Great to see. Tires make the BIGGEST difference above anything. A good set of track tires will make all the difference. Great to see you enjoying the car. If you want a more oversteer then understeer, get a bigger rear sway bar and smaller front one, of when i used to track, id disconnect my front sway bar (fwd). It's a lot of fun doing track/autocross days. btw inspections in Sweden are every year? Yikes, they really want ur money lol.
Yes, tires definitely makes a huge difference! I thought about getting a rear sway bar, but the car actually rotates quite good and you get lift of oversteer if you let go of the throttle in cornes, just because it's so light in the rear. As someone mentioned, we need to inspect our cars every 14 months if it's newer than 30 years old.
Thank you! Yes, I'll definitely do that, especially if I put on gripier tires on. However, the car feels really flat and planted around the corners. I think the head mounted gopro footage gives the illusion of the car having more body roll than it actually has, since I lean my head into the corners.
Observation: The metal sheet you took out of the front will dramatically increase the pressure in front of the radiator, causing increased flow of air through the radiator. By taking it out, that air can bypass the radiator and just skip around it. It would be interesting to see coolant temperatures logged with that plate fitted and then without.
Also, having direct air contact only on one side of the engine i don't think i'ts beneficial, the other side is quite hot. Making the diference of temperature bigger wouldn´t be a desirable side effect. Adding up, temperautre messured from outside the block doesn´t really matter on a water cooled engine.
Yeah that baffle plate is supposed to help with cooling. It's common for people to remove it but it worsens radiator performance . If you want to get heat out of the engine bay, perhaps exit vents near the back of the bonnet/hood will be better.
Interesting. Thank you for the input, I didn't think about that aspect honestly. I'll definitely look in to that and put the plate back on if it helps with cooling.
Being the owner of a Nissan primera p11 mark 2 ( the big sister of your micra k11 I would say) you made me fall in love with the micra 😍. My primera has a lot of problems that made her undrivable and I’m highly considering switching to a micra k11 1.4L. Thank you and GG for your build !
Who can say that they can prepare a small car for racetrack, then packing everything needed for track day in said car and having the race track just one hour of drive - that is perfect conditions imho. Deffinitely kudos to you, for building this thing yourself.
You can try playing with the brake bias, or rear spring rates, make the car more tail happy, maybe you will get faster lap times. Although the track is actually quite wide, still, would be interesting to see.
Just a few tips, your hands are all over the wheel just leave them at 3 and 9. That way if you lift off the gas hard and the car goes sideways you always know where your wheels are pointing. Moving your hands around the wheel is only confusing you. You did in fairness have one hand as a reference. Talking of lift off oversteer go round a roundabout on the limit and play with lifting off to get a feel for it. (Just get on the gas this stops the oversteer instantly) One part of the video you came off the gas fast and the car did go very sideways. If you came off slower this wouldn’t have happened. Once you have mastered lift off oversteer you can use it for some really big slides and if you ever come too fast into a corner you can flick it in with a lift so you can lose speed, having the car pointing where you want to go. The K11 is a great balanced car so lift off oversteer comes as standard. I have driven one and loved it. Use your heat gun on the tyres… If it's a clockwise track the left tyre will be hating life if you're getting more understeer on the right handers than last lap this is due to exceeding the working temp of the tyre. Come in, get a heat reading and let the tyre cool. You don’t want to do laps of understeer. With a FWD car you lose about 10 - 30% power with the steering lock on this is used by the CV joints also it damages your CV joints. So the sooner you get the lock off the sooner you're using all your power. Try this next time you will be amazed by the difference in lap times. Get that lock off ASAP.. Having a set of driveshafts for a track day is also advisable. If the car is pushing on do not ask more of the front tyres by putting more lock on. If they were skidding with 15 deg locks they would be skidding to hell with 30 degs on. At that point you can control the car with the throttle lifting off the gas tightens radius. Driving front wheel drive is all about driving on the throttle not the steering wheel. Watch every one of their videos. www.youtube.com/@CamberandCombustion
In the states we have a nissan versa from 2008 to 2010 that is a 1.6 manual without AC or sound system and manual everything came out only for a few years and not many people bought it. That car sitting is under 2400 pounds. And you can increase power by 20 percent with not much. Easy to work on too. They have a 1.8 manual but thats closer to 2800 pounds. Those 400 pounds make a huge difference. I have one and is like driving a go cart.
Nangkang NS2-R semi-slicks with the softer compound are a great budget track tyre. Had them on my 205 GTI which was definetly faster than this car and they still performed great 😁
@@ejoautovideos I would love to, but I have no experience in video editing. In addition to that, since I‘m from Germany, my english is not that great 😅
Wonderful video, for the brakes I could advise you to mount the discs and darts of the nissan almera or sunny n14 1.4 which are ventilated, if you also put the air intakes from the bumper it is obviously even better. I have a couple of curiosities, how long does it take to do 0-100km/h? How much did you spend on modifications? How much would you like to sell it?
Thank you! Yes a brake upgrade might be something for the future ;) I haven't measured 0-100 yet on the new setup, however 20-70 it accelerates 45% faster than stock, which is pretty mind blowing considering I haven't done any engine modifications except an intake. The better acceleration times comes from; short ratio gearbox from an 1.0, weigt reduction, smaller wheels and lower rotational mass. I actually don't know exactly how much I've spent on mods, maybe ~ 3000 euros on mods and 1000 euros on spare parts and maintanence.
Looks excellent fun. One observation - try to be smooth (and less snappy) with the steering inputs. I'll be less likely to get unsettled and should help with the understeer. Jackie Stewart (when coaching James May) said to treat the car like it's a dangerous dog, and move slowly and purposefully; any sudden movements and you'll be bitten!
Loved this build, used to have a K11 Micra about ten years ago and though it was completely stock I would treat it like a rally car when I lived in Asia. Very nimble and so much fun. Will you consider replacing any of the windows with polycarbonate? There is probably another 15-20kg you could save, and it will come from the top of the vehicle (but I don't know what the rules are in Sweden, for roads and track).
@@Secretlyanothername absolutely👍 I've been using it a lot during the summer and just enjoying it, thus the lack of content on it recently. But I have some stuff in stored for it that I'm saving up for a video. 😁
Looks great. How wide are the alloy wheels, they fit nicely. And is the engine standard performance or is it modified? I see the intake has been replaced.
You should defenitely replace the stock exhaust manifold with proper headers since changing the exhaust manifold is the most important performance mod you can do to a K11 micra. The stock one is so bad that even with cheap homemade 4-1 or 4-2-1 headers you can increase the power output of a 1.4 engine by around 15%. And no other modifications are needed to achieve this power increase.
Hi This small car looks great! :) Can you tell me what's exact rims and tires size? Those fits perfectly. Did you have to make any body adjustments to avoid any rub? Thanks and congratulation!
My friend, who is a really good driver drove both cars and he actually got a couple of tenths better times in the Micra! :D But I think that's mostly due to the fact that the gti had old and worn out tires.
I dude I follow as a mentor said that expensive tires hide mistakes, and it's better to learn to drive with shitty tires first because they will make a faster driver in the long run, but awesome video dude
