I'm a panel beater by trade and I have to say, some of these statements are very accurate.
I was an assessor with NRMA, brings back memories of some hilarious quoting practices !

I'll share a fairly common one that my old boss (who was ambidextrous) done was when someone needed 2 different quotes for insurance, he had to different quote pads, one with a fake shop and then the real one, he would write a ridiculously overpriced quote on the fake one with his left hand and then a not so obviously overpriced real quote with his right hand. He also added subtle differences like R/H/F and D/S/F so they never catch on. Usually this deception was so the customer could get a bit of extra work done but it wasn't beyond him to do this for some profit as well by quoting for brand new parts then getting aftermarket, SSS or wreckers.

Suggestion for future episodes.......... The annual family get together to make the home made pasta sauce, from the buying the tomatoes from the glasshouse using the Ute or trailer stacked with cases of tomatoes to the washing, peeling, putting through the tomato grinder/juicer to bottling and cooking in the copper pot. Everyone was involved from sun up to sundown including the kids. Ciao. Dominic

I smashed my HQ Monaro in the early 80's...when I went to check up on it the panel beaters were all at work and drinking VB at the same time. Even offered me one. That was very nice of them. When I got it back the paint on the bonnet had crows feet all over it. They also put chrome tape on an old rusty bumper bar which I only discovered after washing it a few times and it started to flake off. At least RACV fixed me up with a nice cheque after they came around and had a look, which I then spent on something else.

I remember my dad & uncles playing cards on the kitchen table, they’d get so involved & so passionate about the whole game, you’d hear them from half way down the street, my Aussies friends thought they were having a full on fight, I’d have to reassure them that they were just having a friendly game of Briscola. I did my 4 year apprenticeship in cabinet making working for a 60 year old maltese bloke. He gave me an education AND the funniest work stories which still make me laugh to this day!
