This is exactly what I will have done in June. I am looking forward to not having pain like I have experienced for the past 4 - 5 years. Healing of the surgical area I know will be painful but that heals in time. This is an excellent video explaining the surgery and the workings of the entire vertebra system.

I had my lower back surgery decompression and fixation sometime in 2012 and have been fine Since then except for occasional numbness at my feet. I complement the treatment with constant workouts and other back stretching exercises including use of back support at work. The Iranian Hospital at Dubai.

I went to see my Surgeon about calf muscle twitching and half numb feet, and a slowly shrinking left calf muscle. I was also finding it uncomfortable to stand tall. The mri showed medium central spinal stenosis. I was not in pain as such. Working in construction. Heavy work. Fast forward, I got this procedure (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion Procedure) at l3-l4. I'm now two years 7 months out of surgery. I can stand straight, but the twitching and numb feet are still present. And the shrinking calf is still there. I'm very active and live in fear, I'm going to ruin my fusion. I swim a kilometre freestyle every other day, and work manually a lot. My back is feeling fragile, but still no serious pain. Weak and a little stiff. So I've stopped swimming, as I want this fusion to last till I die. And my work has become way less. I'm currently 68 and very fit. But anxiety about my back is annoying, but always present. Sometimes I wished I had waited 5-8 more years... I'm always sorry to hear, of people, in really serious back pain, sorry to you all, so terrible. Cheers Mark from Auckland. NZ.

I am having this surgery in a week. Have been suffering extreme pain in left hip and all down left leg and foot due to a pinched nerve no one can find!!!! Sure hope surgery helps..
have your pain doctor , surgeon perform nerve conduction studies to see where pain is coming from. Don't have surgery without knowing where pain is coming from. Good Luck I hope you find the source. You might have to do mylogram as well.
Thank you for these videos. I had a TLIF in 09/20 due to issues at L4-5 on the right side. No left side issue at the time. However, now I am having issues with the L5 on the left side and am having a Laminal Foraminotomy. My surgeon said he would to remove hardward in order to get to the L5 on the left side and that it would be an outpatient procedure. So, this was very confusing considering the initial TLIF. This video was really helpful for me to under better about the instrumentation and placement.

@@DhileepR No , procedures slightly different. PLIF makes incision down the mid back , TFIL 2 incisions on either side of midline spine. it avoids cutting nerves
After the two vertebrae are joined together (fully healed) - are the pedicle screws removed in a subsequent procedure - since the support they initially provided seems no longer necessary.
Some people do go in and have the hardware removed, but usually only if it’s causing issues for them. I had my fusion when I was 10 and I’m turning 35 this year and still have all of my hardware in place. I don’t feel like it’s worth it to go in and get rid of it when it’s not bothering me.
Once the bone fuses you are much less flexible in that region right? Is this a good thing? What happens if you over stretch that region? It looks like something potentially painful

I Have had three neck surgeries,1st was a failed fusion and screws backed out eventually broke.After 2nd fusion was in minor car accident screws broke once again. 3rd surgery an artificial disc placed in C-2 and C-7 fused at C-5-6. I now can move my head side to side up and down. The surgeon told me he believes and I truly believe that your spine is free motion . Where is the free motion with rods in your back? I now have problems at T-10 down to S-1 , L4-5 S-1 being priority now what? Searching the U S for new technique other than fusion and rods

It does not have to be replaced. The small piece that is "slipped" can be removed and the rest of disc can be left alone. Speak to your doctor and see what he/she recommends and feels is best for you.
I had a L4-5 and L5-s1 fusion in the beginning of 2017 after 2 years of TERRIBLE back pain/Leg pain (herniated disc)and then at the end of the year I had the screws and rods removed. (Still had pain, different pain dr said should remove hardware) Since the removal I’ve been so much worse! MRI and X-ray shows “perfectly healed spine” can anyone help ? Where could this pain come from? Can’t sleep, EVERYTHING HURTS! back breaking pain when cough, sneeze, try to run. I’m only 31 but I feel like I’m 90!
@@nimanajeha1564 back still hurts, less but hurts. Still some numbing and tingling all the way down into my toes. Sneezing still sucks and Yeah, I’m still hurt. Less? Maybe, but from when?!?!? I’m not even sure! 😟
Also some bathroom issues from directly after the second surgery and still to this day which is the worst. Pain I can hide but pissing on myself, not so much
I've had a second herniation and discectomy on my l4 l5 disk. I'm mortified of arthritis and potentially having to get a fusion in the future. Wtf fml Also, I feel like in 100 years humans will look back at the TLIF as barbaric 😭. Orthopedics seems to be carpenter for the human body 😭🥱

How long it's been?
I had surgery on December the 2nd of 21. Yeah i have muscle spasms and pain. But i have diabetes and it taking long for the wound to heal.

PLIF and TLIF both are same as per my knowledge
