Rik Emmet is a treasure!
what a nice, humble, supremely talented man.
Couldn't be more talented. 100% agree.
So true I ❤to hear sing, and watch him play. Move over Nuno Bettencourt.
Dude this is a vocal master class without singing a single note.
And an incredible guitar player..AND, more importantly, a decent human.
Pretty solid way of saying he got lucky by nature and had the good sense to realize it.
As talented as he obviously is, listening to Rik Emmett speak gives me the sense that he is an even better person.
Love Rik Emmett. He is the most underrated Rockstar. Humble and anonymously talented. A great guy. He has won the rockstar race.
Rick has the attitude of a winner.
He worked for all of it.
Rik's honesty about his voice is so refreshing to hear. The man is a Living Legend❤❤
I saw Triumph with Yngwie's Rising Force opening up in the 80's. Rick Emmett was fantastic beyond belief. Complete package of song writing, stage presence and musicality.
I had forgotten how good Triumph's songs were until I stumbled across them again here recently. That band never got enough credit.
They are in my top 7 of all time favorite rock bands.
Rik is just the coolest, nicest guy you would ever hope to meet. I've never actually met him, but in 1979 he acknowledged a 14 year old kid wearing a TRIUMPH t-shirt on the front row. It meant a lot to me.
I was lucky enough to meet Rik at a radio station in 2004. He played a part of “Midsummer’s Daydream“, then played & sang a couple of verses from “Hold On” five feet away from me on a Yamaha acoustic.
He’s a class act and an extremely talented individual.
Triumph was a very special band; and Rik is incredibly gifted.
Humble, classy, and a total gentleman. Rick is an amazing guitarist and singer. God bless him!
I’ve seen Triumph many times back in the 80’s and Rik never missed a note!!
the real deal….I was beyond fortunate to be at Daryls House that night, oh my gosh, just, wowza….by the way. the sound man he speaks of, is Pete Moshay, the best! Anyways, it was such a great show, really…we went back again a year or so, and even better, got to hang for a bit, take a picture, had him sign a Daryls Menu, he laughed at my 80s hair…..is was great and I would do it again in a heartbeat, a beautiful, talent human being
Love this man
Always honest always real true legend
Triumph: Canada’s other power trio. Been a fan since I first heard ‘Magic Power’ on the radio in 1981. I went right out and bought ‘Allied Forces’ on vinyl. Still have it. Rik is really quite amazing as a singer and guitarist!
Such a legend. Incredible talent.
Vocals on “Time goes by” are incredible!
This is fantastic. I didn't think I could love and admire this man more...but I do now. Proud to have been a fan since the 70s in my teens.
God bless your life Rik.
Wow. Just wow. 19 minutes of incredible wisdom and honesty. Thank you!
You said it!
I have mad respect for Rik. Most singers will not talk about off nights. I’ve been a fan for nearly fifty years. I was given a promo copy of their first album on Attic Records and have been hooked ever since.
Wow!
Mr. Emmett, Thank You. Experiencing You, Triumph at US 83. Put My Life On Track. Honesty, humility, Love and Strength.
R*S*M guitarist. =Mannah Pariah=
That was a killer set they did.
an under appreciated legend
As a singer for an 80s tribute band, I found this video to be very inspirational. Thank you!
Rik is just an awesome player and singer. A real inspiration.
He definitely inspired me after we talked.
@@rhynestoneproductions @rhynestoneproductions I was on a Zoom call with him and about 20 others back in 2021. He was talking about song writing. It definitely inspired me to do some writing. And some playing! I wish I had his chops. Triumph Thunder Seven is one of my top favorite albums of all time.
Yeah and there's no way he's going to reveal in an interview that he puts his testicles in a vice 3x a week to maintain the high notes...
I'm glad YT sent this to me.
I'm not familiar with Rik but i am now a fan.
What a great person.
I got to see Triumph in Edmonton, some time in the 80s.
One of the best shows ever.
Ricks's energy, and vocal range were second to none.
Triumph and Rush were the great balance in the force vs all the other great hedonistic bands we loved too. So good
I totally relate to this young man's recognizing his mortality at 30, even though he's still young. I remember turning 30, thinking, "What happened? I was just 20 yesterday!" I'm 56 now, and 30 feels like 5 minutes ago. My best advice is to stay in the moment and appreciate every moment of it.
What a joy to listen to him share his insight. Awesome interview. Makes me miss being able to sing though....
Underrated and under appreciated musical whiz..🍺🎸
Totally love this guy. So much ability, knowledge, and humility. Rik, reach out to Steve Perry and collaborate on something; craft it for your vocals now. Even in old age you guys would be fantastic!
One of my favorite artist ever, was only able to him live once in 1985, Thunder Seven tour, Triumph at it's peak, amazing!!!
Great questions on the voice. Nice of Rik to be honest about tuning down, etc. He gives terrific advice too.
God bless Rik! Always loved the music and now more of a fan of the man.
I like his honesty about his current range. Most seem to think that the human voice is immune to getting older.
Try telling that to Journey fans who are still saying that they need to get Steve Perry back. They are the most delusional bunch out there.
Amazing artist. Great personality. A role model to follow🎸
Always had giant respect for this guy. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Very cool guy! Talented, humble...
As a musician and a singer this was absolutely inspirational. Thk you Rik for your songs and your inspiration
Absolutely!
Great interview thanks so much. Rik Emmett is SUCH a talent...from singing to electric guitar to classical guitar to songwriting...unreal talent!!!
Lay it on the line!!!
Rik, Dang what a cool dude. And wonderful interview.
Absolutely Rick
A great lesson in musical craft and performance
I discovered Triumph back in 1980, and Rik was a major influence on being able to play a wide range of musical styles. A top versatile guitar player forever...."Fingerpickin" is still one of the greatest acoustice fingerstyle pieces ever.
I've always loved listening to what Rik had to say. Great Musician!
Rik gives excellent advice. Super talented and yet refreshingly humble guy. Great interview too. Bravo!
RIK I have even More Respect for you now and you keep moving.
Great thoughts on pacing oneself to conserve range. I’m gonna take this to heart.
Outstanding interview with Rik! What an amazingly honest, helpful and gracious man. Thanks for sharing your wonderful music, knowledge and advice!
Amazing talent
While he didn't say it, Rik also had the benefit of having Gil Moore split vocals with him during the Triumph era. Rik could certainly give his voice some rest when Gil took the lead, however Rik and Gil would often split vocals on some songs. It became a different story when Rik was out on his own.
You can have all the talent in the world and still not make it, unless you have some smarts. Rick has it. 🍻
Awesome interview. I love the insight of his mindset and belief system. 🎸🤘🏻👍
" I most maintain this work ethic, this discipline." Legendary quote.
Love Rik Emmett.. so sad I didn't get to see him back in the day. But what a vocal and guitar monster!! Love ya Rik. Your an inspiration!! Keep rockin'
Fantastic interview
Thanks Rik, What you're saying makes so much sense! Such great advice!!!
100% agree. Rik knows his stuff.
Freaking love this guy. So down to earth, so humble, so honest. He makes me proud to be a Canadian. We had the best boys performing. Sad that's gone now.
Rick played Hamilton about oh idk about 10 years ago on a beautiful summer night. The show was free at the Bandshell (gone now). But I could clearly hear the show from my backyard all the way across the city on the border of Stoney Creek and Hamilton. Rick is the best. You could sit on the escarpment and hear that show as if you were at the Bandshell. That show was truly free for the entire city. May God Bless Rick.
A girl I met from Canada introduced me to Triumph. Rick has always been supremely talented, professional guy. I think Triumph could have stretched a bit farther in the songwriting, maybe a little more Bon Jovi - ish "overcome the hardships" edgier stuff, that's the American psyche, but Rick is an incredibly positive, inspiring, optimist guy. He brought it from the heart. Fight the Good Fight is still a favorite of mine. Helped me through some tough times 👍 Thanks Rick 🤘Who else can say they did everything they did, had impeccable talent, great albums and apparently a blast. I was in a garage band playing guitar, but Graduated & immediately joined the Navy, and it was like Summer of 69'. Those guys were on the radio, stars. They lived the Dream. One helluva ride, I bet !!! Cool interview, enjoyed it ✌️
Big fan of Rick, so underrated as evident by his ability to sing and play at such a high level simultaneously.
What a joy
than you so so much for this video. Wonderful souls!
I saw Triumph in Chicago back in the day. At one point Rik hit this high note.... It was so amazing high that you could see the expression of awe in a few faces in the crowed. It was a high, clear and clean note sang with absolute authority. I will ever forget that moment. It was ming blowing.
Rik talks about hitting high F#, but (please correct me if I'm wrong) I think in the US Festival "Fight the Good Fight" he gets to G. Remarkable.
Rik seems like one of the few "Stars" that seems like a normal guy. Still one of my favorite bands
Great insights from a real pro. Thanks
Awesome !!! I got to see Rik in Cobourg Ontario in the seventies with his band Act 3 .He has always been a monster talent and a great all round person .
I learned so much from this. A very generous person, Rick.
So genuine
Thanks Rik for your music and memories that it still brings!
what great honest and informative answers!! Bravo
Awesome advice - awesome interview thx
My most favorite musician ever!
I was fortunate as a 14 year Old Kid to see Triumph Live at Ontario Place in Toronto in their Prime. NO AUTOTUNE or Sampling and it was as if the record was playing. Love his honesty about tuning down a semi-tone. Class Act, a great Guitarist / Vocalist. They don't make them like that anymore.
I met him in tampa in the eighties I was recording the band live.I'm a studio musician.I said to him someday you'll play Jazz.He laughed at me.I saw him in boco a couple years ago.He was playing jazz jokes on yo
Triumph was in my top 4 favorite bands of all time and Allied Forces is a soundtrack to my early high school days. Magic Power is one of my most favorite songs of all time. Journey with Steve Perry is by far number 1 for me. I was at that July 2, 1982 Rose Bowl Journey/Triumph/Blue Oyster Cult/Aldo Nova show at 15 years old, and what an incredible day that was. My two best friends and and I walked to the Rose Bowl down back roads at around 3am to get in line. What a treat it was to have Triumph there along with Journey. It's great to hear about this conversation between Steve Perry and Rik. I've always considered Rik to be very underrated as both a singer and guitarist. This interview makes me respect him as a musician and a person even more.
What a gifted and humble human being. Thank you for your music.❤
Met Rick once. Cool guy.
Humble, classy.
His morality and ethics are excellent.
So humble... and such a great guy!
Much respect for this man.
I love your honesty Brother 🙂 Gil said in an interview you were Johnny be good just a ringing a bell that sounds about right Thank You for all the incredible music.
Rik is one of my favorite guitarist! I play more like him than any other guitarist. He always has that rock/ major 7th pretty but emotional but rock! lol my favorite sound in music! His songs always sounded a little Christian based, probably why I love it so much. Thanks Rik
The most amazing human on earth!
Great interview!
Great interview!!!
What incredible advice. Wow!!!
Triumph is just amazing. All three ware super talented.
What a great interview.
Rik is the man
Rik Emmett Is One Best Guitarist Ever Definitely My Favorite I Have 7 Trump cd an 3 of His Solos An Absolutely Is One Of The Best Albums Ever
Thank you for your service.🇺🇸 ❤
7:34 yep, if Steve Perry is giving you a compliment about high D's E's, that's a compliment.
Love his singing from your core so true! I don't sing often but when I have, I can't do it any other way.
A class act ! Great interview
He speaks the honest truth
