It always helps to know someone., don't make any enemies, and treat every paycheck as your last.
That's solid advice.
Huge fan of Greg..
Had the first album back then and I had those "Howe II" records with his brother too!
Killer stuff!
Howe II is awesome. There's some great videos of them on youtube.
Being at the right place, at the right time, and knowing the right people - Basically, we are social creatures that prioritize familiarity over many other things. And now supplemented by the internet.
That's definitely a factor.
Makes total sense.
I thought he would talk about practice, learning songs, recording yourself, learning theory, being excellent to work with being flexible, saying yes every time.
What you say comes before that! It’s obvious that you have to be an excellent player, but you can be an excellent player and remain unsuccessful if presenting yourself, etc…. This has nothing to do with pushing ego or showing off. It’s a necessity, I think
It's definitely a perspective shift.
This is a quick Greg Howe Master Class!
For real! I learned a ton.
This actually makes so much sense
That's awesome! I'm glad you learned something from this.
Recently saw/heard him llive...
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
His advise here ...GOLDEN!
🤘😔🎸🤘😔🎸🤘😔🎸🤘😔🎸
100% Agree. Glad you got to see him.
This is pretty much perfect.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
brilliant answer!
Thank you for sharing this!
Of course. Please check out the full podcast when you get a chance.
Solid advice.
It really is. I love how practical it is.
Awesome seeing a nod to Randy in the room. Always loved Gregs work as a local from Easton P.A
What is the nod to Randy?? I didn't see it.
The white Les Paul Custom is as Randy as it gets. Everyone credits Slash with making the Les Paul cool again in the 80's, but Randy was shredding on one years earlier. @@rhynestoneproductions
As someone who did nothing, after forty years my answer would be:
Unless you manage to get a bonafide Hit song with kids you grew up with, you are going to be playing other peoples Music if you want a Career in Music. The "is this what people want to hear" really hit home, we were trying to play IronMaiden and Sabbath style Music, no on wants to hear that in a basement or back yard for a hour. Kurt Cobain figured that out.
I realize now the "*cowboy band" I was in had the best chance of building a reputation for entertaining people and being a working band that turned a profit.
AND : Learn How To Sing......
*Lynyrd Skynyrd Eagles Steve Miller ect.....
That's a very interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing.
Preparation and opportunity.
100%! I couldn't agree more.
His remark at 4:38 is genius.
100%. It's such a smart way of putting it.
Real talk
Greg is a real one for sure.
He is really smart.
And full of wisdom. Dude knows his stuff.
Very interesting!
Definitely is. Greg has a very unique perspective.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Interesting, but it feels like he's answering "how do you become a star" not "how can you get work as a guitarist" because the answer he gives is to the first.
I don't think the question was about trying to catch a break and become brad pitt, but how to get the jobs brad was doing before he shot into megastardom.
Actors in HOLLYWOOD are all related, that's how they do it
Some are, but definitely not all of them.
