- My favourite Indian film of all time.
Adoor Gopalakrishnan is a genius, and this one film is perhaps all you need to convince yourselves of that. Uploaded in high quality with hard-coded English subtitles.
To quote the great Adoor himself,
“Everything is ambivalent about [Ajayan’s] upbringing. The doctor whom he calls his father is not his real father… His brother is not his real brother, but like one. There is a certain duality about his perceptions… As soon as we start making sense of reality, it turns into something else… Cinema is after all a series of frames and the reality within them. But then there is a reality outside it as well. Which one is real, the one within the frame or outside of it? When the camera changes angles, lenses, or alters positions, the frame also changes. So here the reality is altered, qualified or even negated… The film, in fact, is a more organized dream made up by the conscious mind.”

ആരോരും ഇല്ലാത്ത അനാഥ പയ്യൻ... കഴിവുകൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നിട്ടും ആളുകൾ മാറ്റി നിർത്തിയും അവഗണിച്ചും അവന്റെ ബാല്യം ഒറ്റപ്പെടൽ നിറഞ്ഞത് ആയിരുന്നു.. ആ മൂന്ന് വൃദ്ധന്മാർ ഒരുപാട് ഉപദ്രവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.. മറ്റുള്ള കുട്ടികൾക്ക് ഒപ്പം കൂട്ട് കൂടാൻ പോലും സമ്മതിക്കാതെ അവനെ പൂട്ടിയിട്ട് വളർത്തി... അവൻ അനുഭവിച്ച അനാഥത്വം അവനെ ഒരു മാനസികരോഗിയാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നു..
ചെറിയ പ്രായത്തിൽ തന്നെ അജയന് മാനസിക പ്രശ്നം ഉണ്ട്.. ഇല്ലാത്ത കാര്യങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടെന്ന് തോന്നുക.... ഒരു മഴ കാണുന്ന സീൻ കാണിക്കുന്നുണ്ട് ശെരിക്കും മഴ പെയ്യുന്നു എന്നുള്ളത് അവന്റെ തോന്നലാണ്..
സ്നേഹിക്കപ്പെടാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന അജയൻ over think ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന reality എന്ന് തോന്നിക്കുന്ന ചില ഇമേജിനേഷൻസ്....
ബസിൽ ഇരുന്ന് ഒരു പെൺകുട്ടി അജയനെ ദിവസവും നോക്കുന്നു.. അത് ചിലപ്പോ യാദൃച്ഛികമായി സംഭവിച്ചതും ആവാം.. അവർ ഒരിക്കലും കണ്ടുമുട്ടിയിട്ടും ഇല്ല.. സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടും ഇല്ല.. പക്ഷെ അജയൻ അവിടെ ഒരു imagination കൊണ്ട് വരുന്നു.. സ്നേഹിക്കപ്പെടാനുള്ള മോഹം കൊണ്ട്.. അജയൻ സ്വയം ലെറ്റർ എഴുതി നളിനി എന്നൊരാൾ ഉണ്ടെന്നത് പോലെ പെരുമാറുന്നത് docter അങ്കിൾ ഒരിക്കൽ ഹോസ്റ്റലിൽ ചെന്നപ്പോൾ കണ്ടു.. അങ്ങനെയാണ് പുള്ളി അജയന് മാനസികരോഗം ഉണ്ടെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നത്.. ആ വിഷമത്തിൽ heart attack വന്നു മരിക്കുന്നു.. ഈ വിവരം ബാലു അറിഞ്ഞു മനഃപൂർവം അജയനെ മരണവാർത്ത അറിയിക്കാതെ ഇരുന്നതാണ്...
ബാലുവിന്റെ ഭാര്യ സുമയെ കണ്ടതിന് ശേഷം നളിനി എന്ന പെൺകുട്ടിക്ക് സുമയുടെ മുഖം നൽകുന്നു... അതുവരെ നളിനിക്ക് മുഖം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.. സുമ സുന്ദരിയാണ് മാത്രം അല്ല അജയന് ബാലുവിനോട് അസൂയ ഉണ്ടെന്നും പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് ഉണ്ട്... തന്റേത് ആയിരുന്നതിനെ ബാലു തട്ടി എടുക്കും എന്ന ചിന്ത...
സുമ നളിനി ആവുന്നു.. അവർ പ്രണയിക്കുന്നു.. തന്നെ വഞ്ചിച്ചു ബാലുവിനെ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുന്നതായി സങ്കൽപ്പിക്കുന്നു.. പിന്നീടുള്ള ഭാഗങ്ങൾ കാണുമ്പോൾ logic ഇല്ലാത്തത് പോലെ തോന്നുന്നത് അത് reality അല്ലാത്തത് കൊണ്ടാണ്...
ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് അത്രയും deep ആയിട്ട് imagine ചെയ്യാനുള്ള കഴിവ് ഉണ്ട്.. സ്വപ്നം സ്വയം നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നത് പോലെ... നളിനിയുടെ അച്ഛൻ meet ചെയ്യുന്നതൊക്കെ reality ആക്കാനായി അജയന്റെ മനസ്സ് scenes create ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ്.. തൊട്ട് അടുത്ത സീനിൽ നളിനി പറയുന്നു അച്ഛൻ മരിച്ചിട്ട് 7 വർഷം ആയെന്ന്.. അതൊന്നും reality അല്ല.. Also his roommate is not real.. അജയന് close ആയി ആരും തന്നെ ഇല്ല.. നളിനിയുടെ അച്ഛനെ roommate കാണുന്നുണ്ട് that means roommatum അജയന്റെ imagination മാത്രം..
നളിനിയുടെ വീട് അന്വഷിച്ചു പോവുമ്പോൾ മാലിനി എന്ന പെൺകുട്ടിയെ കാണുന്നു.. ശെരിക്കും ആ പെൺകുട്ടിയാണ് ബസ്സിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്.. പതിയെ അജയൻ reality accept ചെയ്യാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.. പക്ഷെ ദിവസങ്ങളോളം മരുന്ന് കഴിക്കാത്തത് കൊണ്ട് അവനെ ഭ്രാന്ത് പൂർണ്ണമായും കീഴടക്കുന്നു..
അജയന് മാനസികരോഗം ആണെന്ന് എല്ലാവർക്കും അറിയാം.... ബാലുവിനു അജയന്റെ പ്രവർത്തികളിൽ വലിയ ഞെട്ടൽ ഒന്നും ഇല്ലാതെ നോക്കി നിൽക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞത് സത്യം അറിയാവുന്നത് കൊണ്ടാണ്.. ഒരുപക്ഷെ ഇതുപോലെ മുമ്പും പെരുമാറിയിട്ട് ഉണ്ടാവാം.. മരുന്ന് കഴിക്കാൻ ആവർത്തിച്ചു പറയുന്നുമുണ്ട്..
ഒറ്റപ്പെടൽ വല്ലാത്തൊരു ഭീകരാവസ്ഥയാണ്.. കഴിവും ബുദ്ധിയും ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും ചിലപ്പോഴൊക്കെ മനസ്സ് കൈ വിട്ട് പോകാം.. Love അതാണ് ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് വേണ്ടത്.. അത് ഇല്ലെങ്കിൽ പിന്നെ വെറും ഭ്രാന്തമായ ജീവിതം.... ❤

പളുങ്ക് പോലൊരു പ്രിന്റ്! അനന്തരം ഇത്രയും നല്ല ക്വാളിറ്റിയില്‍ കാണാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞതില്‍ ഒരുപാടു സന്തോഷം. ശോഭനയെ ഇത്രയും സുന്ദരിയായി വേറൊരു സിനിമയിലും കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല.

Best film. മുടക്കിയ പണം തിരിച്ചു കിട്ടില്ല എന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും ഇതുപോലുള്ള സിനിമകൾ ചെയ്യാൻ പണം മുടക്കുന്ന നിർമാതാക്കൾ ആണ് യഥാർത്ഥ നിർമാതാക്കൾ. സിനിമയെ വെറും ഒരു എന്റർടൈൻമെന്റ് ആക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹം ഇല്ലാത്തവർ ആയിരിക്കും ഇവരുടെ പ്രജോതനം. ബിഗ് സല്യൂട്ട്. ഈ സിനിമയുടെ കഥ വളരെ വ്യത്യസ്തത ആണ്. കൂട്ടികാലം മുതൽ ഒറ്റപെട്ടു മാതാപിതാക്കൾ വരെ ആരാണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഒരാളുടെ കഥ. ഒറ്റപ്പെടൽ അയാളുടെ മനസ്സിൽ മാനസികമായ പല പ്രശനങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു. അതോടൊപ്പം പുസ്തക വായനകൂടി ആയപ്പോൾ അയാൾ മനസ്സിൽ ഉള്ള ഒറ്റപ്പെടൽ ഇല്ലാതാക്കാൻ സ്വന്തം മനസ്സിൽ തന്നെ ഒരു കഥാപാത്രം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നു. ആ കഥാപാത്രത്തോട് സംസാരിക്കുന്നു, ആ കഥാപാത്രത്തെ പ്രണയിക്കുന്നു. അവസാനം ഇതെല്ലാം തന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ ഉള്ള വെറും സാങ്കല്പികത ആണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ വല്ലാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിൽ എത്തുന്നു.
മനുഷ്യൻ ഒരു സാമൂഹിക ജീവി ആണ്. മനുഷ്യൻ സമൂഹത്തോട് ഇടപെടേണ്ടത് വളരെ അത്യാവശ്യം ആണ്. ഗുഡ് ഫിലിം

ഈ സിനിമയുടെ 1.25 .16 കഴിയുമ്പോൾ ഉള്ള Bus stop തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തിനടുത്തുള്ള കാര്യവട്ടം യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി കാബസ്സാണ് (എൻ്റെ ജന്മസ്ഥലം) യൗവനകാലത്ത് ഈ പടത്തിൻ്റെ ഷൂട്ടിംഗ് കാണാൻ പോയി നിന്നതും അശോകനുമായി സംസാരിച്ചതുമൊക്കെ ഇന്നത്തെപ്പോലെ ഓർക്കുന്നു. അന്ന് രണ്ട് Bus ആണ് ഷൂട്ടിംഗിന് വേണ്ടി കൊണ്ട് വന്നത് 2. ,3, ദിവസം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു ഷൂട്ടിംഗ്. നിറമുള്ള കാലം ഇനി ഒരിക്കലും തിരിച്ച് വരാത്ത കാലം❤❤❤❤❤💞💞💞😊

This movie has depicted this psychological problem in two ways … adorable effort by director who is known for his film making , my first experience with Adoor film is something very different , a totally different yet impressive way of depicting thoughts and human mind’s complications….
It’s like reading a good book….
All the three main characters are outstanding in their performances…
Asokan has played the character of Vijayan in a very articulate manner….
My first impression regarding Mamooty … he is outstandingly natural…
Slow pace of the movie supported by soothing background music woven in very different style of story telling is enough to make it a memorable experience…
My first experience with such a good film will take me to other creations of Adoor Sir….

Om Sairam ,adoor sir is more than a Psychiatrist , I am a medical doctor and a writer ,Hence I can understand how beautifully he has built up the psychological disturbances ,the boy undergoes ," the crude school teacher ,no friends, love shown by the doctor ,( which does not embrace him) ,the threatening shouting and laughter ,"yakshini built up " frequent haunting rain ,thunder, etc ,All put together haunt the little lonly boy ,. Inspite of the Heavy love ,care and concern shown by Mammootty ( excellent acting ) the boy's disturbed mental status never gets repaired ,may be due to the basic factor " some genetic disturbance" on which the other ,environmental ,( multiple ) factors are piled up ,we are surrounded by such people ,we do not understand them when we are young but do pity them when we get old ,that is " intelligent aging "

This is my favourite Malayalam film ever made. I simply had to upload it once I got my hands on it! You know, I got this copy directly from Adoor Gopalakrishnan himself, after I went all the way to his place to get a print since it didn't seem to be available anywhere else in Kerala, something he assured after I called him up. Whenever I get good quality Malayalam films, I'll make it a point to upload them. I have a HQ print of Pokkuveyil, one of G Aravindan's best ever films. I'll see if I can upload that soon.

thank u very much for uploading the movie. I thought this was lost. I made a desperate search for the movie during the years when I taught Adoor's interview in class XII. On a personal note, I remember watching this as a 12 year old kid, to be haunted in the many days to come. This will certainly take us into a trance. Just like an experience that can be equated to watching Kim Kuduk's " spring, summer....". A true meditation that defies all the spiritual paradigms hitherto known.

I believe Suma is an imaginary lover, cause the whole story about suma seemed pretty convenient to me. Ajayan has like deep rooted hatred for females I think? He was abandoned by his mother, got beaten up cause of that elder sister Latha (he probably had a crush on her too ), Yogini amma, those ladies he passes by when goes to the pond with Mammooty. Ajayan tells his brother he wants to strangle his birth mother and in another scene he says he is jealous of mammooty. I feel like he wanted to get rid of shobhana from his brothers life cause he prolly thought she'd come in between his relationship with his brother(far fetched, theory I know) seemingly the only real relationship he ever had in his life with anyone.
