cousin and I watched this film many times that we knew the words by heart. I would listen to the audio soundtrack and could visualize every scene from memory. I won a free drink once in a bar when I answered the trivia question: Who composed the music for The Princess Bride? My cousin wrote to William Goldman and asked him if there would be a sequel. Mr. Goldman said there was a problem with getting "Buttercup's Baby" off the ground. I don't remember why, but he did say it would most likely not happen. He said to look at The Princess Bride characters like REAL people where good endings are only for the moment. I won't repeat what he said about the most likely future of the characters. To be honest, it was like he had given up on life and wanted to pass his sorrow downstream.
My late wife grew up in the '80s and this was one of her favorite movies. I had never seen it when we met but she talked me into watching it, which I agreed to because she frequently did joking references to the movie that I didn't "get". Although it's not really my kind of movie, I thought it was ok and certainly had its funny moments, but it will always hold a special place in my heart because of her. It became one of our many common experiences and source of inside jokes. One or both of us would often use lines from the movie in appropriate real life situations, such as "Inconceivable!", "I don't think that word means what you think it means", "Have fun storming the castle!", ""Think it will work?", "It would take a miracle. Bye bye!". Sigh. Now I have to go watch it again and think of her.
My children, who are now in their fifties, still quote the film when we watch it with the grandchildren for the gazillionth time. Princess Bride and A Fish Called Wanda are still my favorite comedy films after all these years.
The part where Wallace Shawn gives Danny DeVito props is very respectable and personally I think Mr. Shawn was the absolute perfect actor for the role. Respect
Absolutely my FAVORITE movie of all time!!! I have watched it so many times I have it memorized :) I love that is is a family movie proving that you can have clean and quality entertainment.
I cant tell you how many times I've seen the Princess Bride. I'm old, almost 43, so every time it aired, it was on the TV. We had the VHS when I was a kid. I bought it when they released on DVD and again when the released it on Bluray. I own it on my Prime account so I can watch it on my phone or tab whenever I want to. I've made sure all four of my kids love the movie. And its sort of a subconscious relationship test, I could never be with any one, biblically, that didnt like this movie. Idk man, thats like asking me how many times I've seen Die Hard. I couldn't count it, so its infinite.
At this point I have already lost count. "The Princess Bride" is such a whimsical, funny and magical movie that feels fresh every time, wonderful every time. I think is fair to say that the cast and crew have created a cinematic gem that hopefully will be enjoyed for many generations. For now I will enjoy it many times more.❤😊
I couldnt count the amount of times i have watched this film and not sure that i should i kniw ive bort it at least 12 times as i think its a great gift as it just makes you feel good to watch it . I thought there wasnt any film like this for years till a friend of my mum lent her a film. Secndhand lions . If you love priness bride its a must watch
My daughter is 27 years old, she has some mental health issues and can't sleep without this movie, since childhood. She sleeps to the movie almost every single night... On repeat. This is at least better than the stint she went through as a baby where she had to listen to Neil Diamond's Christmas Album... fine in November, and December, but by June I was ready to snap that CD and I am the one who bought it, excited because I like Neil Dimond. So, if you figure she has watched at least 3x a night, for 25 years over 27,000 times she has watched it... Yes she wakes to turn it on, or if anyone chnages it or anything... Yes she knows every word, yes she has the book.
Another movie I think has a similar feel is Stardust. I really liked it, felt like it hits the same tone and pacing. Claire Danes feels familiar as the female lead. Michelle Pfeiffer was a good villain too.
William Goldman was a brilliant storyteller. I only wish more writers (and directors) had his experience and passion for doing it well. Instead, *I* will carry that torch even if no one ever reads my work. 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind's journey now begins. Upon my chariot, heart and soul's fate revealed. In time, all points converge; hope's strength resteeled. But to earn final peace at the universe's endless refrain, we must see all in nothingness... before we start again." 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ --Diamond Dragons (series)
This is one of my all time favourite movies, and I've seen it at least twice a year since it came out. The college I went to from September 1988 until April 1992 showed it once every semester that I was there, and I managed to get my hands on a copy of the movie shortly after I graduated, first in VHS format and then later in DVD, then BluRay. To me, it's a perfect movie that has everything, and no one could ever convince me otherwise.
It was one of our family movies! One of our daughter's had all of the lines memorized. We even grabbed the script off of the internet and made our own version of the movie in a high school drama class (in the year that happened to be the 25th anniversary of the movie). My students LOVED the whole process. This movie is treasure! I have been amazed at the variety of people who have told me it's their favorite!

I stopped counting at 117 times. My sister threw a copy of the book at me in High School saying it sucked but I'd probably like it. I did in fact like it, and consider the movie an utter masterpicd.
“I’m not a witch; I’m your wife!”
the line I quote most often LOL
It's actually "I'm not a *winch* I'm your wife!" - referring to the winch he was frantically reaching for 😊
My partner & I inadvertently traumatized a Taco Bell cashier with the full line of, "I'm not a witch, I'm your wife, and after what I just heard I'm not sure I want to be THAT anymore!" Apparently the poor girl hadn't seen the movie and thought she was seeing a divorce brewing before her very eyes. Took a bit of time for us to explain it to her.
I thought it was "wench".
@@RavenMobile No, it's witch. "Wench" means "young woman." He's definitely not calling her that.
That's awesome! (The part where your family could finish the entire movie, not the part about the tape breaking)
@@Raz.CI've done this with cassette tapes too
My Husband, son, and I each race small one-design sailboats (single person) on the Ohio River. Our favorite quote, for MANY years, was the line Inigo uses on the getaway ship - - -"I wonder if he is using the same wind we are using?" Classic sailing jargon and completely true!
Also from Ohio, and that line gets used casting fishing lines or an occasional passing car.
“Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what bwings us togethew today."
Anyone else out there that doesn’t think of this scene when they’re at a wedding?
That, and Space Balls... my two favorite wedding scenes! 😂

But where is the un-edited BLOOPER???
Apparently it's in the title of this video.
@@michaelhoward142 -- 😅😅😅
I think it must have been the part about Cary Elwes' broken toe bit. But the title is quite misleading.
Love the movie, but gave the video a thumb down.

I read the book in college before the movie was produced. As I was leaving campus, I had a fellow classmate sign my copy (with red text sections). It remains one book and movie where I love both equally. That is very rare.
That’s how I feel about To Kill a Mockingbird.
I ran out of fingers counting, so it must have been more than 11. 😂
I tell children I have 11 fingers. I demonstrate by counting down from 10...
10, 9, 8, 7, 6... Then show the other hand. "Plus 5 is 11!"
it was more than 11, and i mean it !

Most people don’t realize it, but this movie is actually just another episode of Columbo.

What a great memory!
"Storybook Love" was the first song at our wedding in 1990

One of the most charming, beautiful, wholesome films of all time that is absolute perfection in every way. To change anything…one line of script, one glance, one note of music (nod in homage to another movie masterpiece Amadeus) would take away from all that is extraordinary about The Princess Bride♥️🥹♥️. I’ve long lost count of how many times I’ve seen it and I could turn it on again any day, any time and I would be instantly engrossed. These characters and the lines they speak have become woven into our hearts and minds; part of the fabric of our culture.

I will give you the most honest answer to how many times I have seen this wonderful movie....... NOT ENOUGH TIMES!
There will never be a better casting ever again. An absolutely legendary production that created a timeless classic.
I have watched Princess Bride probably 50+ times. Great film to watch when I am travelling and tired. A good “feel-good” movie
I saw it in the theater when it came out. I have watched it so many times I have lost track. I shared it with my daughter when she was little and each grandchild. My youngest when she saw it for the first time at age 7 fell in love with Wesley. This movie is pure joy and perfectly done.
Robin Wright was so very pretty, it`s was almost inconceivable......

My cat has been on a prescription for a medication called Tylan Powder for several years now. It's fun to call in a refill and ask for "Iocane Powder" and get a laugh out of whoever answers the phone. I've seen the Princess Bride about four times, and originally on the first Saturday it was shown in the movie theater. I loved it and never thought something so well done, funny and romantic would be a hit because it was just too good.

7:30: It was stretched out to three minutes using a few tips from swordfighting movies such as The Mask of Zorro. Hmmm!!! The Princess Bride came out in 1987. The Mask of Zorro came out in 1998!
I suppose they could’ve meant the tv series of Zorro… and referencing the mask of Zorro could just be a misspoken mistake.
It could have also been a slipup intending to reference the 'MARK' of Zorro, which was an earlier title used in 1920, 1940, and 1974.

Respect

We even grabbed the script off of the internet and made our own version of the movie in a high school drama class (in the year that happened to be the 25th anniversary of the movie). My students LOVED the whole process. This movie is treasure! I have been amazed at the variety of people who have told me it's their favorite!
