  • This is the first time I ever really wanted to show you trenches... real Prussian concrete trenches, and intact too.
Roger and I are visiting one of the most amazing Prussian forts constructed around the turn of the Century, Fort de Guentrange, the fort next to Fort Koenigsmacher, guarding Thionville. Patton arrived here and prepared to do battle here as he was at Koeningmacher, and remember how hard it was to take Fort Wagner to the South.
However this fort was one of the newest and best they had, even newer than Wagner.with all the most modern fortress technology of the time. However Patton got a break here, at least from the German Army they left the fort knowing they were about to be surrounded. So the Americans were handed over the entire fortress intact.
And that left us 75 years later with an amazing group of re-enactors who kept her alive and running. And now I can show you how the Prussians and Germans would have lived and fought here, from the kitchen to the battle stations, and there are a few things here Roger and I had never before seen, so I am wagering neither have you. Lets go.
Please like and follow it really helps me continue bringing these around the world to you.

Sir, thank you for this. Your channel has volumes. My family have hosted Americans, Englishmen and Germans, on the farm in South Africa. Your Steel General did not perish in an accident. Commies.

A truly outstanding location ty. What a great place for reenactments and film settings.
I think blowing up the heavy gun turrets, was more a symbolic act than for any practical reason. The Americans had come a long way across the ocean and waited for many months, some even years in Britain itching for action.
Although the D day landings, Normandy campaign, as well as Italy, Sicily and North Africa, were very tough battles. The Germans pulling back to Germany, left the Western Allied armies, without a conclusive victory and their ultimate trophy. The head of the beast they were hunting so to speak.
It was also a symbolic gesture for the French, to disarm the invaders, who had occupied their lands for 4+ years. A massive morale boost and a way of formally cementing General Patton’s victorious campaign. As well as all the commanders, politicians and the western alliance overruling the Nazis.
Perhaps also, it was as much a fear and moreso that the Soviets might capture them?
It was great to see Toger, he looks in good shape. And the guide was exceptionally good as well. They both really helped to bring the history to life. The museum looked awesome, definitely on my bucket list.
I hope that you bought the guide and Roger a good meal.
My gratitude to you all. 💛💪🏻💪🏻

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that banana peeling the barrel of your cannon is probably going to have a profound effect on the soldiers manning the fort. Probably going to have an even more profound effect on the men inside the turret. I'm guessing that is quite likely to make some poo come out, which would likely be the least of your problems at that particular moment.
That place really is amazing. I just can't get enough of that power plant. Those control panels are just gorgeous, and I adore those old 20+ liter displacement single cylinder two stroke diesels. Just keep an eye on those oiler cups and those things will run damn near forever with not much more than an occasional new flap of leather for the intake valve every 5 or ten years. But it is just fantastic seeing a fort like this in the state it is, which I'm sure is no small feat for the volunteers involved in getting it back in form and keeping it that way.

another epic video Tino, full of epicness as always
at 45:19 you said you hadn't seen anything like this, and it got me thinking of something similar, now i forget the video exactly, but i was considering one where there was a compound or corner of a garden or grave yard with a wall, didn't that have a below ground pill box, i think the building inside the compound was a small chapel with an underground basement level at the rear, but also somewhere perhaps another video there were similar turrets pill boxs but in worse state, you climbed around them, there was some barbed wire also, but no entry inside them, perhaps with similar slit type viewing ports for observation, but like these, small, built into a bank or hill for observation
the tunnel system you walked through was incredible to see in such a complete state, it makes me want to get a sand blasting unit with a few tons of sand and begin systematically sand blasting everything and make ready to repaint, it would be amazing to have a sandblaster that would recycle the sand used and simply move from room to room, along the corridors and get everything really clean, get the steel shutters and doors working ready for zinc primer and top coat

Great content as usual. But sadly again the audio wasn't. Everyone needs to be mic d up as so much is inaudible due to echoes etc, and detracts from the overall experience. I again love your content and love learning the history, but sadly so much is lost. Mic,s for all. Blessings to you Tino
