That's what any hobby is all about: adding prized possessions to your collection, and bringing joy.
The smile on your face says that it's an item that will be cherished for many years to come. Great addition, Mike.
Also, special mention to those who sent you some wonderful items. What a great community indeed!
As always, thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks John!
That’s the one I commented them about to see where it was on eBay so I could snag it. Mike or Chris commented back it was already sold. Glad to know it was you that got it, don’t feel like I lost out so much
Thank you!!
Paige - One of the "Gods" of pitching.....IF THERE EVER needed to be made a movie....they absolutely need to make one ABOUT PAIGE... Hey Ken Burns - you paying attention? Make a documentary about this man...and THIS MAN ALONE! Yes - you covered him quite a bit in your 9 inning doc....and we appreciate that...but Paige deserves MORE.
Never feel bad about putting an offer on a card. That’s hard earnednet your offering and most dealers respect a reasonable offer on their cards even if they can’t except it. Sometimes auction prices do not reflect the true value of a card and offers can help the seller better gauge the market.
A great example is my 2008 Topps Update Chrome Clayton Kershaw in a PSA 10. I have a good friend who keeps offering me $2,000 for it. That was the price of the last “10” that sold….in 2020. Although a very respectable offer, 10’s haven’t sold in 4 years and I think the cards worth much more.
That’s a beautiful card that, in reality, should grade higher but, because of a mark, gets a low grade. Great buy on a very desirable card!!
So happy you landed this iconic card and how and who from. Mike and I discussed this on my latest video and his approach to moving these amazing items to Collector friends is so great for the hobby.
Thanks Dan!
Wow that was a good deal you got on that satchel Paige after looking it up that 2 you got is way better than anything on ebay as a 2. Congratulations on your journey to more higher end cards.
Thanks Michael!
Wow!!!! Great card. If you would have passed on that card because it was $25 dollars higher than your budget, you would have regretted it for a long time. Wise decision. Hopefully some day I can pick one up. Congrats.
Agreed. Thanks!!
Amazing pickup! Congratulations! That Paige is a foundational piece for ANY collection. LOVE the art on that card!
That’s a GREAT Bagwell Gallery of Stars auto! LOVE that Dick Perez artwork! That run with the “ROY ‘91” inscription came authenticated from Brooks Robinson’s company “Treat Pro”. That also makes us card buddies!
Nice! Thanks
To The Quick Go The Spoils … Congrats- you shoot and you score my man ! Also as an
Olden Times Person I like to hear a young person use the word budget ! Bully , bully for you ! ( I have never used the word bully. I’m not sure where that came from. Maybe I just channeled my grandpa. He was born in 1902. ) 😂
lol thanks. Haven’t used a credit card in many years. Budget is critical!
I am blown away by your Satch, and the price you got it for. The only thing wrong with that card is on the reverse, and it's not even all that bad! In fact that print mark is a godsend, because it drives the grade down two or htree points to the region where you can afford it (I agree with Chris on the 5 estimate or even higher, but unlike you and him I haven't held it in my hand).
I have this card in PSA 4 (paid $1258) and PSA 3 (paid $904 now for sale) and neither of them looks as good as your PSA 2, which I have seen up close in your newsletter. Despite having two copies already, I would have paid Chris his $750 without hesitation lest someone else get it first, and sold my others. It's that good on the front. You got the buddy discount - and in the nick of time, it sounds like. It pays to have connections in this hobby!👍
Well said. Thanks!
Congrats on the Satch, Mike! Beautiful card. Looks pretty good for a ''2.'' But I don't understand graders and grading. I didn't want to comment until after the Celtics game, and they got the W! A great first game for what should be a fun series.
Thanks Andrew! That game was a nail-biter.
A very cool card. On a side note I know you don't have much time to watch UA-cam anymore, but listen to Chris on Beckett's channel. You can hear the subtext of how everybody feels in Dr James words. Essentially the subtext is it was the hobby leader when I sold it & ownership ran it into the ground. Of course Jim is too wise to say that directly, but a wise person can hear the subtext.
Oh yes, I’ve heard him talk about it. It’s quite clear.
huge congrats! 53 Satch is one of the greatest cards visually IMO, my favorite vintage player too :-). Very well done Mike
Thanks a bunch!
Dang that’s a great looking Paige card!!!! Love that Mike worked with you, that’s what it’s all about! Congrats Mike!
Thanks Theo!
Just think, you could have spent that money on bowman chrome autograph of a hot prospect instead. Or even bought a bunch of scratch off lottery tickets. Just kidding, amazing card.
lol next time
Nice 53 Satch. Such a great card. I have one in a bit lower grade. Im happy I bought it before the prices went crazy. Congrats. Your card looks fantastic!
Thank you!
beautiful Satch just picked mine up in December! displayed center row next to my 53 Jackie!
Beautiful set!
Gorgeous Paige!! Always wanted one
You should!
There's nothing like getting a big doozy of a card you've wanted for a long time! 🤠
Congrats! Stunning addition for your collection. And nice autos!
Thank you!
Great pickup. Congrats on a great card . I did know this was coming . Really happy for you.
Thanks Mark!
Stunning card, Mike. Fantastic price. How can I be so happy for you and jealous at the same time? 🤩
Haha thanks! That’s perfect
Congrats, Mike. An aspirational purchase. Well done.
Yes! Thank you Karl!
Very cool
Congratulations Mike!! Great pickup of a legend!!
Thanks Jim!
Congratulations on the beautiful Paige card. Awesome addition to your collection. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much, Orlando!
Congrats Mike. Gorgeous card. So special to have a playing days Satchel. I have an SGC 1, it's one of the top 5 cards in my collection for sure.
Awesome!
Both amazing cards. The Williams is just gorgeous
They are!
Great buy!
Thanks Pepino!
Beautiful 2, my kind of card, congrats
Thank you!
That is a beauty of a Satchel! Now with that little stain on the back and say it was a PSA 5 without it, would you rather a PSA 5 (ST) or its current grade?
Typically a qualifier is -2.. but hypothetical.
Thanks Brian! I’d take a 5ST over a 2, but a 2 over a 4ST
@@JunkWaxHero you’re welcome, and I agree. Glad you needed them!
Very cool. Love the Brownie logo. Congratulations.
Thank you!
SWEEET pickup! I picked up a buck Leonard signed hof plaque this week, to add to the hof/negro league collection.
Congrats!!
Congratulations, Mike. It's a great card.
Thanks a bunch!
1) I'm so envious of that Paige! You need to go back and thank Sewell again. I just looked at 2 PSA 2's on eBay that went for $550 and $588. There is no comparison. With the eye appeal of yours, I'll bet it would have hit close to $900 if it went out on ebay.
2) I also saw a PSA 2(MK) that went for $510. That being said, I wonder why the card didn't come back PSA 4 or 5 with the MK (mark) qualifier? Any thoughts on that? PSA 5's are bringing between $1400-$1500 on eBay.
Thank you and good questions! I’m not that knowledgeable on qualifiers, but I believe PSA does it less and less now. And even if it had come back a 4 MK, Chris says that values it at a 2. Subtract 2 grades, he says.
I mentioned those two comps in the video… my theory was that they’d be avoiding the fees. I did get it for a nice deal though, for sure.
@@JunkWaxHero Thank you but I'm not sure about Sewell's assessment. Two PSA 2's sold for $550 and $588. A PSA 2(MK) sold for $510. I fail to see how a PSA 4(MK) would sell for what these did. (I had to look up the MK designation. I did not know that off the top of my head). So, here's the tough question. Would you rather have it as is or would you rather have it a 4(MK)?
@@in2rock275 I’m not a fan of the qualifiers, so I’d take a 2
So happy you got such a iconic card! Most of us honestly believe stuff like that is beyond our reach! I honestly believe many card are missed out on because we haven't done our homework!
Most iconic vintage cards are way cheaper in low grade than people realize. More on this soon 😃
When do you go to work and where do you live asking for a couple of friends of mine
lol
That’s sick, Mike!! 🔥 congrats on a MASSIVE pickup! 🎉
Thanks Sam!!
@@JunkWaxHero you’re welcome!
Congrats, awesome pickup!!!
Thank you!
Congrats on the Paige! On my wish list someday.
Thanks Doug! Good luck!
Love to see your passion for that card my friend! So happy for you
Thanks so much, Warren!
Grail cards baby!!
Boom!
Awesome Page card. I really did like the Bagwell auto too.
Cool, thanks!
Congrats on one of the most iconic cards in the hobby!
Thanks Sammy!
Awesome card!
I would never be worried about insulting Mike... i watched the video where he goes over how he makes offers. I can't imagine the amount of people he's insulted.
Congrats, Mike! Fantastic card.
Thanks!
Such a great card! Congratulations!
Thank you!
Tiger is so happy for you he's standing on his head 😂
I knowwwwww ugh
Stunning card
Beautiful copy of a great card Mike
Thanks Adam!
congrats Mike, that Paige is gorgeous!
Thanks Jason!
Excellent card. Nice pickup.
Thanks!
What a great card, congratulations!
Thanks so much!
Very cool card! He was 46 years old in 1952. Crazy. Get his 1949 Bowman next! 🙂
Heck yeah! It's a Beaut Clark!

Congrats! Very nice acquisition!
Yes! Thank you!

Beautiful card and great price! Well done! I actually really like the Bagwell too! (P.S. Your wife strikes again - Poor Tiger!)
Thanks Brent! I noticed the Tiger after posting it and she laughed and laughed.
Love that Paige. I’m looking to get this card at some point. Great example for sure. Congrats. What’s going on with tiger in the background. That card on time out! 😂
lol my wife got me again
Strong 2. Look at that front centering!!!
Yesss
That Satchel is my grail too.
Low grade is where it’s at! Good luck!
@@JunkWaxHero yep totally agree. Looking for decent looking 1 or 2.
Hi Mike. Congrats on the Paige cards, it's a beauty and you guys worked out a great deal on both ends. Looking forward to when you roll out your new show.
Thanks Jim! I can’t wait!
😍😍
Yes!
@@JunkWaxHero sometimes the less I type the better. The Paige speaks for itself.
isnt Satchel Paige a bit over rated??
lol what?
Agreed. Not even a top 10 all time pitcher. He’s kind of like Jackie Robinson or Clemente or Mantle. The hobby is sheepish.
I do like the card and the channel, just can’t consider him one of the top players like everyone says. Jackie is even worse
@@JenniferMedina-bg1zb Jennifer, you should have a channel. And teach us sheep. Of course, I disagree with your opinion, but respect it as usual.
@@ACD1994 It’s not, “my”, opinion. 99% of educated baseball fans would agree that Satchel Paige is not in the top 10 all time. And probably not even in the top 20. The top all time pitchers are guys like Cy Young, Warren Spahn, Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Walter Johnson, Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton, Lefty Grove, Bob Feller, Gaylord Perry, Christy Mathewson, Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson, etc.
Lyman Bostick Rookie with the Chicago White Sox is twice more valuable than that card. I just saw one sell with the p s a d n a authentication Autograph sell for 2 million
