I know the feel, we had to tryhard until we finally beat the boss. With warrior it was fun playing an alarm bot deck and for some class i had to abuse the kel'thuzad + taunt exploit. For shaman i used an evolved deck since i his hero card it was also fun to play.
Druid and priest were easy even back then since priest suffers no actual penalty and Druid can just win with Jade. Druid can even innervate out Lorewalker Cho and steal his cheat card.
0:58 Here's a detail: the Lich King ALWAYS plays Frostmourne when he has 7 mana or more. The card he draws when he's at 7 mana or more gets automatically transformed into Frostmourne, which means if you play cards like Biology Project, he'll play Frostmourne even earlier. There's a channel called Met Demon that did really funky stuff with the Lich King, exploiting the game's Small Indie Company weakness.
Also for Warrior, (back when I had the cards), I stalled him off on phase 2 with 0/7 taunt guy, Dead Man's Hand and Coldlight Oracle and fatigued him until he took 150 damage in a single draw. It was marvelous.
I remember vicious fledgling being the first card I ever crafted with dust in this game and then after 50 tries I gave up trying to win with him. The deck that actually did it for me in the end was alarm-o-bot with every 8-10 mana minion I owned (and a stubborn Gastropod [[2 Mana 1/2 with taunt and poisonous]] for turn 2) and it was actually super fun to play with most classes
Keymaster Alabaster was my win condition for most classes. (Rogue also has Vanessa Vancleef as of core set). Let me explain this interaction, because it's crucial to understand what happens here. You get turn 7 before Lich King, so you drop Alabaster then. Lich King draws Frostmourne guaranteed, so you get a copy of it that costs 1. Lich King wastes his Turn 7 to play Frostmourne and will try to kill Alabaster for some stupid reason (He can't) Your turn... you set up and then play Frostmourne. Frostmourne will do EXACTLY THE SAME THING, so be warned that you are under the same restrictions too. -You get Lich Kings new hero power, become immune, and you get 6 2/6 minions. -All of your minions before Frostmourne will be erased until the end of the phase. -DO NOT PLAY ANY CARDS! THEY DON'T WORK! Any cards you try to play will fizzle uselessly. -Frostmourne on both boards will be destroyed once Lich King loses all of his spirits. -note: for Shaman, the new minions, including alabaster, revived by Frostmourne have their base stats. -You get the 3rd Phase Hero Power and get to keep any 2/6 spirits that didn't die. interesting thing I noticed for Hunter: If you do this and have the secret "Open The Cages", you will still proc it on your next turn and the summoned minion will not disappear. For reiteration, this is broken because your Frostmourne costs 1, so you can set up a board of awesome for after the Frostmourne phase, then run him over with minions plus your copy of his hero power and enjoy your free wins. Tell me it's not fun to get to be The Lich King and cheat worse than him at his own game!
i didn't know about the weapon trick for hunter but i played hunter quest line and did the key master alabaster trick to his get third hero power. just by refreshing my hero power spell after spell and it was my easiest fight
if you're struggling with Paladin, try removing one Acolyte of Pain for Oh My Yogg. Hard mulligan for Oh My Yogg so that you counter the Lich King's special class spell (revive enemy minions).
It would be more impressive if you beat the lich king with cards up to year of the Mammoth. I I have my Arthas after 2 weeks when it was out. It was a pain.
It is enough of a pain I haven't gotten through all the classes yet. I get so close with rogue but he always gets me down to low enough health to kill me when I would have won on the next freaking turn.
I beat him first try with Embrace the Pain Warrior deck. Don’t know how I pulled it off, but it was most likely because I believed in the heart of the cards. Haven’t tried with any other characters, this video just popped up and I decided to check it out, but I know it’s gonna be fucking hard haha
I have a single issue with the clip @Solem . While it is alright and you can basically win with any type of deck if you have a huge ammount of dust, this isn't the case for newer players and further on this, mechatun is a Wild card, this will discourage them even more, the winning strat is however an easy one and can be done with a single copy of vicious fledgeling. You need the basic 1 mana and 2 mana taunts to protect it, and then vicious fledgeling, you would however need to get windfury very early in the match and get attack damage buff, it is a viable strat for new players, this works for all classes except for Warrior as he has more armor and it is impossible to kill him then, in the warrior fight you would need a single copy of doomsayer to remove the 2/6 taunts or mossy horror , cheers !
The amount of days that went by just trying and failing with each class, the latest expansion being Kobolds and Catacombs then, all reduced to an hour after new expansions. That hurts. That actually really hurts :'(
Ah, the modern times when you have Mecha'thun, Platebreaker, Kobold Stickyfinger, Mossy Horror... We plebs didn't have these goodies back in August 2017, nor dust for expensive decks like Renolock. So... MRGLMRGL! Murlocs, Vicious Fledgling (aka Flappy Bird) and sometimes Molten Giants. They worked wonders in Mage, Hunter and Warlock. Why go to the trouble of restricting your deck when you can play turn 2 16/16 in stats?
Ah, the good old days when the Classic set had Molten Giants. Still have my shiny gold ones I crafted just before it went to Hall of Fame , essentially for free because Blizzard refunded my 3200 dust.
I won as a rougue once with mill and once as pogo, pala as pure libram, mech hunter, totem shaman (that was incredible), murloc as mage and the turn 1 combo, mur-lock, i don't remember warrior (c'thun i guess), jade druid, and... once silence priest and once res priest
The hardest one was Warrior. I did it with a deck only 10 mana taunt minions and the alarm-o-bot (or how it is called). I did after like 60 tries taking several hours. ( I did it before the "armor removal" dude)
Two Galvanizers, a Doomsayer and Mecha'thun along with the Kobold Stickyfinger and Mossy Horror combo works for pretty much every class, and is a cheaper alternative to let's say using Anka in Rogue for an example. This strategy doesn't work for Druid however
there is a lot easier Rouge setup deck: Anka, mecha-thun, voodoo doll, the 1 mana weapon (with deathrattle give your minions rush) then every just randomly click spells until deck is full (subtract 10 or so restarts if you have both quests cause RNG) mulligan: if you get one of the minions in your opening hand throw it back, if one comes out on the first draw restart win: on turn 5 you will have drawn your entire "deck" play anka, hope that he Lich dude doesn't see lethal (if he does restart) and kills anka. on turn 6 play play mecha-thun, voodoo doll targeting mecha-thun, then play the 1 mana weapon and use your hero power, then run voodoo doll into something, and win. credit goes to adventure speedrunning (yes it is a thing)
for those wondering: wait can't I just drop voodoo doll and still win. you will draw all your cards by turn 4, which you are right, but you still have to wait for turn 5 to do anything (play the weapon is not necessary cause the full combo only needs 5 mana, and you will take 2 fatigue hits instead of 1, also Lich dude will almost 90% of the time ignore Anka, so it is the same turn count with voodoo doll. but it saves a lot of frustration for the 20% chance for Lich dude SMOrc.
Doomsayer can do mossy horror's job (not as good but still nicely) and the spore 1 mana minion that transforms other minions into itself is pretty good against bosses personally i did chaman using eggs and some token stuff , it was not that hard Shirvallah paladin works with saathrovaar and the 1 mana spell that makes you draw whenever a minion attacks + doomsayer and depth charge(pretty easy) Mecthun warrior with kalethas and risky skipper + battle rage works hunter with the rush lifesteal beast (with handbuff + copy the beasts) works pretty well and is cheap Keleseth rogue works pretty well (if you get keleseth on turn 2 ofc)

I did beat this challenge with waaay cheaper decks previously. Without Mechathun. Theres a video on how to do that somewhere in youtube.

For anyone currently playing Primordial Druid in standard, you have an easy win against the Lich King
