Hey guys! This episode of GBNF was made from suggestions from fans who emailed us demanding this show be covered on this series. If you want to make suggestions for future episodes of GBNF then e-mail GBNFSeries@gmail.com and maybe we’ll cover your show!
❤The stunts made the show….🎉I’m an 86 kid and the broken back jump on the freeway was epic❤ They killed so many beautiful cars…..I love all 1900-73 cars….all were beauties until money and gas crunch, many since, but that show derbyng them irons made me smile and laugh over and over and think, “that stuntman’s dead on that stuffed landing” 😂
I always wanted a prequel series about uncle Jessie and Boss Hogg when they were both younger men in Hazzard. At the very least it would have been a great flashback episode to do.
As someone who has pretty much made a career out of talking about The Dukes of Hazzard, I want to thank you for making this video. You told the history of the show with perfection. You did an incredible job, and I enjoy the fact that you kept it just about the show and not the controversy surrounding the car. Fantastic job, you have earned a subscription from me! I look forward to watching more of your videos soon!
When this show was on, I was just a very young kid. I always rooted for Rosco, he was my favourite character. I think he was just something I really warmed to, with his strange laugh, comical scenes with Boss Hogg and his sidekick bloodhound 'Flash' who he would chat too quite a bit.
John Schneider actually lives down the road from me and he started dirt track racing a few years ago and I helped with some of his race cars. Hearing some of the stories he would tell behind the scenes were really cool to hear and actually get to work on his general Lee was really cool as well
Man I loved this show, as well all you mentioned. But the General Lee was it. While everyone had the Heather Thomas poster on their wall growing up, I had a General Lee poster. Rewatched it a few years ago from start to finish with DVDs from the library. Friday nights were always this with my parents growing up. This was an awesome video, learned some things. And the Smallville episode had so many Dukes easter eggs
It’s so hard to explain how important this phenomenon was to a kid growing up in the South when this show was in its prime!! I couldn’t wait to watch it on Friday nights with my Dad. Truly good times!
Fun fact: Roscoe's iconic giggle is the same one he used to make his kids and his grandkids laugh, so he used it in the series. He said that he felt that giggle gave Roscoe more innocence than how he was originally written as. Originally, Roscoe was straight up corrupt but he wanted Roscoe more innocent, and it fit considering the show was marketed heavily to kids. I was born in late 93 so this show is a bit before my time, BUT in my childhood, CMT ran CONSTANT reruns of TDOH
James Best put such a lot of effort into Roscoe, just loved what they all brought to the show. It was for all of the family. We have not had anything like it since.
Here in the U.K. we never had homegrown shows like this so we had to make do with the U.S. shows like "Knight rider", "Airwolf", "A-Team", but "Dukes of Hazard" was my favourite. Daisy and the General lee had a profound affect on a teenage boy.
Thank you for the review! Well done and wonderfully accurate (other than the Cooter/Cletus mix-up)! So good to see a review done by a true (fellow) fan The Dukes of Hazzard who clearly watched and appreciated the show and understood its message!
@@JessicaDwyer Nice! I did not have many of the toys, but cherished my Dukes lunchbox. Still have it today! Did you have the “My heart belongs to Bo” nightgown?!? How did you learn Luke was a Vietnam Veteran? We all know he served in the Marines, but do not recall a Vietnam reference? Thank you again for this! I can tell by your writing you loved the show like myself and so many others!
I was six years old when the cousins were made to replace the originals and being a dumb kid and not really knowing the show before I actually liked them. But I also liked scrappy do when I was six so what did I know?
That is why I boycotted in watching The Dukes Of Hazzard when Coy and Vance stepped in the series during John Schnieder and Tom Wopat dispute over the merchandise and other issues. I still feel though that they should have brought back in one of the reunion movies Coy and Vance at least because they were a part of the show. I would have liked to have seen Hughey and Dewey Hogg in the reunion. I am just saying because they were a part of the show during certain episodes while the series ran.
Schneider and Wopat leaving the show due to not getting a piece of the percentage for merchandising was talked about during the E! True Hollywood Stories about this show.
The series can be viewed in 1080P on streaming. It is so clear that details can be seen such as the General Lee's roll cage made of PVC Pipe and Duct tape, and other details never meant to be seen on old tube televisions in the 80's.
I watched this show all the time and loved the chases and antics them Duke boys got into and the General Lee as well. And yes... Daisy Duke was floating around in my dreams as well. I don't think it can be made now either. It's just goofy fun with what now could be problematic stereotypes and bad affilations. But I'm happy to have grown up with it.
I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazzard, every Friday night I'd be right there in front of the TV 😁 I had the BIGGEST crush on Bo Duke 🥰🥰🥰 Still love to watch John Schneider in anything, he was SO ICONIC as Jonathan Kent on Smallville as well ❤️💗🩷
Here in the UK we got to watch this on Saturday mornings during the 80s along with Little House on the Prairie and Huckleberry Finn if I remember correctly. Then I’d go out and play for the rest of the day!
cool fun fact......when i got my first real computer, got on AOL for the very first time, the very first thing i searched for on the "Internet" was Dukes of Hazzard. LOL
I watched Dukes of Hazzard as a child. I don't remember much about the show but I still love the video games to this day. The dukes of Hazzard would make a great modern video game in my opinion. 🤞
There's people that are still chasing that model, and specifically the cars that were actually filmed for the show. I mean they get down to the specific color code, tires, engine, and everything.
Cooters place in Gatlinburg was great. I got to meet them all except Tom Wopat once. They had almost the whole cast there meeting people. I still have my shirt I had them all sign. Very nice people and Cooter is a class act. Great guy.
And we all have to make sure we give our thanks and remember the sacrifice that was made by Richie, Buddy and The Bopper for taking that plane as Waylon gave up his seat and was able to stay alive to create one of the most beloved and icon theme songs.
Great Job on this.... Upsetting however to see my work show up in this... but I had to expect it I guess. Anytime there's Dukes, there's a Dixie horn. And somehow, my work inevitably shows up. The horn heard at around 11:35 is actually my horn taken from my website. And also the sound I sold to Warner brothers for the 2005 movie. Since then, it's showed up everywhere I would least expect it. Cell phone rings, Family Guy, even the Dukes General Lee Cars. Much like Bo and Luke, I didn't get paid for the extra stuff it was used for. It just kills me... but what can you do? Anyway, very nice job on the video. George F. South Carolina USA
I still have my Dukes record and slot car too. along with my general lee where the top opens up and you can put the guys in there. :) Sorry for the posts. Just love this show growing up and still do.
I loved this show and looked forward to it every Friday. That being said, I really enjoyed the 2005 movie. It was shot well, the stunts were good, I thought the cast did a really good job.
My sister and I would spend Friday nights at my grandparents' house, and we always watched Dukes of Hazzard and Hulk. Good times! I sure miss my grandparents 🥲
Interesting fact about Sorrell Booke is that whenever he appeared at Dukes of Hazzard conventions, he always appeared as Boss Hogg in full costume, correctly believing that the children in attendance would want and expect to see Boss Hogg and not Sorrell Booke and he never wanted to let them down. What a lovely man and wonderful actor.
I agree with the last Dukes movie being buried. I tried to watch it a few weeks ago. I stopped it about 15 minutes in. At least the 2005 movie was finishable.
This show was my favorite as a child so much it was used against me by my mom & sister who would force me to go to be at 7:30 when the Dukes came on and they'd play the show loud enough to hear the theme song then change the channel. They just knew it was the one thing that would make me break down and cry, not sure what books my mom read about parenting but...
I LOVED the original show. I remember watching it while I was growing up and I was on 7 when it 1st came out. Them Dukes them Dukes. Gee gee. Buckle up Flash😊

I was 14 just shy of 15 when the series premiered and I was instantly hooked so bad that I found a 69 Charger in a local junk yard when I turned 17 and my father and I restored it and a friend who was a sign maker did the graphics for the 01's,flag,lettering and it became one of the earliest replica's around my area. It's just a shame that the current "WOKE" movement has deemed the show "racist" due to the Battle Flag of the confederacy is on the roof and now the show is "banned" from normal TV and only available through certain streaming channels.Anything even remotely related to the confederacy is now taboo so us fans who have replica cars are automatically assumed racist.
A show I watched so many reruns of on cmt even growing up in the early 2000’s and missing out on the original run I loved every minute of the series though the season without Bo and Luke wasn’t the best all the other characters helped keep it together

As kids we watched it for Bo and Luke. My dad only watched it for Daisy. It had something for everyone.
Seriously? I was three years old when the series began and even at that age I wanted to see Daisy. The epic car chases were a close second, but still.
The Dukes of Hazzard is a timeless 80's classic from the Golden Era of Television. You just cannot replicate the magic of this long running show
Them duke boys got themselves in a mess of trouble this time
DOOOO DOOO DAAAAAH. LOL. that Lil freeze frame jingle. Lol.
❤The stunts made the show….🎉I’m an 86 kid and the broken back jump on the freeway was epic❤
They killed so many beautiful cars…..I love all 1900-73 cars….all were beauties until money and gas crunch, many since, but that show derbyng them irons made me smile and laugh over and over and think, “that stuntman’s dead on that stuffed landing” 😂
Just a good Ole Boy
Where them duke boyz at!
I always wanted a prequel series about uncle Jessie and Boss Hogg when they were both younger men in Hazzard.
At the very least it would have been a great flashback episode to do.
They had an episode that did that in the series & in the PlayStation game
@@subreel12000 I remember the flashback episode to when they first found the general Lee. But nothing going back to Jessie and Boss’s younger days.
That would have definitely been interesting to see and to add a back story even further with that idea is the parents of Bo, Luke, and Daisy possibly?
General Lee wasn’t just a car, he was a character.

I must say this review did the series justice, well done.
I half expected them to say something about "problematic".
@@leroylowe5921 I was waiting for it too.
agreed
10:47 That's NOT Cooter. That's Cletus who was portrayed by Rick Hurst. Otherwise, great video. Loved the show as a kid.
I was starting to question my knowledge of the show when they said Cooter was a police officer. Thank you for confirming it first.
The Dukes of Hazzard will always be one of my favorite TV shows.

I grew up near the hills where the show was filmed. It wasn’t unusual to find a demolished and abandoned General Lee for us kids to play on.

But, but you had the doombolt chase.
I’m watching the Dukes of Hazzard right now on DVD. I also collected the 4 movies. In season 3 right now. Been enjoying it
Did I see a Ford Gran Torino in red with a white stripe at 4m10?
The car used by Starsky and Hutch in the 70s tv show 😃
Thank you for the review!
Well done and wonderfully accurate (other than the Cooter/Cletus mix-up)!

I miss this show. As you said it was kinda perfect for its time. literal lightning in a bottle.
I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazzard with my dad. Rosco P. Coltran, Boss Hog, & Daisy Duke where my favorite. The cousins were awful replacements.
Yeah, the "cousins" were pure shit. Yet, Hollywood still makes that same mistake today. That and many other mistakes I don't need to list.😊

This show is yet again a good example of how casting can make or break a show.
John Schneider said he did most of the stunts with the driving sequence.
There will never be shows as good as The Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, and The A-Team
I grew up watching reruns on TNN and it was awesome
My 9 and 10 yr old kids love the show. So dated in some ways, yet timelessly enjoyable.

I absolutely love this old show. I was born in 77. I always got hungry watching boss hog eat
I salute the heroic voice actors who dubbed this show for Latin America. I used to love it, I had a great time with it.

Take This Job and Shove It. My dad had that bumper sticker on his pickup truck in the 1970's
Tom Wopat lived in my hometown of Dayton, Tennessee, for a while. He may still be there. My friend from high school used to babysit his kids.
Nobody talks about the yellow car Daisy had BEFORE the white Jeep. The one that ended up crashed and burned. I think it was a ´73 Roadrunner.
I thought it was a challenger but no one talks about it.

Because of the way James Best would say Roscoe's name, as a kid I thought the character was "Roscoe Pecole Train".

The actor playing Boss Hogg's last name is Booke, like what you would find in a library, not Brook.
And all the times you mentioned Ben Jones and Cooter, you showed footage of Rick Hurst and his character Cletus.
Here's a rundown while you're waiting for the commercials to run off
The Dukes of Hazzard ran from 1979-85 on CBS as a midseasom replacement for "The Incredible Hulk", by 1981, the show made millions in merchandising, by 1982, John Schneider and Tom Wopat (who played Bo and Luke) left the series due to poorly written scripts and issues with likeness usage, they walked off for 19 episodes, the scab Dukes didn't pan well, and the ratings took a nosedive, after the 19 episodes, Schneider and Wopat returned and the series ended up never recovering and got canned 2 seasons later
I have a Boss Hog figure still. I laugh all the time that the figure has a cigar in his hand
James Best lived in Irmo South Carolina not too far from where I grew up.
I thought the show was stupid, but watched it every week... and it wasn't to see the car! 😍
I used to ask my parents if they would roll the window down and let me get in through the window.
It's both Amazing and Disgusting how the REBEL FLAG was edited out of Every Shot showing the car.

Yes, it's ridiculous... I grew up in the south, and the only thing that flag ever meant to me (and anyone I knew) was "pride in your southern roots."
