Russia releases dramatic cockpit video of helicopter attack on Ukrainian air defence positions

- Dramatic cockpit video shows what Russia says is a group of helicopters attacking Ukrainian positions. Moscow said the team hit air defence positions and Manpad anti-aircraft operators.
The helicopters deployed missile munitions and small arms using various manoeuvres which made it possible to carry out a tactical airborne assault landing operation on the airfield safely.
It comes as Mariupol city council says rescuers are continuing to clear rubble at the drama theatre and searching for survivors despite “continuous shelling”.
It said information about the victims “is still being clarified”.
More than a day after the air raid, there are no reports of deaths, and it is not clear how many people have emerged from the rubble.
One woman who said she had been preparing food for the people sheltering in the theatre said nearly 800 civilians were in the building when it was hit.

Two Ka-52 and Mi-8 helicopters were flying. Mi-8 with a landing party on board. The Ka-52 covered the Mi-8 which was fired from the ground. The Ka-52 was damaged, did not reach the base, sat down in the field. Then the landing party came and evacuated the crew of the ka-52. I know this by the fact that I watch the whole video, and San cuts out and shows only those pieces that are interesting only to San. Find alternative news sources, start thinking and analyzing at the end, and not stupidly believing what the TV shows.

For you to understand, the pilot of this helicopter later said that 18 attacks were made on him from manual air defenses during this flight.
For those living under a rock, this was during the air assault of the aifield on day 1 of the war, and no he didnt "land it" to abandon the heli, he was shootdown and was force to land...

The red lever is not the rotor brake or fire extinguisher like everyone else is saying. It is one of the two fuel cutoff valves. It is edited so you don't see it but he would have then pulled the other red lever next to that as the KA-50 has two turbine engines.
Rotor brake is not part of the evacuation checklist as it would not slow the rotor enough in the 5 seconds it takes to pull the fuel cutoffs and get out.

Flashing Red lights on an aircraft control panel are usually not a good thing.

Yes, he's saying he's got hit and experiencing engine malfunction. They they perform emergency landing and him & the co-pilot jump on the ground to await rescue. According to Russian MOD who released the original video, the pilots were rescued later on.
There was a hit from a stinger. When landing, he says: "Our gearbox is about to fall apart"
You can tell his fight is only just beginning as he gets out and lays down to begin assessing his circumstances.
There was also a video with the pilot's story that about 18 anti-aircraft missiles were fired at them in total. Video from February 24, 2022, the helicopter is likely to be evacuated as it landed on the territory of the Russian Federation.

This honestly looks like the area near Hostomel airfield. I think this is the 1st KA52 shot down in the early days of the war. Russia often releases these videos like weeks behind when they occurred.

I wouldn't say the first but it was definitely one of the earlier ones. The first image I saw of a downed KA-52 was from a different area and had a much rougher landing.

That's a rotor brake so they can leave the vehicle without worrying about getting sliced and diced. Under water too but you're not supposed to leave until it has come to rest, due to the auto rotation from the water passing whatever parts of the blade may remain. Water is thicker than air and can still force them to rotate.
Weird how no havoks have been downed yet in this war despite being active in the battlefield and most people arguing that Ka 52s are much superior.

We had to hold them off for a couple of hours until help arrived.

Reading the title of this video and then watching the video, I was surprised to see the helo landing and the pilots coming out. I half expected the pilots to assault on foot the air defense positions because they hated them that much and they ran out of ammo or something.
In fact, I don't understand the logic of posting such headlines (and, if it concerns the Russian army), maybe by adding drama, the media are gaining more views? As for the pilots, they had to make an emergency landing after the helicopter received heavy damage from shelling from the ground. At the moment, both pilots are alive and well, returned to the unit and, possibly, are on a mission again.
They didn't run out of ammunition, they just got destroyed on the ground, this KA-52 received severe punishment from the ground and still was able to land safely, after that more Russians helicopters arrived and rescued the pilot, he recorded more than this video shows.
This happened on February 24th, the first day of the war.

Um, no. HUD's Heads Up Displays were concieved of, created and installed in modern fighter aircraft since the 50's with rudimentary versions that were being tested in several forms and iterations as far back as WWII, some 50ish years before any video games had been invented.

Everyone survived, the next team of helicopter pilots evacuated the crew. Most importantly, they covered the Russian landing, repulsed 18 stingers and only damaged the blade gearbox. By the way, the helicopter 🚁 was later evacuated too.

It uses explosive and high fragmentation 30mm rounds.
