Now let's give the super beetle guys some love! No one has ever created an after market high quality spindle for the super.... that could change now that you guys are stepping up your game! My 1303 with your new super beetle forged spindles and provisions for those calipers would compliment my rear single pot wilwoods perfectly! 😁 You'd have to make a 2-bolt and 3-bolt version but hey.... engineering is what you guys are good at right!?!?
Way overkill for a 1ton vehicle but they do look good. I have a set on my escalade. They make me want to stop hard. Not jerky but smooth. Took a few pounds off rotating mass.. handles lighter. Cold stops are noticeable in my neighborhood until they warm up. Then they get better. I highly recommend on larger vehicles 6k dollars is a little high tho
Looks like a high-quality kit. I would be interested in an option without dropped spindles in order to keep things stock. Also, if you sold a front and read package with Wilwood, I would be sold. I realize this is overkill for a stock car (1600cc), but I prioritize the safety and performance aspects.
Thanks Mike -yes it is a high quality kit, the EMPI team spent many engineering hours with Wilwood to create a kit that works as good as it looks. And the Wilwood rear disc brake kit solves all of the install and functionality problems of the other kits on the market. Other spindle options are in the works- please stay tuned
Hi Luco, please see the Wilwood rear kits here: empius.com/products/?_sf_s=wilwood+rear+brake+kit I will ask our Tech team for alternatives for your bolt pattern
YIKES! It's damn near dangerous to sell this kit while no comparable rear brake kit exists. Just call up wilwood, brake bias is CRITICAL. That much brake on the front of a beetle is downright wrong. You're basically creating a system that will instantly lock the front tires, no weight transfer will happen, and then you'll have to keep that tire grinder going as you dig into the pedal and stop using only the rear brakes, forfeiting all steering and front brakes. This kit would rock... if there was a matching rear kit. As is, yikes yikes yikes. No bias valve will overcome that mismatch.
@Mo Powwa Yes but that hardware bias is still so insanely out of whack to the point where the four pots would just be for show. I have the ghia caliper front setup with cb parking brake rears. With no valve it's a good bias for a street car, more performance was gained by shifting it even further rear with a bias valve. This is on sticky tires, hard tires will have even less bite in the front.
@Mo Powwa Well first we must understand what the average consumer will do, which is simply bolt on a kit and call it done. A straight bore master won't change bias, only pressure. A stagger bore master can change bias, but those are rare. You could run larger rear wheel cylinders and that will help, but again, most people won't do that. When I had a front only setup on my car, there was very very little braking power beyond just a typical grocery run once you dug in. When I went to sticky tires there was a fairly large jump because it could start to weight transfer and put the front end to work, but in rain that immediately went right back out the window. IMO even the typical ghia caliper setup is too much to be used with stock rear drums and rear discs and/or a bias valve is a MUST. But hey, it's only safety and people will just parrot whatever bullshit some guy on the internet says about weight transfer and "the front of your car does 70% of the braking". I sure did, and it could be part of the reason I crashed into a ditch once. Certainly was driver error, but once that car was pointing towards the ditch, nothing I did could stop it.
@Mo Powwa If they made a matching rear kit it'd be fucking awesome. Not enough truly good brake hardware for beetles, and wilwood could easily fill that gap with their calipers, especially with their parking brake calipers and such. But a 2500$ front brake kit with no matching rear kit ain't it. To me, they're punting responsibility of setup to the customer, and that's really not exactly possible with this kit. It's just too much given what we can get for the rear (off the shelf).
@Mo Powwa Yeah the issue is, that's not how people are. I even bicker with people on this issue because they've never driven a beetle, let alone modified the braking system. That "70% of the braking is at the front axle" line is so engrained in car culture they just assume you can't have too much front brake. Legally it's the consumer's responsibility, but we all know that's not how people are.
Please note our Engineering team worked directly with Wilwood and their engineers over 6months to ensure a safe and effective braking system and FYI the rear kit is launching next month
Really glad EMPI has returned to a high quality standard. People running the older VW's want suff that's better not cheaper, imho.

WIDE 5 ROTORS
Great video!
Oh man, I haven’t even fitted my 2 piston kit yet and you guys come out with this!!i
thanks Craig-now get to work!
Muchas Felicidades Joven Por Su Canal.
Saludos Cordiales Desde Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México. ..
I'm not going to change the wide 5 wheels I'm running so I can use this kit. Offer a wide 5 rotor.
thanks for the feedback -we will share your feedback with our Product Development team
Great presentation Rob
thanks for the compliment-this was a fun one!
Great kit.
Bus ?
Wish I had this kit 2 years ago when I did this on my transporter. Had to get the CPI kit. Seems to work fine and still using my 14's
Nice nice kit.
does these brakes fit stock oem factory wide5 15 inch rims thanks
Do they make a link pin kit

Are you guys thinking about making this kit with 3 inch raised spindles for the overland and Safari type cars?
thanks for the feedback, I will share with our Product Dev team
That would be a great offering!!!

awesome product. Do you offer this brakes kit without the Spindle?
Coming soon
Rear kit for the Bay windows?
great empi, but is there a vented kit and wilwood rear kit in the thinking?
Rear kit launching soon-
so do you make this kit with the new 356 drop spindles for the king and link? and with the scalloped rotors? if so I'm sold,
Thanks for the feedback John I will let our Engineering team know of your interest
I’m after spindles for my 73 kombi where can I purchase them thanks
Fabricam cabeçotes competição?
Good day, do you have any Wilwood brand rear system with emergency brake for 4-130 beetle?
