The K11 Micra was the next best thing to an old Mini, Ive had both, Passed my test in a Micra in the 90's and also had one as a cheap runabout up until a couple of months ago when the rust finally got it. It even survived being hit by an SUV in a hit and run with only relatively minor repairs. good tough little cars.
@@mototommy5525 I have one right now with miracle spec, so aircon and elektric windows. I sold my e46 328ci for it and I'm not going back. It's costs me less than a third to drive each month and because it is literally HALF the weight it's actually more fun and nearly has the same power to weight ratio. The bmw only looked a lot better, that's all.
I had a 2000 5 door 1.3 Micra se, best car I've ever had. £350, solid and reliable, so much fun to drive. I wish I never sold it to my partner because she then sold it on to someone else
Like you said, good memories from the K11. My dad drove one when I was born, even with two kids for a while even. Went on roadtrips and what not. It always appealed to me being a Japanese nugget. I might own a K11 at some point, but I wouldn't go for a GT-R Nismo. For all the money spend on that one car, why not have fun with shitboxes, while still having a variety of other cars for different occasions. Between the two, it has to be the K11.
the Micra has almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution like the almera. hence in the wet you can slide it without any dramas. but you do need to push it hard.. However when you get used to it you can out corner most cars.
Nice comparison - I bought a Micra in lockdown (E46 M3 was in bits) to thrash for a few weeks. 2024 it’s still part of the family, many mods later and still easier to drive at 100% than the Beemer ever was
My first car was the 98 Nissan Micra GX, had eletric windows and sun roof as a bonus. But even though i knew it didnt have much power was so fun to drive. I driven newer more power cars and had fun but still the fun that low powered engine gave is something special to me.
I'm afraid Matt's right. Especially if you fit the GizFab supercharger kit, the K11 is probably the closest thing to a Mini replacement you can get. Apart from an actual new Mini of course.
I just bought a 1987 Nissan micra k10. Its soooo much fun. Its comfortable, not to slow it really keeps up with a 125hp nissan sunny gti. Its just great. Has enough space and a huge front spoiler and a super s bodykit. Looks amazing
You don't wanna know how long I've waited for a video like this, I think I've commented to every carchannel I watch to try a 100nx or a Micra. The Micra (k11) is the best car ive ever owned, bought it for 430€ raised it on Lexus springs , did 30.000km in it, and then sold it because my project car was finished. I loved it so much that it took me 2 months to buy a Micra again, this time a k10. I had the 1.4 k11 facelift, floored it on a cold engine, always, everywhere, drove it off-road a bunch, carried more then double the allowed weight on the roof and in the car. It just did never break. That car is the best I ever owned and it was even the cheapest
recently I purchased a nissan micra k11, with air conditioning, power steering and more options, the car is from 1997 and it has 55 horsepower, with only 125.000 km, absolutely fun car to drive, easy to park and very cheap to drive, 20 euros of petrol last long
I ran a k11 micra as a daily alongside my mclaren and loved it. You cant beat revving a car out to the max and driving it to its limits, all within the speed limit. If you love driving and are man enough (or woman enough) to drive one and not care what others think then you are in for a treat. I would 100% have one over and RS4 / RS6 as a daily driver. Its, max revs, tyre squealing, fun all the time 😊
The most fun car I've had was a 45bhp Peugeot 205. No power, 4speed box and epic body roll, but on a bumpy winding back road, it skipped and floated along always at full revs. Big, fast cars just gave up in fear of scratching the paint or smashing an alloy. Probably not so good on a race track though.
Prior to my current K11, an E34 525 has been my favorite car I've owned. But then the K11 came along, and honestly, I can't imagine myself ever getting rid of it It may be slow asf, but it's so darn charming
Got to agree with “driving a slow car fast” is more involving than the other way round. My best drive was Edinburgh to Fort William via Stirling in …… 1.2 Corsa Comfort. Getting the best out that little shit box, on my own, in the early evening on dry roads, was spectacular. And my current daily is……. V10 RS 6……
That's a great mint review there CarThrottle. I have the similar L reg 1994 1.3 SLX highly modified Micra, same colour, & at one point it was turboed upto 163hp. My next door neighbour also has a black R35 GTR 😎🙌
The engine in the Micra is a twin-cam 16v for every single car, regardless of the model. It wasn't a performance engine by any means, but it was extremely smooth and reliable. Compare it to the similar engines offered in the basic Fiesta, Corsa, Polo, Cinquecento, Clio, Saxo....etc. I remember working for VW in the 90s, and they still made a Polo with a 4-speed gearbox upto 1993!
God this brings back memories of my old Silver K11 - First car. Loved it! So fun to throw around, and everyone thought you were sad driving a Micra, but you would beat a standard 1l Saxo off the line due to the Micra having 16v instead of 8v which a lot of small 1st cars had. Was great 😊. Oh yeh, junction burnouts was a must 😅
Of all the cars I've owned (I currently own an Elise as my 2nd car). One of the ones I miss the most is the 75hp MK2 Renault Twingo I had a few years ago.
We've owned a K13 Micra as a runabout for the last four years. Micra's are excellent. It'll go from Dover to Manchester faster than EVERY electric car. It owes us nothing and thrives on neglect.
I love the micra. soo much fun in a wet carpark 😂 the micra was my last car I had. cover the hole in the dizzy cap and they got unlimited revs lol. Even tho its slow its a awesome little car. Now I got a r50 mini
You can't beat a Micra, Great car's, I'm on my 4th K11, now, Looking forward to giving the K12, a go' K11, hard to find in reasonable condition these days,😢
Call me mad I’d go for the k11, although I’d want the 1.3. Like you say on the road it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. Also an early k11 you can lift off oversteer really easy and you can hold the slide in the perfect line using the throttle to pull the nose back out

I loved my K11. Never drove it sensibly, I'd have twats that would be itching to overtake just because it's a 'micra' but did I make it difficult for them😆, didn't brake for ANY corners.
