    I think that, as a child, he watched this happen to his Mom. He was too young to fight back, but as an adult he could.

      Definitely think is backed up by the lines: “She didn’t tell the whole truth, but she didn’t have to, I KNEW WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO HER.” Freaking brilliant songwriting.

      How young was she when this happened if they had four kids and she was 20 years old when it happened should start having kids at 40 and that's a little unusual not trying to disparage this but it makes you wonder but I have heard the same information from other sources the song is written from somebody in his life

    Back in the day...if this situation happened and towns people knew about it...the men of the town would "handle it." NO questions asked!! Rarely, would that same person ever lay hands on that person again, period!! My Dad was jumped outside of a bar and beaten profusely and left for dead. LUCKILY, some other patrons found him and got him to the hospital. He lost the use of 1eye and several broken bones, jaw wired shut. Anyway, the men of the town found out who did it. By the following day, he (the beater) and his family had packed up and left town for good! Townspeople came together to help pay the hospital bills. Now, THAT is an old timers ways!! That occurred in 1968. TOO BAD we don't handle situations the same way today. A LOT LESS of it would occur!

      Only issue in a situation like that tho is would she have been able to pull the trigger in a situation like that the abusee is so broken down that they may talk about it but are never able to follow through bc they don’t know they have it in them please keep in mind that this is not a dig at women who are abused this is coming from someone even tho I’m a man who has been in a similar situation

      you dont get self defense for grabbing your pistol then booting in some ones door

    • @WolvenHeart1
      @WolvenHeart1 4 місяці тому +2

      That is right. You instigated a break and enter into his home. The beater would have had the right to save his life. Now, if she was with him and not in the truck , he may have had a self-defense case because she was legally a resident there, and they could have claimed that he started hitting her he told her to stop, the guy went for his shotgun and since Texas is an open carry he shot him in self defence. But judging by the bruises and scars I think he wanted to keep her out of it and take the time.

    • @blee30
      @blee30 Місяць тому

      It doesn't matter. The guy broke the law by breaking in to his home. He has a right to defend his home under the Castle Doctrine. Anything after you break the law doesn't matrer. You broke the law first, which caused the other events to transpire.
      But that's also the point of the song. It's a very interesting moral dilemma. Makes you think how you would judge him being a jury member. Do you allow this?

    I love the idea of this song .. you can be religious, you can be kind, you can be lawful, you can be better!.... but after all the hallmark crap and feelings and psychological nonsense is over the only thing that ever has and ever will actually change the world is willingness to use violence as the answer it is....
    "A man who is capable of violence is dangerous. but the man who has it under voluntary control is the biggest shield. a man who isn't capable of violence isn't peaceful he's harmless!

    This could be any good man. Just put him in he "right" situation. I've had one moment in my life that would've ended like this if she told me where he was. Lucky for me she didn't, but also know that SOB is still a free man and free to do it again and again to other women.
    I'm not sure what's worse. Me in jail and him dead, or me being free and him free and alive to do it again and again.

    Thoughts... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?"
    I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.

  • @Phoenix_DarkMoon
    @Phoenix_DarkMoon 4 місяці тому +4

    look at how many times a man is released from jail on DV charges and reoffends or their victim ends up dead vs How many times women ACTUALLY escape their abusers. Proportionally it doesn't end well.

    There are certain parts of the country where justice won’t be done in a court of law for a multitude of reasons. I don’t like vigilantism, but I understand it and why some people turn to it. In a personal level I’d be hard pressed to find him guilty.

    This video is about Power, Pain, and Hope. Hardy and Lainey set it on fire. Great and talented artists. Lyrics were true...vocals awesome. Sadly, domestic abuse is all over the place. The justice system is so screwed up....These guys beat on women, are reported, get out after a few weeks....then end up killing the woman. In my opinion, this was justified homicide. At least there is one less scumbag on this earth. The guy in prison didn't ask the courts for mercy.....he asked God. Very telling....True man that wants to protect a woman....he was her avenging angel. My friend that lives in Nashville told me this was a true story about a friend of Hardy's or one of the other songwriters. Guy got 20 years....she waited for him...they got married. I believe he tours with Hardy now. I am from Tennessee, and believe me when your man tells you to "wait in the truck"....you know things are going to get ugly quick. Also, judge under the seat that is mentioned in the chorus, is a type of gun. I'd say if you had 10 cars on the road here....6 of them have "judges." Thanks for your reaction...enjoyed it. Eric Church is also great and so is Oliver Anthony....need to check them out. You won't be disappointed.

    He was an Avenging Angel. Avenging Angels were the first angels created by God.
    As a teen in the 70s I saw so many abused women and young girls. Where I grew up women belonged to the "man" of the house (Bible Belt USA). However, every once in a while one of those "men" would cross a line and then just take off. The rumors were that they were in hiding under some random septic tank. What do I know? I was just a kid. 🤷‍♀

    Down here in the south they can say what ever they want but that’s one thing we don’t deal well with is hitting women. When the justice doesn’t come from who it’s supposed to it comes anyways.. and when it does you won’t hear anyone talk about it until the person involved gives the okay. There’s multiple ways to “give your life for another”.. not all the time does it mean dying or taking a bullet, but giving your freedom to save someone like this

One can say right or wrong, but he did not go in there with the ant. Enna, on killing, he had the intent. On bringing him to justice. Take a look

    This song sends such a horrible message to young women out there, in fact all it does is help reinforce the basic mentality that leads to women finding themselves in an abusive situation in the first place, how can people not see that!!??
    What is wrong with today's country music and those that listen to it, my God, I'm so glad most of the greats like Cash, Hank Sr., Glen Campbell, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn and others like them aren't around to see this garbage, they're probably rolling over in their grave. Especially Tammy n Loretta, they both had tough upbringings, and suffered from abuse at the hands of men, and I can promise you they advocated for the EXACT opposite message this song is sending. It truly saddens me at the amount of people commenting and praising this song's message. Come on folks do better, especially if you have kids, daughters or sons!
