Ooooo Miri tourist spots are actually outside miri - Gua Niah, Mulu Caves. Sea horse actually represent that the coral around 3km out you will find some sea horses there i've been told by fellow divers. You want to know why the beaches are quiet? The reason is actually in the last 20 years, salt water crocodiles started to appear in the seas and are close to shore and some actually swam all the way to the oil rigs. So we are having a hard time adjusting to these crocodiles cause when i was a child you would never see any in the seas. A lot of the culture fishing the small shrimps in the beaches are gone cause everyone is afraid of the crocodiles.
Welcome to Miri City👌if u still in Miri,u must try local Orang ulu Delicacy. It’s call Busang Jalini Cafe.About 30 minutes drive at least from Miri city ctr.Ok do enjoy Miri🍷
2 types of rojak...the one you had was fruit rojak .....basically cut fruits....as mentioned, cucumber, pineapple, young mango, guava, sweet turnip, rose apple..etc...eaten with some kind of sweetened soy sauce and peanuts... The other rojak is called mamak rojak...often an find it at mamak restaurant....cucumber ,sweet turnip, taufo, boiled eggs,,potatoes, prawn fritters,noodles...etc...with thick sauce made of sweet potatoes ..
I think its a very good take, rather than googling about miri but talking with local instead. Although malaysian normally doesn't ask questions a lot, but its a good take to see different2 views. Ps:this video was taken on friday, friday and Saturday is weekend for some bruneian, while Sarawakian on Saturday and sunday. So dats why alot of bruneian in miri on friday
It's usually "empty" because most of the locals are still working on Friday, some even working on Saturday too until 12pm. The crowds are always in weekends evening time.
Bro, while you are in Miri Go visit Niah caves if you have time .. and def go check out the grand old lady and there’s a food stall up which makes awesome food .. kway teow, rojak, goreng pisang and fresh sweet coconut water
Bro! if you wanted to try sarawak food in Miri, theres Kolok noodles you should try there and I highly recommend Kak Lulu's cause their koloks and laksa taste exactly like the Chinese version but Halal

Hi Myer, thanks for making video about Miri, Sarawak! I think one good thing about Sarawak is, everyone regardless of any races, we all live peacefully and harmony in this small little city! Everyone is friends! Some of the halal food you can try including Ayam Penyet, Mee Kolok, Laksa Sarawak, Mee Jawa, Nasi Lemak, Kek Lapis Sarawak, Kuih-Muih (traditional snack), Rojak, Sayur Midin, Sayur Pucuk Paku, and many more! One drink you can also try is Three Layered Milk Tea. This is popular in Sarawak! One place you have to visit in Miri is actually the Grand Old Lady. It is Miri's first drilled oil well which took place in the year of 1910 by Shell Company. It is located at Canada Hill, overlooking the whole Miri City! 😊 I would like to apologise on behalf of Mirian because some people might not be "friendly" when you approached them, perhaps it's not very common for people in Miri to be approached by anyone with a camera in hand, unlike bigger cities in Malaysia. 😅 But we are in fact, very friendly! Continue to approach any of us in Miri, or anyone in Sarawak! Hope you would enjoy your stay here! 😊
Usually Brunaien come to Miri on Thursday....Miri is also rich with Petroleum and the first oil exploration in South East Asia is in Miri...Sea Horse is a symbol of Oil production in Miri
Yes, coz Friday & Saturday is non working days for Brunei. Last time quite many of Miri people not so happy about the visit of Bruneian mostly is because with the purchase power of Bruneian, it makes Miri living cost is the highest among whole Sarawak, and that time quite some of the driver of Brunei is quite rude on the road, but this condition is become better and better nearly these year, and we also have met many friendly Bruneian, so I think quite many of us also welcome their visiting, like you said, they also contribute to our economy. So when there’s weekend, we just try to avoid go to the city centre, because the traffic could be quite jam for some of the main road.
Hey Myers, every division (equivalent to a county in the States here) in Sarawak has a monument. Miri has that seahorse. Kuching - cat (Kuching means Cat in Malay); Sri Aman - dove ....etc...there are many divisions and districts (sub-division) - I cannot remember all of it. Sub-division such as Serian district has the durian monument and Sarekei - the pineapple. There has been a lot of changes since I left Sarawak.
Welcome to miri sarawak, east malaysia, i myself not sure why the sea water choc. In colour but not the same at other beach, like tusan beach, the water blue in colour.

Hi Myer! Glad you had met some good samaritans in Miri. Im a Mirian myself, how I wish Ive met you in person while your visits in Miri. You went to the beach in Marina Park during your visit, however it is not one of the most visited beach in Miri as it is not a natural beach. Actually fun fact is, the whole Marina Commercial Centre is a man-made land, this includes until the end of Coco Cabana. Thats why the Marina Beach is quite a dirty beach, it is mainly because the trashes from the ocean trapped at the beach. We do have some Non-Governmental Organisation and volunteers will go and clean the beach occasionally. The beach will still get dirty from time to time. Worry not, we still have good volunteers and samaritans who will occasionally clean the beach. Marina Park are normally crowded during the weekends, Friday past 5pm, Saturday & Sunday. The most visited beaches in Miri are The Luak Esplanade Beach and Tanjung Lobang Beach. Around 40mins drive from Miri, there is another famous beach, Bungai Beach. Youve met a Bruneian lady at the Coco Cabana who claimed there are some Sarawakian/ Mirian who dislikes being visited by Bruneians. Actually its just personal perspectives, there are some people who dislikes the Bruneian because some Bruneian who visited Miri doesnt behave at their best, for example, not a good driver, or not a good shopper. Not all but some, because there are also Mirian who bought Brunei registered vehicles. Among the other reason are because there are alot of Bruneian visitors, the prices of the things and food in Miri are getting pricey for the local as they are cheaper for Bruneians. So, the things like this are among the reason why some of the local is not a fan of the Bruneian visitors. As I said, only some ppl feels that way, not all and vice versa. Miri is an oil town, the first oil town in Malaysia in fact. We have diverse cultures sadly there are limited choice of cuisine for Muslim as most of the Org Ulu Cuisines and Dayak Cuisines are non halal, or prepared by non muslim. There are also more places to visit in Miri, you just need a local to assist you next time during your visit in Miri. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your stay in Miri and will come back again anytime.
To me Miri isn't a tourist-friendly city because they lack on many things for tourists attractions in the city unless you went all the way out to the country side where the real deal is at. The water used to be crystal clear and turquoise before the artificial island was reclaimed to make way for the Marina.
