Someone with some common horse sense. I have been trying to figure out a watering system for 2 weeks. Amazing Lady! You are the type of grandma I hope to grow into. I’m a newer grandma and I aspire to be one like you!
Perhaps, on your top bottle, do not cut off the entire bottom. Leave it attached with about 1-1 1/2 to the side bottle, like a hinge. This will help keep moisture in from evaporation, and keep debris out of the cup. The lower cups, I would cut to the depth of the pots, again it would keep debris out. Love this idea. Thank you sooooo much.
A tighter fit would also reduce evaporation out of the cut bottles. Good thinking! I think I’m going to really enjoy this village she’s gathering here!
You make me feel like smacking my forehead & saying "duh? Why didn't I think of that!" I'll do that right away, & this Good Lady's watering system, too. Using mine for a seedling nursery.😊🌱🌱

Aww, thank you so much. I don’t know how to be anything but just me. Nothing fancy. I love making videos and more importantly, new friends. Thanks for watching. Come back and see me any time.
Instead of putting in dirt and then removing the same dirt, place the plant (cup and all) into the planter. Fill the dirt around the cup and tap it firm. Carefully twist and remove the cupped plant. Holding just the plant, strip off the cup and the dirt ball will fit perfectly back into the hole you created.
This was such a well thought out, organized tutorial, and I truly appreciate it. I’d just watched another video prior to yours which used the same basic concept, but it wasn’t *nearly* as neatly done, nor did they think to secure the bottles by attaching the tops through the bottom of the planter. I’m so glad I found you! Thanks again! 👍🏽
Great ideas! I would offer two suggestions - the first is that if the bottle lid doesn’t want to attach easily, turn it backwards first to set it, then you can easily tighten. The second is to use old cotton shoestring, cording, or even torn strips of fabric that run from inside the bottle (knot it inside the bottle) out to the edge of each pod. Bury the cords in the potting soil horizontally. Bury the cords deep in the soil in each pod to help the roots train to go deep. Repeat for the remaining layers. When you water, it can help wick the moisture out to the edges of the planter pods. Thanks for sharing your wonderful creativity!
Thanks for your helpful post!! I just bought some of these. Can't wait to start this project. I flatten and place the coffee filter in the bottom of each pot before adding my soil. They work great & will prevent lots of soil loss!😊
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO... YOUR SYSTEM IS MUCH EASIER THAN WHAT I INVISIONED WHEN I PURCHASED EVERYTHING EARLIER TODAY... NOW I GOTTA FIND SOMEBODY WHO DRINKS SODAS 😂
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO ❣️ I saw the systems on other you tube channels because I don't have land but wanted to grow a few vegetables and herbs but I can't afford them 😔 I excitedly bought Dollar Trees pots but had no idea what to do about watering because there's no holes. You're a genius and an angel for sharing. May God bless you greatly 😇
When I was about 12, I lived on Wild Turkey Ridge, only for a couple years, NW Arkansas. You so remind me of my Aunt Volita, she was an avid gardener, she had a huge garden. In summer we would sit on the deck and snap beans.
I'm going to use your system to put marigols among my tomatoe plants, securing w/ a rebar stake on 2 sides (windy Oklahoma). I won't step on my marigolds this year. This is so perfect for an herb garden. 😊 A million thanks to you ma'am!
My first year working with these stackable planters. I can see that watering will be an issue. You’ve come up with an excellent solution for watering. Mine are currently stacked on a 6’ electrical conduit pipe. Next year I may consider incorporating your watering system. I’m also using the smaller stackable planter (2) as spacers between the larger ones to enable turning the pots for equal sun exposure and airflow. Keep sharing and have a plentiful growing season.
Thank you. Using the smaller stackables in between sounds interesting. They might also be helpful as a watering system as well. I have put my towers on inexpensive plastic lazy Susans so I can spin them for sun exposure.

great video and great watering system...Now I know to not cut off much of the water bottle that is on top and to make sure I cut the others to be as tall as the planter so no dirt gets inside of them...
I set my watering system up the opposite way. I fed wicking rope through the bottom of each, I think I had 5 stacks. I set the stack in a big saucer and watered that daily. It was a little tricky to feed the string through each pot above it, and I tied knots above and below each pot so the wick wouldn't slip down. I bought some more planters this year and will try your bottle trick since it's easier to set up.
Wow the wicking system sounds really neat but yes I can see that it might be a little difficult to set up. Let me know if you have as much success as I did with the bottle set up. Happy planting.
Really wobbly,,, a wind will knock it over... better secure it somehow. Also the plants on 2nd, & lower levels they look like if their tall growing this won't work, or you'll have to plant them crooked
@@streetsmartintelligent Hello. Mine were not wobbly but I don't get that much wind where I keep them. You can shorten your tower or try stabilizing with a pole or pvc pipe. If you drill holes in the pvc, the bottle trick will still work, you will just not be able to screw the caps on them. As far as taller plants, you may have to pick plants that are the right size for the planter. I have planted basil and dill and other herbs and they seem to do just fine. Sometimes they get a little bushy but they can be pruned throughout the season. Hope this helps.
we used a tree stake in the center, pounded it in the ground, we also run a sprinkler hose up through the center to the top and have three sprinkler soaker heads watering from the top down, the sprinklers come on when the garden sprinklers come on.
Great idea. Here in FL in zone 9b I have to worry about wind so I need to put a post down the center. I may try thin PVC and put holes in it. But I will try a short tower using your watering method. Thanks for sharing.
Ah yes windsccould be problematic. Maybe you could leave the caps off of the bottles and thread your “holey” pipe through the bottles. I tried just putting holes in pipe but did not work good. All the water went straight to the bottom level.
I just put two sets of 6 together. My friend gave me three bags of bottles that fit perfectly. I can’t wait to get them planted. O third I have a couple wheeled stands too. Thanks for all of the ideas!!
Found your channel & love it. You are so sweet. I’m in the UK & going to try your tower & irrigation system here in my little garden in Yorkshire ❤❤ thank you xx
FANTASTIC IDEA !! I just bought some of these pots last week and was trying to figure out a good way to water the plants. BINGO! You solved my problem! Thank you.
Wet transplants well to separate easily and not damage roots. After drilling a center hole, I used a bamboo to hold my tower stacker in place because the wind kept blowing it over. This seems to be a good idea with the watering system. If it works well to keep the plants watered, I'd suggest just cutting the bottom just enough to lift it leaving it as a lid to open and close so you can fill it with water. Can use a twist tie to keep it from blowing open in the wind. This helps prevent some evaporation. I like your suggestion!
might want to add cloth to move the water to roots leaching the water to each plant, then cut the bottom of plastic bottle to shimmy over watering system so no dirt gets in it, remove when you water. just a thought happy gardening!
thats a pretty neat idea!.i have a stackable from aldi and i just water the top and it usually leaks down. i just recommended the dollar tree stackable to a friend

Just found your channel. Love your video on the dollar tree stacking pots. It’s brilliant. My son showed me the pots and my first thought was how the watering was going to work, now I know. Thank you so much for sharing. 🦋💕
I just got some of these at my local dollar store and I was thinking the same thing! You can stack a bunch of these up and make an almost aeroponic garden type system but with soil obviously, just same idea where they are all stacked. Excited to try these this year!
I was finally able to get these stackable planters this year. So excited to plant the this year I haven't figured out where they're going yet. So anxious to get in the garden! Be safe, Be prepared, Be blessed
Great idea, it really looks like it runs through fast, I think I'll try it and put less holes, and the top one could be cut where less of the bottle is cut off! Also this is just my opinion but your cucumbers, I would only put one in those pots, they would do better! Happy growing! I love that you have your planters on a turntable! Great idea also!
You are right about a few less holes and I had to cut the bottles down quite a lot so the next layer would stack on top. I intend to thin the cucumbers more, I was waiting until warmer weather and to see which ones were growing better and were more hardy before taking any more of them out. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you for this video. I just bought some of these last week but quickly realized the watering issue. I have a greenstalk but i didn't want to spend so much money. This was an excellent idea. 💜
Awesome! Now I can really use my dollar tree planters. I did add a wheeled bottom tray so I could move them but this watering system is definitely doable!
here in FL we have areas without refuse collection ... you can go to the transfer station and dump yourself, and at same time pick up all the plastic bottles you need from the recycle bin in case you don't want to buy water just for this project!

Gardening is very rewarding even if it's on a small level. Just growing a few herbs and a couple pretty flowers does wonders for the soul. I believe the stackable tower planters would work great for you. I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

I know nothing about gardening except for I really want to grow my own greens Green's I eat about 2 lbs A day along with other vegetables with the greens if you could help me I would so much appreciate it thank you so much. Do You think these Dollar tree stackables or going to be work? it's what I could afford thank for your help.
@@lyndasimpson4085 Hello, you should be able to grow plenty of spinach and kale in the stackable towers. I would put just a couple of seeds in the center of each pot and once they germinate you can thin them out so there will only be one plant growing in each. Once the leaves are a few inches tall you can start harvesting but you would never want to cut off all the leaves or harvest the entire plant. Just snip a leaf from here and from there. Right now is the perfect time to start planting things like spinach and kale because we are heading in to fall and they are cooler weather crops.
brilliant!!!! i've seen a lot of ideas but most of the others were way to expensive or too much work for $1 planters, this is great. I think I will try a version of this.
Hi! I am a new subscriber. I just bought the stackable from Dollar Tree. I wasn’t sure if I was going to stack them or just plant up one or two with garden green beans. I saw a video on them and wanted to try them. Your watering system is amazing and very well thought out! I love your video and will watch your other ones and new ones. You are such a hard worker, and very inspiring, and you are fun to watch! I haven’t seen many videos on how to work with the stackable. So I am so glad you showed us. They seem to be very popular this year. It looks like the majority of your comments are recent ones! I think sooo many people are interested in growing vegetables now. And the stackables are so manageable to use , especially for people who just want a small garden area. Your channel just popped up, and I’m glad it did! It’s nice to meet you. Thank you❣️
Nice to meet you Sandy. So glad we found each other. Thank you for subscribing. I do love the Dollar Tree stackable planters. They are great for a small garden because they fit just about anywhere, even on a small deck like mine. I have not tried green beans in them so you will have to let me know how everything works out. Happy Gardening.
I'm not sure if this will help you, but I bought a soldering iron for $6 & you can use that to make the holes in your bottles or drainage holes. It's a bit easier than the drill and you don't have to worry about cracking your pots. I even forgot mine outside for a week & it still works! You can also use it to cut the bottles
I loved your video! In fact, just today I purchased ONE of these planters. Definitely going back to get a few more and start some herbs! They are so expensive at the grocery store!

Looking lovely while sharing what you love 💌 And all of your viewing fans offering tips is delightful and further helpful. 🎉 Community of Home-gineers! My next question was, is there a better order for veggies from the bottom to top stacked tiers, or does it not matter? (If anyone has some thoughts on this) Thank you 💕😊
Can you give us an update on how these stackable planters have done? Also, how often do you need to water each tower? Thank you for the thorough video.
I have looked through your videos and I cannot seem to find any update on the stackable Walmart planter. Please send me a link or tell me which video it’s on. Thank you very much. Take care.
Awesome... I have a few of these planters purchased a few years ago, unused. Hoping to get a few more. The only thing I might do differently is wrap a piece of landscape fabric around the bottles to keep the soil from leaching in. In addition, I'm really into air pruning roots, so I may make tiny holes around the bottom sides where they will drain over the next pot below. Anyway, this really is a fabulous solution! Thank you.
What a great idea! I'm not a big fan of Dollar tree pots for planting. They crack and break so fast. You're lucky if you get to use them for two seasons before having to replace them.
Good idea, thinking about getting stackable planters to plant some vegetable to bring in indoor for winter. I will implement your watering system for the stackable plants. ❤👍👍

Great idea. Thank you so much.
This is genius. I just started using these this year and ran into the same problem. I only did 3 high.
That's a really good 'Garden Hack'!
thats a pretty neat idea!.i have a stackable from aldi and i just water the top and it usually leaks down. i just recommended the dollar tree stackable to a friend
This looks great! I’ve always wondered what those planters were for😊.
Much luv for sharing bought these last summer definitely using on balcony this summer you couldn't have made it any simpler. Thanks
I’m loving this; grabbed several last year but never used. Was hesitant as it’s so hot here. This will definitely help an will be a nice home school project too. ❤God Bless you 4 sharing it.
You are so very welcome. I hope the children enjoy the project.
Tank you I was growing strawberries in mine real pain to water ! Great idea !
Genius! I was so frustrated last year. Gonna try this and see how it goes. Thank you!
Yay, good luck my friend and Happy Gardening!
I like the out of the box idea. Good job!
Great idea. I’ve been looking for something like this. I stopped using they pots because of the watering. Now I can plant out my tower completely. Thank you for your knowledge. Have a good day.🤗
You are so very welcome. So glad I could help. Happy planting!
@@lifeonturkeylane5950 I’m binge watching your channel. I plan on doing the orange peel cleaner as well. I’ve gotten so excited since I found your channel. Keep up the great work. 🤗
@@princessalways4eva so glad. Thank you.
thankyou for this , i have never used a watering system in my stakers no wonder my strawberrys where drying out all the time ,
You are so very welcome.
Excellent idea. Works perfectly. Good job🎉❤
Just found your channel. Love your video on the dollar tree stacking pots. It’s brilliant. My son showed me the pots and my first thought was how the watering was going to work, now I know. Thank you so much for sharing. 🦋💕
You are so very welcome. Glad to be of some help. Happy planting!
Thank you so much for this tip! It is great. Will set this up soon. I'm ready for spring!
I am so ready for Spring as well. So glad you enjoyed the video.
I just got some of these at my local dollar store and I was thinking the same thing! You can stack a bunch of these up and make an almost aeroponic garden type system but with soil obviously, just same idea where they are all stacked. Excited to try these this year!
You got a new sub in me. 🍀We had those planters before, but they dried out too quick. Thank you for this🌱🌱 simple solution!
I love this! You’re a genius! 😀
I was finally able to get these stackable planters this year. So excited to plant the this year
I haven't figured out where they're going yet. So anxious to get in the garden!
Be safe, Be prepared, Be blessed
Yay so glad you found some happy gardening.
What a great watering system! Thanks for sharing! I will be off to Dollar tree! 🌸
You are so very welcome. Happy gardening!
I am today years old!! I’m absolutely doing this !!
Thank you. I hope you have good results with your Dollar Tree stackables.
I am a newbie, love your idea for the stackable planters, I will be watching your videos in the future, your great.
Welcome to the channel thank you so much.
Awesome 👍👍 💯💯 THANKS 👍👍❤❤ appreciate you sharing
Brilliant idea for a watering system, thanks! 💚😊💚
Thank you it worked really good.
That's a very smart idea I'm going to try it this year I also like the turntable you have them on
Thanks. Everything worked out very well.
Loved your video. So well presented, step by step. Thank you.
Awesome! Now I can really use my dollar tree planters. I did add a wheeled bottom tray so I could move them but this watering system is definitely doable!
Great. Thank you so much. Happy planting.
here in FL we have areas without refuse collection ... you can go to the transfer station and dump yourself, and at same time pick up all the plastic bottles you need from the recycle bin in case you don't want to buy water just for this project!
That is such a neat idea! I plan on using your watering system with my stackable planters! Thank you for sharing!
You are so very welcome. I hope everything works out great for you.
Your such a genius 🤩
Ingenious my friend. This is just so smart. I was trying to figure out a post with holes drilled in it for stability.
Thank you for this video I never been successful gardening I never had the money for gardening and now I'm older and disabled and I want to learn how to garden thank you for sharing this amazing video❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome. I am pretty new to gardening myself and for sure know all about shortage of money, but if I can do any of this, you can too. Gardening is very rewarding even if it's on a small level. Just growing a few herbs and a couple pretty flowers does wonders for the soul. I believe the stackable tower planters would work great for you. I wish you all the best in your endeavors.
❤❤❤ thank you. Hi how do I grow enough spinach and kelp to eat everyday ?how do I know how much to plant? when do I start cutting the leaves to eat or do I take the whole plant out and it?
@@lifeonturkeylane5950 Okay, thank you!😊
Great idea
Great idea. You are charming. You sound just like Melissa McCarthy in her sweeter roles!
Thanks for the tip!
Awesome hack. Make sure not to breathe the fumes and definitely do it outside
Yep. I use my husband's. Works fast
I find the sodering iron is so much faster. Definitely an outside job, though.
I used it but i found the hole was to large so i just used a small nail and hammer to tap the hole in
I love your watering idea! So clever. I may try some of those planters. You make it look so easy. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Thank you. You are so very welcome.
I never thought to drill more than the 3 holes in these pots. Good thing it's not too late :)
I loved your video! In fact, just today I purchased ONE of these planters. Definitely going back to get a few more and start some herbs! They are so expensive at the grocery store!
Yes very expensive and they are very easy to start from seed.
I Love You❤ This was exactly what I was looking for and your system and exicution of it, genius! 👏👏👏👏✨️ Agro-Bravo! Looking lovely while sharing what you love 💌
And all of your viewing fans offering tips is delightful and further helpful. 🎉 Community of Home-gineers!
My next question was, is there a better order for veggies from the bottom to top stacked tiers, or does it not matter?
(If anyone has some thoughts on this)
Thank you 💕😊
What a clever idea! Thanks for sharing. ❤
I just found you! Your amazing! Thank you for being your sweet genuine self! Already love you!💖
Well thank you. I am so glad you found me too. Have a fantastic day.
Can you give us an update on how these stackable planters have done? Also, how often do you need to water each tower? Thank you for the thorough video.
There are a few update videos after this one from last summer. They did really well.

Thank you.
Hi Joann. Sounds like you have some really good ideas there. Happy gardening!
❤👍👍
Nice job, I love this! I put my stack on an old lazy Susan so it will tun all around-
I never would have thoufht to plant jear the side. My mind instantly wants to put it center. Thanks for the idea
So glad I could help you out. Happy planting!!
Beautiful plants and great idea with the planteer pots. I use those same pots. Been using them for starting a lot of seedlings
Am in England I bought 5 of these pots to stack and grow strawberries in - we do get a lot of rain tho 🙄😆 but this idea is genius 👏👏👏🌿
Hello so thrilled you joined me from England. How did your strawberries do? Maybe I should try some in mine.
@@lifeonturkeylane5950 aw not tried them yet this will be my first year growing fruit and veg 🌿 I sowed some chilli seeds at the beginning of the month and yesterday sowed sunflower and zinnia seeds - spring is just around the corner now am on the east coast of UK (Whitby - where Dracula supposedly landed) we're having a chilly time just now but the days are getting longer and sunnier at last 😎☀️ and the spring bulbs are popping up 🌷🪻🌼 love from Whitby 💙

What a beautiful dress! I love it!
Thank you for sharing! This is a great idea!
That's such a great, resourceful and imaginative idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. You are so very welcome.
Pineapple sage grows really big, so I would not use that type of container but something bigger. Even though I used a long, deep and wide patio container to plant my pineapple sage in last year, it still really outgrew the container quickly.
You are so very right. I will definitely be planting mine in something bigger from now on.
