I can totally appreciate your perspective.. and know a lot of effort has gone into your setup.. but aqua setup is not for everyone.. personally I was turned off by a bunch of the equipments pricing and the electrical draw.. my electric bill is big enough! Yikes.. I grow a LOT on my little patio, in pots and grow bags.. to the point of over flowing into other areas 😅 but.. I’ve been able to grow enough produce to keep my neighbors happy by sharing and still having more than I can use.. yeah, I t’s a big labor of love, there’s no hose or exterior water access.. but I’ve worked out catching rain, or just hauling from the sink when needed.. Good luck to you this season 😊 sharing the knowledge is one of the best things about these skills.. people are drawn regularly to my little jungle next to the parking lot, I give lots of suggestions and advice.. it’s been a way to build community.. even though I’m an introvert and prefer to not “socialize” it’s important to have relationships with people around you..
She didn’t lie. $70 is far from expensive. Some kits cost well over $1k. It’s also not her only method either as she has shown several homemade and free planters for hydroponics.
I am thinking the same. However I am with her on using old containers for planting. Especially eggs boxes. For a cardboard planter set you have to pay about £9 for 2-3. Over winter I just don’t throw them away and have perfect planters for spring time.
what? its mostly recycled materials, including water, Styrofoam, and PVC. The pots are reusable. She's literally talking about how she doesn't use unnecessary expensive crap. You sound like someone who doesn't know any better.
@creepitsurreal OK. Maybe she has waving pipe just lying around and water pumps and shit. I have the odd magararine tub but i don't often have a waste water pump lying around in my recycle bin. I guess you live in a totally different world to me where pvc pipe is a by product you often have in your life ..lol. I know nothing of such things. Whole other world to me.
Exactly! I have those mini farm hydro set ups I got second hand. They are expensive. Nice thing the steeple buy this stuff then sell it cheap. When they move to the next thing.
I was gonna say the same thing when she said "I rely on self sustaining methods" when I saw that she has no fish to fertilize the plants. Add some fish to the water and you don't have to use chemicals... Kool set up though looks good
I love this thank you .. i don't follow seed spacing guidelines either, i use old cartons etc for seedlings.i use companion planting too.. Your garden is amazing!
I can only garden on my deck because even though I live in the suburbs, I have a ton of deer and rabbits who will eat absolutely everything they can reach. I also don’t follow the rules about spacing plants and thinning them, but as long as I give them good soil and extra food, I get to enjoy the riot of plants and can get a good harvest. I love sitting among my jungle and watching the bees, butterflies, birds and other visitors come to my space. I also grow flowers to mix in with my vegetables. I am a novice, so I buy mainly live plants I’ve ordered online, and then tuck in whatever I was able to grow from seed. I stick to what little I know: tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers, cucumbers, squash, and eggplants. Maybe I’ll add herbs if I have the energy. I keep trying to grow pumpkins, and I keep failing. I don’t think they like containers, but I’m trying red kuri squash this year. Fingers crossed. The expenses are in the pots and planters. You can repurpose pots, but some plants need deep, rich soil. A good friend built planter boxes on wheels for my tomatoes that worked great last year, so I’m excited to grow whatever I want this year. It’s all good fun and it helps the environment if you compost and provide food for the pollinators. Have fun! This is stress relief for me, but I’m sure other people do not see it that way. Happy gardening!
Gardening is stress relief for me, too! Fun therapy! My secret oasis that I love to be in daily. Fun Pest Control: Bird friends! I leave out birdseed & 2 birdbaths... The birds enjoy my garden, eat birdseed, & they eat all the bugs! No bugs left. 😅
Your set up is very impressive. I'm a bit leary on hydroponics. I would love to try it though. I hope that the learning curve is not too hard. Thanks for sharing.
Your hydroponics great. You say you don't but specialty kits, but you did. I see them in your video. All that does cost. I'd rather see what you did and how.
Those are Styrofoam and piping... it seems she made all of it... it just looks nice. We also don't know what she's thrifted or been gifted. She's still making an educational opinion that works for her and her community.
Very nice, having the plants in seperate 'krakey' type containers means you can move them around were needed especially, pest management. I to dont follow spacing 'methods' either. Were i am every thing gets burnt if its not shaded. Your lucky to have this roof top
Tbh I don’t even have a garden. My planting is literally just flowers and berries and other seeds I just throw at the dirt in the middle of the local woods, I literally plant bulbs by digging their holes with random sticks. I don’t even take care of them, I just let the small forest do the job. But to be fair, my reason for planting is anything but food, I’m literally just living out the plot of The Secret Garden but with an urban woodlands. Makes me happy though 😭😭
Amazing job you did with your plants. However, one thing I noticed is, UA-cam plays the song so loud that it competes with the volume of your own voice. I wonder how it works.
That looks like such a happy place to be. I bet it'll give that nice tiny home feeling where everything is in reach. And being outside is of course good for you.
Plant spacing is important when drawing nutrients from soil and for good airflow. I don't thinks those are important here because the nutrients are added via aquaponics and the garden is up on a roof where there is better airflow than on the ground, where soil and organic matter retain and evaporate moisture which can get trapped and cause disease.
I love this😍 I’ve seen some lovely setups online but they are definitely expensive. I would love to learn how to build one that is lovely looking as yours

"I don't buy expensive kits." (Proceeds to show off a Mini-Farm system) 😂 😂 😂
I just looked it up cause I saw the logo and that system is almost $70!
Trying to show off hydroponics while you stuck with her explaining 😂😂😂

This lol my very first thought

That looks like a very expensive set up to be fair.
it looks like something only vloggers would really care to invest on.

Looks amazing, you are very creative 😊
I don't buy expensive kits, except for this very expensive aquaponics setup with pumps valves and liquid fertilisers.
It might be 2nd hand 😊
Exactly! What’s she’s doing cost so much more then my dirt filled pots

This is honestly SO cool ! I wish more people did this on their balcony. Even just flowers can help out pollinators
This isn't allowed in a lot of apartment complexes. They don't want anything on the balcony
there are dozens of vlogs about gardening in balconies from European content creators.
