Yoya Takahashi once dreamt of following in his grandfather’s footsteps and becoming an actor. These days, the Executive Sushi Chef of Hamasaku has realized a different Hollywood dream with starlets (and execs) coming in for power lunches at his sushi bar in a nondescript strip mall in West LA. Takahashi takes his “art” very seriously, but that hasn’t stopped him from experimenting with nontraditional ingredients-fish sperm sushi, anyone?

Munchies Loved it' One day I hope to have the $$ to be able to sit in front of a well known sushi chef and say to him "Ok Sir you are now in charge of my dining experience tonight" & give him all the control from telling me whether or not to use my hands when eating whatever he serves me to whether or not to dip in a sauce. I want that experience at least Once in my life before i move into heaven. I Love Sushi soooo much and everything there is to know about it.
jurassicsushi I totally agree with you. Where I live I can get OK sushi that I can afford or good sushi which I cannot afford, but I can't have great world class sushi and I hope I can have the opportunity to experience that once before I die. It's something magical happening in that simple combination with flavours that can grow into a feast in your mouth when made with skill and devotion.
jurassicsushi You can make your wish come true in Europe - Croatia, for 15 euro or arround 10 bucks :) It is a 1st class fish, and it is awesome ! So, if that happen 2 you, to travel in Europe, now you know where to stop 4 a lunch :)
gllo gle Japan too though it can range in price the fish is way more affordable there than any of the beef products of course. I want to go back so back just for the fresh fish. I live in LA so I can get to this place, but I find the fish they get around here still to be somewhat lacking and we don't nearly have the range of options that you can get in other parts of the world.
Fish sperm is not foreign to Japanese cuisine. It's called "soft roe" to them, and is a very common in their foods.
What a chill guy

This guy is fucking dope ! I would sit and talk to him the whole day .
right😂. "i like to go crazy all night" guys a badass
This guy is so cool and down to Earth I can't begin to describe it. Probably my number one priority if I ever visit LA would be to go see him and try his sushi. Best guy ever
+derbigpr500 That's a fairly good assumption to make if you are 12 years old. However I wonder what psychological analysis you keep up your sleeve for people who passive-aggressively attempt to insult others for saying somebody is "down to Earth".
Officially on my bucket list
his smily face tattoo is fuckign sick

I really enjoy how Munchies interviews these eccentric chefs and how these chefs are not afraid to display their loud personality. Made my day! Thank you Munchies!
I'm 0.9 Miles away from this place. Gotta try and visit this weekend and see this amazing guy. He Lives in Long Beach and works in LA. I live in LA and work in Long Beach. He must be driving in 110 or 101 to 405 freeway. That freeway is one of the worst in California. He must really love working in Hamasaku.
this guy is so chill, and yet focused and passionate
I've seen this sushi guy in that BuzzFeed cheap sushi video review...

That amber heard line aged like fine wine lmaoo
they actually use real wasabi roots. HEAVEN
Anita Zhang I think any Japanese place with respect for the food would use the real root and not that fake horseradish shit.
Tae Young Lee the real shit is hard to get and expensive as fuckin truffles
@@taeyounglee3380 That stuff has no shelf life
Tae Young Lee It’s all the same in the poop hole
This guy is an awesome personality, he is great. The sushi looked really tasty. Edit: More like this would be awesome, also another video with his guy if he would might also be awesome.

BeanyB0b same here
Mike Blitz lol is there a feud between munchies and buzzfeed?
***** No but Buzzfeed sucks compared to Vice's Munchies. Munchies isn't click bait crap it's authentic.

Eating at his place is not too bad as far as sushi goes. And its up there with the best of them. You just have to be in the LA area and make the trip.
I'm used to coming to the Munchies youtube channel for content and only recently discovered that videos go up on the Munchies website way before. For instance, I saw this sushi video already last week. Just a tip for anyone fiending for more food videos.
True, i saw this vid last week already
Appreciate it!
Always fun to see someone who's right where they want to be. For this Chef, doing sushi in L.A. is his happy place. The both beautiful and interesting food is the result. Keep sharing these talented video's. Blessings ChefMike.
Munchies and Vice are about the 2 greatest things on youtube.
How him and his co workers act around each other is what makes that business thrive.
He has that OG Japanese look.
This chef is a funny guy,I have watched his video before.
I like the way he is thinking, acting, try to adapt and create new things.
Everyone needs to be like these people. Always positive, making a good thing out of a bad situation. Hate all the negativity now-a-days
He's one of the most wholesome man I have ever seen. I came to the video because of the title, but I stuck around because of his personality. What a wonderful man and I hope he's having a nice day every day.
What a fantastic man.
Keep up the great work, Mr. Takahashi.
His story just makes me wanna cry from joy :')
he needs a chef night out!
He's such a passionate, awesome guy! Definitely will visit the restaurant when I go to LA for the summer!
Dude is super genuine, mad cool, would consider flying out just to sample some rolls.
What an amazing person, I love it when people are so passionate about their jobs.

Sushi Chef Reviews Cheap Sushi
This guy has an awesome personality!! Customer service 10/10 food 10/10 , food looks delicious!!
A man who do his job happily.
Popescu Rene He's also more kinda robotic, in a good way, very serious bout his craft. Yoya seems more like a chill dude tho lol
Popescu Rene yeah both ppl r really good, Jiro is more traditionalistic while Yoya is more modern, mixing different cultures and adding a twist to his work
This man's happiness for what he loves to do just made my entire day.
yo this dude is so dope!
Uchiha Sasuke go back to the hidden leaf village
love his passion for his work. ...
If I ever go to Los Angeles I'm meeting this man. I wish New York had men with character like that.
He seems like a genuine and super friendly person.
The way he says "shark hearts" is so cute 😊
shaq hat
This guy has a view that's really cool. The sushi stage thing, and the fact that he doesnt compare himself to other sushi guys. All that matter is if the customers like him lol
I wonder if he still wants Amber Heard to come to his restaurant lmfao
Good idea to have sushi chef episode in this channel. I love it!
and here i thought they imported some bad ass sushi chef from japan who started his training at the age of 13 after growing up in an orphanage, after being trained as a sushi chef for 10 years in japan with a super strikt sensei, he found out that he has a lost sister but she has cancer and he tries to pay for her surgery but fails, being lost and feeling remorse of not being able to save her he decides to go to america on a whim and makes american sushi great (again)
uetzel come on xD
uetzel I think you need to get out more
I love this guy's personality!
He was in buzzzfeed's vid. Tell me if I'm wrong.
LeShedd I'm pretty sure he was

Him and bronson are equal on the kick-ass personality charts haha!
Great episode!
That chef is awesome

This guy turn a boring sushi into a beautiful art. I want to go there now
I like this guy, he has a passion for what he does and has pride in his work. You have to respect that.
This guy is the coolest guy I see on the internet
This guy knows his shit. Props to him for keeping it real.
i need to party with this guy
I cried. This man is beautiful.
Protect this guy at all costs.
Good fish, good attitude, as well as having the knowledge, and respect for the ingredients. You have my respect. :)
This is very inspirational, and very interesting.
Don't you just love how Yoya can use the word 'life' in just 2 or 3 sentences and it just makes sense
I went to Hamasuku 2 weeks ago and had no idea that this was the guy behind the food. There was no way I could bring myself to order the fish sperm though.
well you have probably eaten fish roe at a sushi restaurant i assume? that's just unfertilised fish eggs. Not much less disgusting than fish sperm right?
In the Netherlands sushi blew up the last couple of years. So many people that never had sushi before now love it.
I think his dream may have changed now
I think it's amazing that people from other parts of the world can feel more at home somewhere else than their original home. It tells you that everyone is not so different. :)
He was on buzzfeed !
ikr
Was glad the feast mansion was on my recommendation, to be specific, the episode where he is the guest chef with joji and rich brian. What a cool, fun and charismatic chef!!
That intro aged poorly
Great. This is the spririt of cooking and serving food!
I was like "Aww, what a nice guy!"
Then I realized the smiley face was tattooed on... O.O
Wulfy What's wrong with tattoos?
Dr.Pepper is Life I don't mind tattoo's. It's just wierd when they're smiley faces that you show and brag about to people.
Wulfy
Wtf dude? So because he have a tattoo he's suddenly a bad guy?
What a kind and chill person, wow!
"taste his sushi" wink wink
The happiness of the Chef is reflected through it's creations ;)
LOL I want a smiley face tattoo now
So humble love this guy.. I don't eat raw sushi but love the way how they make it
