    Aliexpress seems to be more organised than ebay - it looks like the sellers are more under control. There are some very good sellers on Ali - ones who track things to your door and are fast - carriage costs seem more bearable when that happens. Often the best way to find things is add something to your cart and then look at the suggestions that will then come up. Sometimes it is cheaper to place multiple orders - because of the way carriage is calculated. Ali often allows more exploration of carriage options. I've seen PayPal offered but I've never seen it as cheap as paying by credit card. Sometimes selecting "free carriage" is the way to make progress finding the best deal - there can be a huge number of potential suppliers.
    I've never had any problem with Ali orders, off hand I can't recall any not arriving. A few sellers have cancelled orders. Over on ebay I've seen more trouble, but benefited from ebay protection (and it is worth knowing PayPal have a longer protection period than ebay). ebay can be cheaper than Ali.
    You have to look at these sites as 95 out of 100 things will arrive and be OK - you'll get a good deal - don't fuss about the handful of items which go wrong - and on that basis don't spend money you can't afford to lose.
    Buying from reputable local vendors doing their best, things can go wrong, never mind people half a world away.

      Totally agree with what you said! I forgot to mention in the video the thing about multiple items from the same seller, yes, it can sometimes be cheaper to place individual orders than it is to add them all at once in your shopping cart which will increase shipping cost.

  • @scottstevens7569

    Ordering multiple items from 1 seller at a time, up to 50, is a VERY HUGE PROBLEM to enter and understand a dispute if the package does not arrive. Each item must be disputed separately and the entire order cost(shipping) may not be refunded unless an appeal is made for the shipping cost; even on an order where shipping has been cancelled by the seller. Waiting for a "SALE" like 11/11 in order to save pennies on each small item is not worth much, and a ROYAL PITA if any issues develop.
    Great video and Tips!

      Also related to purchasing multiple items at once from the same seller: it can sometimes be cheaper to place separate 1 pcs orders than it is to add 10 pcs to the same order because then, the shipping cost will increase, making the total more expensive.

    AliExpress search is just useless but the site is indexed by Google so I use the advanced Google search and restrict the domain (or use the 'site:' parameter in the ordinary search box).

    • @electron7659
      @electron7659 3 роки тому

      I agree with the fact that actual unedited footage would be optimal evidence for a legitimate reimbursement.
      The problem with filming your entire receiving AND unboxing process is that the footage may or will be too large of a file in order to be able to be sent to them via email or their website due to the size of the file. 🤔
      So now what? How will plain photos prove anything.

    There is a sale at aliex right now. Experience based on stuff I had in my shopping cart:
    TLDR: Items previously marked as "SALE" got cheaper. But some items got more expensive. The price drop is not as high as they make you believe. (eg: now they show a higher regular price than the item was yesterday)
    The amount of discount they show is excessive compared to the "normal" price of an item. For example: Item was 4.72 before sale, now it's 4.4. A nice 7% discount in this case. The "regular" price now they show is 8$, like the current discount is 40%.
    But also some sellers did increase the price! Even items at the same seller: two items are cheaper now, one is more expensive. The one that got more expensive is not marked as sale tho, so they are not lying. But if you were waiting for price drop to buy a bunch of stuff, you might end up paying roughly the same, if some items did got more expensive.

    I found that contacting the seller for higher value goods and ask if they can put lower value on the customs form so no tax or charges to pay when it arrives. Most will do this if you ask. Also if you're ordering several items, contact them and ask for a discount. Most will throw in an extra one or two for free. I've been buying a ton of laser show stuff from one seller on Aliexpress and due to emailing and asking questions I got about $200 of free stuff added to my order for being a good and regular customer.

    I always look for items on eBay first. They're easier to find, and usually cheaper. Once in a while AE is cheaper, and then only by $1 max. AE does seem to have a greater variety though.

    I ordered 2 items on Aliexpress using Paypal in April 2020. While Voltlog doesn't have a favorite seller, its in your best interest to remember those seller that provide good service, since a slightly higher price is worth knowing the seller will actually send you the unit. Your time is worth more than you think. Waiting 60 days only to get dinked around, and refunded, is no fun.

    All those tips are 100% true based on my own experience as a compulsive AliExpress buyer.
    One thing I would add related to shipping to my country, Mexico. With the free, non tracked cheap shipping such as Cainiao, Yanwen and the likes will have half of their parcels lost in the way. So I shall definitely opt for AliExpress Standard, which usually costs around $5, or if it is a cheap $1 to $2 worth item, I the order it from two or three sellers. At least one will be delivered, if lucky all of them, and it ends costing the same as merchandise plus Ali shipping.

    I have always been very wary of using ali express but recently ordered a battery pack for my electric bike as they are very expensive in the UK even on ebay, to my suprise I was able to pay with paypal and also the seller took the UK VAT, so my order was placed and I crossed my fingers that there would not be import duty to pay and prepared to wait for it to make the slow journey from China. to my delight and suprise it arrived inside 2 weeks and had come from the UK. I don't understand it as all the uk listings on ebay were at least twice the price.

    Very good points. Especially the AliExpress search engine getting confused with dots and dashes, I did not know that. When I'm trying to decide from which seller to buy, I sort the results in the number of items sold, then I choose between them by price. The one who sold the most with a better price wins. This usually will not be the cheapest option, but I prefer the seller that sold 1000 of the particular item over the one that sold 10 even if he is a little bit pricey. Also when buying stuff that cost more than $10 or the ones I need in a shorter time, I choose the cheapest delivery option that offers international tracking, I avoid free shipping with these items because in my experience, free shipping means late delivery. China post registered usually works well for me.

    I had in most cases no problem. When i had an issue i usually tried to contact the seller first and if that didn't work i used the dispute function. But when i look back at the last years i had probably 600+ orders there and maybe 10 cases where i had to apply for a refund.
    Something i find annoying about their search is the country limitation. I think since almost a year there is something wrong with it. When i select Germany (where i live) many links go to an empty page and are shown as not available or wrong link. If i switch the country in the top bar from Germany to Netherland or UK i can find much more and the shipping to my country works without a problem.

    I once got a 290eur refund from aliexpress. The package in question was delivered, but the specifications weren't the ones i needed. I pointed the fact that the buyer requested me to leave them a note on what i needed exactly, but they failed to send out the correct one. I made a lot of pictures as proof that the seller was at fault. After a week i got a proposal of a full refund. Ironically i ordered the part i wanted a week later from ebay(uk) for 330eur and the part was as described and all, but it did not fit, because of how everything was configured on my end. In the end i used that aliexpress one.

  • @Joe_Galaska

    Wow, you are right on with your experience. I have also experienced the product not as described dispute. In order to get a refund I would need to ship it back at my cost. Even though they were the ones to ship the wrong product. Escalating the dispute to AliExpress resulted in a stupidly low refund. There is not next level of dispute once it gets up to AliExpress.
    I have also challenged package tracking data that indicates the item as shipped and picked up by logistics but never gets delivered. When that occurs I have to wait the full product protection period and then dispute in order to get a full refund.
    Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos encourage you to do tips and tricks covering other platforms.

      I've had the same experience - I once ordered several USB cables with A to micro configuration. What I recieved was USB cables with A connectors on both ends. Completely useless. The dispute got escalated but resulted in only a small refund/cable....and I was stuck with something completely useless. Bottom line is: when ordering on Aliexpress be prepared to take a full loss. If this is too much risk shop elsewhere.

      One trick you can use when receiving product not as described is to check the tracking, if the tracking does not show the order as delivered, just mention order not delivered as the reason, for a full refund.

    You can do a whole series on this! Since the search feature is haphazard, I like to make the most general search, then sort by most Orders. This can help lead to a more basal, and reliable vendor. I watch my Undelivered Orders like a hawk. As soon as an undelivered item goes beyond the shipping time, then do the refund process. If you fill out the forms right, they are fast with CC refunds.

    • @voltlog
      @voltlog  4 роки тому

      Yes I have observed there are times when the refund happens automatically, depending on the options you choose.

    A few more tipps:
    - Make pictures of the opening process of the packages with a tracking number visible. Sometimes you will be required to send a photo of the packaging with the damaged or wrong good
    - Before opening a dispute contact the seller and say what is wrong with the package
    - Then always go through the dispute system, don't listen to sellers claiming to send another package, send missing goods with the next order or refund you via paypal. Many of them will tell you the dispute hurts the store and they will refund you without a dispute. Don't believe it. The dispute is the only way to get a refund. Reputable sellers will tell you to open a dispute and quickly accept it. Most sellers will lie though.
    - Add screenshots of the chat with the seller or the racking status to the dispute.
    I got all of my disputes accepted so far, only once I had to accept a deduction.
    There are a handful of very good sellers on ali express (creality, bigtreetech, soundlink, ksger) usually the official stores or reputatble brands should be trustworthy. But 99% of all sellers will be trying to talk you out of a refund.
    So only buy cheap stuff you can afford to loose until you see how the seller behaves.

  • @TheDefpom
    @TheDefpom 4 роки тому +2

    When claiming a refund ALWAYS include photos, or a video if possible showing what the issue is, if the seller doesn't honour it, Aliexpress usually will if there is sufficient evidence, if you don't provide evidence then Aliexpress may not side with you.

    I also mentioned this on BigClive's recent video about crimpers, but I bought an IWISS IWS-2820M from Aliexpress, and they delivered an IWISS branded SN-28B. Not only that but I ordered it during the big sale in November, but it didn't arrive until January, despite their tracking system saying it was delivered in December. Unfortunately I was too busy to look at it then, so I didn't realise it was the wrong model until well after the protections expired. And like you said, they'd probably want me to send it back anyway, which would cost just as much or more than buying a replacement.
    At this stage I'm pretty much done with Aliexpress. Sure, they're often cheaper than eBay, but delivery times are longer, they've sent the wrong item on multiple occasions, and I can't use Paypal. From now on I'll just buy stuff from eBay, and only use Aliexpress as a last resort if eBay doesn't have the item.

    I had several bad cases when ordering vintage components, which are not in mass production any more. They will send you used component and list it as new or they send you similar component which might work in most used configuration but parameters are who knows what. Also beware with RF power transistors - you will probably get fake stuff and it might perform bad or just burn down at rated power. If the component looks visually like original in any way then you will probably never get a refund. It is hard to prove bad functioning of a transistor to a dumbuser customer support :)

IMHO, you need to be a good customer first, always confirm deliveries and give good reviews to the sellers that do well. I made maybe five orders on aliexpress over the last few years. One didn't arrive at all, two times I didn't get what was described (fake/low quality), one time shipping took for ever, and only once out of the five times all went as expected (typical 3-4 weeks shipping time and item as described). The latter I ordered from a seller that I know as reliable from ebay, but didn't have that exact item ebay. The other sellers weren't bad either by ratings (99%+ I think), but that apparently doesn't mean anything on aliexpress.
    All in all a lot more hassle than buying on ebay. I can't really remember how much refund I got (only remember that the process was annoying every time), but I'm pretty sure that for paying less I got "lesser" for that money than if I had used ebay.

      Yes, for sure it's a bit more hassle than buying on others platforms, but it does come with some benefits (price, availability, processing time). That being said, if one is not willing to put in the extra effort, it's better to stick with the platforms that offer better buyer protection (ebay/paypal)

    I get good refund results for example for damaged products (not well packaged and broken during transit) but sometimes, I had to negotiate hard with the seller. In general, they first want me to return the product but it is very expensive from my country and I ask them to pay for the shipping in advance. At that time, the seller offers, in general, a ridiculous amount (“and you can keep the product”, yes sure it is broken). I refuse what they offer several times (and continue to ask for a full refund) and they raise the amount. In general, it is not possible to get 100% refund, so I accept around 90 or 95%. The whole process takes between 1 or 2 weeks. If I am to close to the end if the protection period, I don’t wait and open a dispute. But in last resort. Sellers do not like disputes at all. Once you open one, they stop collaborating.

    Some times the seller offers to refund via Paypall. I have never accepted that. I have requested refund via Aliexpress, although it may not benefit the seller. Also, some sellers request a video of some problem that obviously can not be documented by a video, just to make it more difficult/labourous to open a dispute. The cases where there may be difficulties with refund is when there is a dispute about quality - aliexpress does not have the expertice to judge who is right - so their descission may be arbitrary. But, overall, I am very satisfied with the aliexpress dispute resolution - after more than 1000 bought items. It is important to check the item thoroughly before acknowledging receipt, contact the seller before avknowledging, if there are problems.

Only had 3 problems. 1st was a roll of copper wire that turned out to be a 1 meter long coil, so it was refunded as not properly discribed. Second were some solar cells that turned out to be half the advertized current output. Third was an amplifier board that was shipped in bubble wrap with no antistatic protection and didn't work on arrival. All 3 refunded in full within 24 hours. Last order was for 4 RGB lasers totalling $2400. Being shipped for free by DHL 4 day delivery time for free and no taxes to pay on them when they arrive in the UK.

      I have had that happen to me where the seller will offer a paypal partial refund and when the actual refund is made it is less and did not include the paypal fees so you receive even less. Basically the seller outright lied with intent to defraud. I will never accept that kind of offer direct from the seller anymore. i use ebay most of the time because on ali its unclear when a seller supports paypal and if they support it, ali takes a fee..
    (it wasnt allways like that, they had a "this seller supports following payment options" indicator before but removed it)
    also their search is the worst on any platform i ever used, you never find what you looking for and when you sort by price it doesnt include shipping and hides most of the listings.
    sometimes you cant even search without logging in first wtf
    but sometimes you find stuff over there you wont find on ebay. but for stuff you find on both platforms, its usually cheaper on ebay
    theres a trick on european ebay, thats setting your browser language to english and use a vpn, if you live in germany you can almost double the results.

      Aliexpress doesn't support Paypal. If a seller has a Paypal account and accepts the payment, that doesn't mean Aliexpress supports it. In fact they clearly tell you to avoid paying outside the platform. In case of Paypal, nothing bad can happen if you do that, because of the buyer protection. I've done it a few times for more expensive items, but it's important to know, Aliexpress doesn't support it.

    European Union is about to change all of this! It may change our hobby and the individual innovation for good. VAT is about to change for small parcels (affecting all parcel below 150€; currently VAT is due only for parcels above 22€) and if VAT is to be collected by postal services the cost will skyrocket (here is more than 12€ per delivery...)! EU is a growing disappointment...

    • @geirthorud6581

      Norway will introduce VAT on parcels below aprox 40 usd from 1 april, in 20 days. Ebay, Aliexpress and similar are expected to collect the VAT, no payment on arrival. Expect the EU to do the same (?).

      @kenlewis6538 4 роки тому

      In Australia they added 10% GST ( our version of VAT) to all imports, down from a $1000 limit. The GST collected by the seller, I don't know how they do it but that is the way it works. If I buy from a small seller that may not export much to Australia then the GST is not applied.

    • @nunolourenco1532
      @nunolourenco1532 4 роки тому

      The EU Directive proposal is not very clear. It seems VAT may be collected directly by the platforms (much like Amazon does inside the EU(?), at least). BUT, if this is not the way (are they going to trust China to collect their taxes?) then is up to the postal services to do so (as is done currently). This is expensive: for 22euro parcels you pay the VAT and 12euro(?) for the postal Duane service. A few years back the VAT was only due to parcels above ~45euros, then the calculation changed (that exception was removed from the law) and, of course, the postal services ramped up their prices (twice!).

    • @geirthorud6581
      @geirthorud6581 4 роки тому

      It may not only require the platforms to collect the vat, but maybe it also requires special labeling on the package for correlation with the order - that could be a problem to implement fast when it is others than the platform that sends the package.
