"...This dude's signature..." made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt. The fact you referred to the President of Muramatsu of America as "this dude" was bold!
Hi Jen, when I saw your video in my feed I was like: "Oh, that's my Flute!". I just want to comment that I've had the GX heavy wall for about a year now ( I've named her Augustine). She's really great and I really recommend buying this flute. When I preform I'm told that my tone with this flute really carries throughout the room. I personally use a lot of air when I play so I guess the heavy wall really allows me to control my air. I also love the mechanisms, it really allows me to to be free in the faster sections of some pieces. Truly a masterpiece as a flute and I feel like maybe symbolically a bird in some way. Just thought I'd note to anyone who was looking to buy it. ^^
I'm in band and i just swapped instruments today (yamaha to muramatsu GX). I love it so much, i feel it's easier to play louder and it sounds beautiful😍i was so in love with the muramatsu i signed it out to take it home lol
Thanks for reviewing these flutes! I am actually deciding right now on whether or not get the tsubasa headjoint on the Muramatsu EX. I love the folks at FCNY. They have been so patient with me. Finding a new flute is so overwhelming!
good job! the Muramatsu flutes are really high end instruments. The brand has a consistency in the sound in the scale, and the Tsubasa hjoint works well for me. It helps in the sound and articulation. Therefore, it demands a good air support, and a resonance throughout the body and face. Nice that you compared the standard and heavy wall models. Regards!
Hey Joanna! Just an idea that came to mind; How about doing a review of various headjoints upgrade available (possibly different brands), for those who are looking into upgrading just the headjoint for beginner/intermediate flutes. Because it may be much affordable upgrade than to replace the entire flute. so yeah! =D
This Christmas I wanted to get an instrument to learn something new. I've been playing piano for 3 years but I wanted to learn another instrument. I was bouncing around from different instruments but settled on the flute after I found your channel. I absolutely fell in love with the flute! I bought the Di Zhao model 201from FNCY (using your code of course). I already have learned some of the basics, and can't wait to learn more. Thanks so much for inspiring me!
I've been waiting all week for your video! Your videos have been such a help for me in my flute journey this year. Keep up the outstanding work and have a great new year!!
hey, really great video! I have been struggling with my flexibility on my new muramatsu flute. what you mentioned about the ball thing has just helped me a huge amount! the same also goes about the tonguing! it's amazing to get new perspectives through your video's! thank you so much!
You're welcome!! I have a few students who have Muramatsu flutes, and being able to play around with 2 Muramatsus really helped enhance our lessons! :D I'm glad this video helped!!
Anna E Nuvo flutes are made of plastic and have silicone pads. They are interesting because people say they sound excellent despite being inexpensive and made of plastic.
They do have a nice sound, warm and mellow. In my experience in owning one, the mechanism is a bit mushy feeling and the upper registers can be harder to get out. They're designed as beginner flutes and for that they fit the bill. I honestly got mine so I could take some of the strain off my right shoulder (Nuvos are super light) and because I wanted the world's greatest bath toy.
i have a haynes classic headjoint on my ventus, and my friends were really shocked how little effort they needed to play it. I also found playing band music, many of my trick fingerings are surprisingly in tune. I often check the 8 Bb (thumb, lever, and standard 1+1) the 3 in the lowest, middle, and 2 in the highest (there is a good alternate Bb in the highest register that is flatter, but good for band keys or stable long notes especially on piccolo) i also check the open hole Ab trick fingering and they are in tune. I was surprised how well murimatsu flutes do in those registers, i checked it against a friend's altus and it has a very sweet sound comparatively. this is just what i know from trying them in comparison.
Great video! For me, I prefer the standard wall with the Tsubasa head joint.. I noticed that both flutes have a brighter sound in comparison to my flute :)
One thing that might be interesting to try is trying a flute brand's "intermediate" line like the Powell vs. the Powell Sonare; the Azumi vs. the Altus or the Amadeus vs. the Haynes. Try and keep the specs similar (solid silver body but plated mechanism) to see where the differences are (besides the prices!) +JustAnotherFlutist
I'd love to see you do a review of the Haynes Amadeus/Ventus line (I think they're the same, just different branding), particularly the Amadeus 680/Ventus 600, as that's my baby right now. I'd love to know what you think of it, but I'm sure you have more pressing reviews in the queue right now.
The case on my EX needs extra attention to close on the left side too! I hadn't registered that fact until watching this video - I wonder why? The flute sits very well in the case, the latch isn't obstructed at all.
I'm back again cause I just remembered something heh I'm looking to buy a new flute, and apparently I work really well with Trevor James, specifically the Cantabile and the Virtuoso But as far as reviews go, they're very mixed and I can't seem to find much about the actual durability of the flute (will I have to constantly send it to the shop?) I'm only going to be using it in wind ensemble but I want it to last a while so I don't have to spend another $1500+ :P If you know anything about that it would be really appreciated :3
Have you ever tried glissando head joints? Btw I am a first year flute major and you always get me inspired creatively and motivated to practice so thank you for that!!
I,m surprised muramatsu flutes don't do the painless construction on there flutes or maybe they do I don't know , or would there mechanism in pined form be better than the normal type because there known to be very reliable according to what I've read about them. interesting.
Can you talk more about the idea of the ball in your mouth and how you spit in? I am assuming you mean you are moving your tongue to create more space and move the ball. Dr. Perlove mentions something like this in one of her videos, but I have never heard anyone else talk about it. I was raised as a reed playing and the reed provides immediate resistance and controlling the air on the flute is a totally different beast.
Hi Jo! Love your videos as always :) May I ask if you can make a Review of Miyazawa Flutes!? I am playing a Yamaha 300+ series right now and would like to upgrade my flute to a Muramatsu or Miyazawa ♫♪ Lovely greetings, Just another fan of yours
The tone is nicer and the fingers grip or grab the instrument much much better, so you have better control when playing fast passages. You can buy an open holes instrument and keep the pads on the keys that make you problems to shut the hole. While doing so, push the pads inside the hole a little bit so you can feel the ring and hopefully get your fingers used to open hole.. good luck
I had this flute instructor for a conference held to help with an upcoming audition and they said you should never change your embouchure while playing and you should only change your air... is that right because I catch myself doing it all the time especially on piccolo.
It's really a combination of both, and each flutist will approach it slightly differently because it really depends on your natural mouth/embouchure formation. Have fun with it and experiment! :D
I have a question. I just purchased a flute after renting one for 3 years. It sounds really good, but there is one thing that's bugging me. The silver on the inside of my head joint is not shiny and looks 'cloudy' while the other joints are nice and polished. Should it look like that and I'm just being paranoid? It was reasonably expensive 😂
Thanks Joanna! Just discovered your flute review videos, very informative especially how you describe "how to make it ring". Whats more? You're reviewing my flute !!! I wish you would review the Garner Headjoints too!
Hello can anyone explain to me what muramatsu m-95 and m-120 are? Im trying to get a flute anf they were on sale. R they good? It was like 700 for 95 and 1200 for 120 plz help me
Read a lot of blogs in them,. I tried EX but decided better for long term to go for a GX. For beginner no big diff, but if you are advanced, you would find the GX better and DS far better. GX is full silver with better headjoint, build and care. It scores 4.9/5.0 on par with the equiv powell. EX scores 4.7/5 and rated less than a few other equiv in its class. If u can afford it get the GX as being full silver easier to maintain as well, silver plate will go one day. An oddball EX with a vg headjoint it could sound better than a GX with a mediocre hj as well, someone said that when trying many flutes...but from what i hear from Joanna, how one blows is very important. on first blow, u may be misled as we develop dif ways when used to another flute....so play and play and make your own decision. Either EX or GX is a good choice, but it is subjective because a powell, altus or miyazawa may be preferred for each individual over a marumatsu.
you inspired me to play the flute and now im 1st flutist
That's awesome!!
Thank God I’m a pianist.🤣

@@adelinepenguin5365 you take a $7,000 flute to public school band. k
very insightful, technical and so useful. speaks as entertaining as she blows. respect this Asian talent.

It would be interesting to see a review on the Nuvo flute. :)
I love my Nuvo. I play it in the swimming pool when I've got physical therapy.
aluvrianne imicara :o
Infamous Blader Whats special about a Nuvo?
Anna E Nuvo flutes are made of plastic and have silicone pads. They are interesting because people say they sound excellent despite being inexpensive and made of plastic.

I love your channel. All your videos are excellent. You do a great X-ray of all the flutes you test. Love it.

You sound well on that flute.
Yay! A review! Happy New Years!
Happy New Year!! :D Stay safe and have fun!!
Great review! Can you comment on the low register with standard vs. thick wall? You know, those chocolatey notes you like? (So do I) Thanks.
Amazing video! I love these reviews so much :)
I have been thinking about purchasing a Muramatsu GX for a while now. You’ve made up my mind for me!
The case on my EX needs extra attention to close on the left side too! I hadn't registered that fact until watching this video - I wonder why? The flute sits very well in the case, the latch isn't obstructed at all.
I have a GX and my case has the same issue!
please try the Amadeus flutes! 😹💖
I'm back again cause I just remembered something heh

I love the gizmo key lol
Can you upload more recordings of you playing pieces? Maybe play excerpts when testing the flutes.
your wall thickness is off on the muramatsu flutes. The heavy wall is .017 and the light wall is .015 and gold is .011.
[whispers] whistle tones [clears throat, speaks more forcefully] whistle tones [shouts in annoyance] WHISTLE TONES!!!
muramatsu flutes are my dream flute.
meanwhile, i fart around on an amazon flute
I,m surprised muramatsu flutes don't do the painless construction on there flutes or maybe they do I don't know , or would there mechanism in pined form be better than the normal type because there known to be very reliable according to what I've read about them. interesting.
Can you try a Burkart Elite 998 or a Powell Conservatory Aurumite? Thank you!! Love all your videos!!!!!
Both are on the list!! :D Glad you enjoy these! ^_^
JustAnotherFlutist ahh can't wait!! Looking forward to more awesome videos in 2017 Happy New Year!!
Have you done a video on circular breathing? If not, please do!!

Could you please compare regular(?) muramatsu gx and ds?
Hi Jo!
Love your videos as always :) May I ask if you can make a Review of Miyazawa Flutes!?

Lovely greetings,
Just another fan of yours
I live in Australia and I need a good cheap beginner flute do you have any ideas? Btw I love your vids ❤
Any chance on a review on the Pearl 695?
Putting that on the list!! Pearl is on my to-do list for 2017!
JustAnotherFlutist Thank you:)
With small hands, I prefer offset g and closed hole flutes. Can you explain why most concert/professional flutes are open hole and why? Thanks
The tone is nicer and the fingers grip or grab the instrument much much better, so you have better control when playing fast passages. You can buy an open holes instrument and keep the pads on the keys that make you problems to shut the hole. While doing so, push the pads inside the hole a little bit so you can feel the ring and hopefully get your fingers used to open hole.. good luck
Are you going to review a miyazawa 402/602 any time soon? I'd love to see another review video!
Very. Very. Soon. But you didn't hear that from me... ;)
Hi there Joana!!!
Is it possible ship to Brazil?
Is the tsubusa headjoint really good on all muramatsu flute models, or does it change a lot depending on the flute model?
Yey! another review!!! :)
WHEE
I have a muramatsu platinum clad
Do you have any tips for selling a flute? Specifically, a beginner model?
I took out my EX certificate when you said it was hand-signed XD. Hilarious.
i love these videos 👍👍👍
Hurray!!! These are really fulfilling to make, hehe!
Omg I just love you 😊
I had this flute instructor for a conference held to help with an upcoming audition and they said you should never change your embouchure while playing and you should only change your air... is that right because I catch myself doing it all the time especially on piccolo.

You haven't done a thanksgiving video this year. :(
please be so kind to answer , do you ship to mexico ?
thank you .

silver flutes tend to tarnish. it happened with my mateki as well
Michelle Lai yeah i thought it could be that but i wasn't sure. thanks for the reply :)
Xalauroit yeah, it is a step up from my old flute but it is still a student model. Thanks for your help!
It was like 700 for 95 and 1200 for 120
plz help me
hey Joanna,
you should do the pearl Quantz series cause i personally want to see an review on the model 765RBR XD -Chloe
ChloeCloe 13 hey! I have a pearl they are a really good brand :)
:)
Have a rough plan for flutes I want to review in 2017, and Pearl was definitely one of them!!
JustAnotherFlutist do you think you could review a professional pearl and a high end intermediate one? I have a pearl and it would be cool to see :)
I had to bring my flutes and my piccolo in for repair yesterday and I'm already having withdrawals 😩
Aw, poor babies!! Is it regular maintenance, or did something happen to them? 😱
JustAnotherFlutist there are some sticky keys, but it's mostly just regular maintenance! I just miss my girls 😭
Aw! They'll come back to you all fresh and ready for the new year!! ❤
JAF what do you think about the EX vs GX?

SAME!!
🙃
Where can i get the headjoint with the wings?
I've never clicked so fast lol
ChloeCloe 13 same 😂
LOL, hope you enjoyed it! :D
Sorry, but what is the "gizmo"? I'm Spanish and I don't understand because this word doesn't exist in spanish 😅
Maribel Orrego The word “gizmo” basically means “mechanism”.
hi
Standard wall sounded much richer.
On me ;)
