I love this interviewer because she just lets Daveed take the conversation where he wants it to go. I'm at 11 minutes right now and most interviewers would have jumped in during Daveed's kind of rambling story about his experience with teachers and either tried to steer him back on topic or make irrelevant and uninteresting comments. I really like this woman, though, because she just sat and listened and we got to hear his awesome perspective about the purpose of teaching and its relationship to the arts.
Thank you SO MUCH. I take these interviews really seriously and always want them to be CONVERSATIONS rather than Q&A. I can't tell you how much it means to me that my intentions come through and that you enjoy my interview style. xox
i love that she researchs the people she interviews so she has more to talk about other than hamilton. i also love how she doesn't just jump in while they're talking about subjects. hm i like her.
man, this interviewer was great. articulate, asked great questions, gave him time to talk and explain his thought process and say everything he wanted to say, and presented it all clearly, concisely, and in a relaxing, let's have a conversation way. What an inspiring, humble, truly intelligent and thought-provoking man. Many great quotes could be taken from this interview.
I accidentally zoned out for a solid 2 minutes even though I was trying really hard to pay attention because I fucking love his voice so much I was just listening to him ramble it's so calming
He's wonderful. Tony him up already please. He deserves it so much. I'd be happy for Chris to win it too. Even though I love Groff, the other two roles are more worthy.
the "actor in a featured role in a musical" category is such a heartbreaker anyway. I looove Jonathan Groff, and he was the reason I saw Hamilton initially (yes, i was lucky enough to see the show, in december 2015) but I must admit, however brilliant he was, that his 9-minute role looks a bit "light" compared to Daveed's double part. But I would also love it if Christopher Fitzgeral won for Waitress. Either one of these 3 guys would make my night. As for "best actor in a leading role in a musical", I'm rooting for Aaron Burr, sir. I think Lin-Manuel deserves best musical and best score, but in terms of performance, and voice, I like Leslie better. I also hope that Hamilton won't overshadow the other shows and win everything, because the others are also worthy. Even though I listen to the Hamilton album every single day of my life, i'd like to see other performers and shows win as well. Hamilton is successful enough already, and earned it.
It is adorable and almost annoying how he stutters like, he is such a bae and I love him! OMG. He can rap so fast tho, he does not get enough credit for guns and ships, he raps at an incredibly fast pace in a fucking french accent. HE IS AWESOME!
PiXeL Devil666 tbh it only took him ten minutes to learn guns and ships. He says the fast raps are the easiest ones. But those incredibly fast raps he does for clipping he does are just insane.
I had to go to the emergency room today , when I got back home I cried for a while then my mom walked in the room rushed to my computer and played this and TEARS OF JOY RAN DOWN MY FACE I LOVE DAVEED TO MUCH AND THIS HONESTLY MADE MY DAY THANKS MOM AND THANKS DAVEED
"Hopefully I can get a ticket in the next thirty years or so." This is the most relatable thing ever. I seriously just hope I can get a ticket before I die. XD
HAHAHAH I was trying to explain Hamilton to my husband and he was like "who's that" and I reenacted the Got Milk commercial to him. I love that that's the first thing that came to Daveed's mind.
This man is pure. Fantastic interview. I've watched several of these interviews with the Hamilton cast on the BUILD series, but this is by far my favorite. It's all Daveed. Also, I want his hat.
"maybe you can afford to live there Uh Hamilton" Daveed Diggs: Uhh that's a Misconception let's not get into that ((People laughed and took this as a joke but I think this was serious. The interviewer was assuming just because Daveed plays in Hamilton he's rich but then Daveed kindly says basically "Please let's not talk about that you don't know how my payment is let's not get into that and don't just assume I'm rich it's rude" that what I feel he meant)) when he said "It's a misconception lets not get into that" that's fuckin scary from him
Kashe628 they cast actually petitioned to get more because of the show’s success so the main cast ended up with $18,400 a week for their run, plus whatever fraction of a percent of profits they got.
Kashe628 but it took them a little bit to get the petition through so it would have been after this interview, which I’m sure is another reason he didn’t want to talk about it. It is a sore subject that the cast was actively fighting for due to the massive success of the show.
@@ishie0196 Still, he's not kidding when he says it's a misconception. The fraction of profits would be small, because with higher success comes things like a better theater, which is more expensive to rent, a better set (they didn't originally have the turning floors), and they still need a profit. People think they get paid like movie stars, and they don't. Once their run is over, they better have plans, cause 18K runs out fast in NYC.
He’s so humble and cute ❤️ And he grew up poor but he still felt like he had everything he needed to be happy. So nice and beautiful ❤️👏🏼 2020 people !!! Wow I’m so late but I still love him 😅

I have listened to ...ha hahaha... an astounding amount of Daveed Diggs interviews (and Rafael Casal interviews, and joint interviews, if we're being honest, because I adore them). It should be an embarrassing amount, but I feel no shame for this. This is by far the best interview of Daveed I have YET heard (and I'm still finding new ones) and this is the interview that has stuck with me since I first saw it. Not only for Daveed's, "I don't have a job? Okay. Awesome, I don't have to go anywhere today. That shit's dope." xD! But the energy of this interview, the Oakland love, which permeates everything Daveed and Rafa do, the love of the kids he teaches and touches and that have impacted him in turn. It's just, this interview was something special. And cements Laura as my favorite interviewer.
This is a remarkable interview. Love how the interviewer asked good questions and then just let him speak. We learned so much about up-and-coming Daveed in this interview like I haven’t seen in other interviews.
Such a humble man and I am glad to hear how the people from Hamilton are reaching out to the community and especially to students. What a unique and powerful opportunity!
+Nick Lopez tbh i think okieriete deserved it bc honestly on the cast album the difference between mulligan & madison - it's amazing, his portrayal AH. groff i love but not for 9 minutes on stage, man.
I honestly thought it should have gone to Anthony, especially after seeing the show. He is the youngest cast member with a pretty huge role and his voice and stage presence are amazing. I love JGroff, but I felt like Anthony and Oak were overlooked.
+Sage Matise YES! I absolutely love Groff, but Anthony's (who is phenomenal on stage he's a gem to watch) character is so vitally important to the story. Oak's transition from Mulligan to Madison is unreal. When you listen to the cast album, you would think it's a different guy. Don't even get me started on Jasmine not getting recognition, eventhough her characters don't get much lines the transition between the two and her voice in Say No To This is incredible. Groff had 3 songs in the same key so it's like one song cut into pieces. He's amazing at it but there is not much depth to his character.
Daveed's smile could literally cure cancer
Mariel De Lara anyone from the Hamilton casts smile could cure cancer let's be honest
wise little llama you really are a wise little llama
wise little llama Username checks out
And that's a fact!
If only 😌
He's so humble, omg. She goes, "You deserve it!" And he's just like, "I guess."
That's how Javier Munoz is too. So sweet! All of this cast are so wonderful.
"I grew up poor, not sad" I love that. Thats not usually what you hear but thats so beautiful
His laugh is a beautiful sound
And his little giggles. I grin every time. His happiness is so infectious
His laugh is so unique
I love his laugh so much! My favorite's the "you don't have the votes" laugh if my fellow Hamilfans know which one I mean
This is gonna sound offensive but I mean it in a cute way he kinda sounds like a sheep when he laughs
Man, the man is non-stop.
This is perfect. And Les Mis is next door.
Anna Hall lol
Anna Hall brilliant

I was just going to watch 10 minutes of this before bed.
Half an hour later...
20centuryfox100 that's a m o o d
ikr since i have school and work it took me 3 days
There are no words to describe Daveed. "Magnificent", "gorgeous", and "beautiful" don't do him justice.
Supercalifragalisticexpialadocious
reminder that he's never even really thought of Broadway as a career choice and won a Tony anyway.
man, the man is non stop.

Loool he stole her line “ and then my heart went” Daveed:”boom”
This interviewer is so refreshing,,,, I feel my soul being cleansed every time I watch an interview with her
thank you 💖💖💖 - Laura
DAVEED CONFIDENCE. you can TOTALLY agree that people listen to your music. PLEASE COME ON. Your humbleness is so cute but worries my soul
AOL BUILD please include the name of your interviewer. This young lady is a skilled interviewer.
He's wonderful. Tony him up already please. He deserves it so much. I'd be happy for Chris to win it too. Even though I love Groff, the other two roles are more worthy.
Groff is the Leonardo DiCaprio of the Tonys

Oh my gosh, if I could just spend an hour with Daveed that would literally, LITERALLY, be the best moment of my life. This woman was lucky.
Seriously Daveed Diggs is just amazing
"cause i dont expect anybody to listen to my music" THAT MADE ME SO SAD
"The only ones I know are the ones in Hamilton and I am not singin' Wait for it, cause Leslie's voice scares me to death."
"If you put in the time, you get good at it--direct correlation."
His last couple of lines were beautiful. "Happiness is hard, being good at something isn't."

I honestly debate it because the original cast is really pretty much gone.
I don't know if it's the microphone, but every time Daveed speaks it sounds like thousands of tiny bees buzzing and it's beautiful
