My first Double Dragon. Although I did emulate the Japanese version Return of Double Dragon years later, that version is the best one and my favorite Double Dragon. One of the best and one of my favorite video games of all time.
You have no idea how much I miss Super Double Dragon due its music, and this track (actually all) are an amazing tribute to DD. Thx you so much for making this possible!
My favorite thing about this version is the ramp up. It starts out with the classic syth riff, then suddenly explodes into the new version. Its Glorious!!!
Every track of Return of Double Dragon was a banger and this game turned them all to 11. Super Double Dragon? That rushed out crap? It had the soundfont, but not the compositions.
This rules! Any particular tricks to getting the recorded guitar to blend in with the retro synths? Cause it sounds super "era appropriate", straight out of the arcade
To be honest, I felt like I couldn't get the clean guitar to sit so well in this mix (at least not back when I made it) but I think the key is having a lot of chorus and routing the guitar to the same reverb bus as the synths. If you listen to old 80s/90s mixes they're pretty drenched in chorus in reverb, but you have to be tasteful about it. The king of this style is Ryo Yonemitsu and I used his music as a reference when working on this soundtrack. I highly recommend checking out the Ys III PC Engine CD soundtrack and the Megami Tensei Fusion Disk, as those have some really nice mixes in this style.
An, yeah~ "Duke's Trap" from the _Return of Double Dragon_ prototype soundtrack. Someone needs to mod that game to play this track during the elevator sequence, instead of the truck level. Also, this sounds a lot like the _Captain Planet_ credits theme, or something from New Kids on the Block. And I am A-OK with that.
Super Double Dragon is my favorite Double Dragon game

My absolute favorite double dragon track. I lift weights to this. So happy they put it in the game.
Perfection. A great homage to the legacy of DD.
Thanks!
