    At the 1955 RAI concert "Norma," Adalgisa was sung by Ebe Stignani, not by Giulietta Simionato. The latter did sing six months later with Callas at La Scala.

    Callas losing her voice wasn't due to the major weight loss, but rather a physiological one and her growing lack of practice for her voice (and the fact that she just lost her husband to another woman, so how can one truly recover from that?). Plus, up until 1955, Callas already had a 20+ year career, she really could've retired in the late 50's but she decided to continue singing, adding a new opera to her repertoire (Poliuto, 1960).
    She lost her desire to sing due to uncontrollable events in her life that surrounded her (due to a haunting press/media that dogged her out whenever they wanted to). She said it best "Truthfully, it is a hell of a price to pay" for being an Operatic diva and the first major celebrity of Opera.
    And unlike Deborah Voight after Callas did lose the weight, she still sounded like she did before she lost the weight (just her high notes got much easier to produce and the lower notes much more rounded, less barked and cavernous).
    Now Deborah Voight is a different case... She lost her weight by the staple. She did it artificially, and it left HORRIBLE results for her voice. She wasn't a dramatic soprano but, she was a full colored-spinto with the qualities of a dramatic (singing Brunnhilde like it was nothing). Her "Hojotoh!" was an amazing attribute that no one since Nilson could deliver. After 2009, the voice just collapsed as a result of her artificially losing the weight and not even supporting it well.

      tonshaad1230 Her lost weigh change her voice, in 1954in la forza studio recording her partner told about the difficulty that she has to manage that voice whit the same ferocity but in the new tiny body. She force to sing like in the past until 1958, every year a litle worse but 1959 after lucia in Dallas Callas inself said to her partener: mi career ends here.

    • @tonshaad1230
      @tonshaad1230 9 років тому +4

      Emiliano Ignacio Rodriguez She lost her voice only due to her losing control (she states this in the 1977 interview in Paris). It was NOT due to the weight lost, for which in that same interview, she describes HATING people who believes in that gaudy and idiotic rumor of hers. She lost the control of her vibrato and that's the ONLY thing hat cost her to have a change in her voice, the rest are nothing but big lies.

    • @TheEmicompu
      @TheEmicompu  9 років тому +4

      Im sorry, but if you listen like me every thing that she sang is evidently that until 1953 her voice was one and after other that loose streng year by years.

    • @tonshaad1230
      @tonshaad1230 9 років тому +3

      Emiliano Ignacio Rodriguez Well unfortunately, we do not share the same opinion as I just told you Maria Callas herself stated that what you ¨believe¨, is simply false and just a plain lie. Why even try to dispute with the woman who said it herself? Her voice if anything, had much better characterization from 1954 and onwards than she ever had in the earlier fatter days.

    • @TheEmicompu
      @TheEmicompu  9 років тому +6

      tonshaad1230 she said many things, not only what you said, for example after her fantastic sonnambula in 1955 she said to a partner "the end started". Dont tell me planied lies and thats terms, if you take the time to listen all work that she recorded and lives performance and you have a good ear and knowleg about sing you can recognize that im saing: until 1953 whit fat body has a voice, after that becames to loose streng and apogiatura but started to create fines way to interpret and act (but this is another cuestion). Is a lie sostain that her high c of 1953 is equal that 1954, the evidence of the records speak for them self. Whit nothing more to say and discuse, good bye!

  • @TheEmicompu
    @TheEmicompu  13 років тому +5

    Nooooo... after her weight lost. Before the begin of the end of her vocals chords like when she was fat. After sonnambula 1 month before, she told that the end was started.

    • @artdanks
      @artdanks 5 років тому +5

      @PolishViking Thank you!!! You seem to be the only voice of reason here, who understands that her vocal deterioration was due to her demanding schedule and repertoire, plus all the insane outside forces against her, such as the media. I also can't help think that the final "nail in the coffin" was her relationship with Onassis, whom she saw as an escape from the horrible world and life she had come to know. But I've always rejected that it had anything to do with her weight loss.
