Any qi charger will work with the watch; for traveling, you can use a smaller 3rd party wireless charging device. Also, you can use nato straps (I think it's a 22mm lug width) with the watch - that really opens up your styling options, makes changing straps incredibly easy (since you don't remove the pins), and lets you purchase longer straps (which are easily tucked away) for wear over a wetsuit. I also feel that this is a more secure approach that is less likely to see your watch lost due to a broken strap or pin. I use a long strap for diving and then change it out for another strap to wear so that the first strap can dry and I'm not wearing a wet strap all day.
do NOT use a phone charger to charge your teric. spoke with Richard Morton of Divetronix (shearwater service center) and they push too much power in and greatly reduce the life of the battery
Excellent review. I like the fact that you're showing an actual "on the field" screen underwater which is not always the case in other reviews. Thanks for the video.
That intro is pure Oscar! Also i decided for the Descent MK2i! Used it for some days now, and i am blown away by its abilities! Teric looks sweet as fuck too! But battery life sold me. Good work on reviews mate, and stay safe out there!
James, also Teric is great as a "holiday" dive computer. I have a Perdix (main computer) and Teric as backup / holiday Dive computer. this way you don't need to take Perdix for few holiday's dive and you have a watch and dive computer at the same time 🙂
James your production quality is top notch. Great review I love my teric and you did a great job speaking to why the computer is so loved. Keep up the great work!
Love my Teric and agree 100% with your assessment. My only additional (minor) gripe about the computer is that I have to place the very delicate screen protector on it myself. For what the system costs, it should come with the screen protector installed.
I've had a Teric now a few years. It replaced my old Suunto D9 as travel/backup computer for OC dives. For me it is very important that main and backup computers use the same algorythm and private settings (gradient factor in this case). Having Perdix AI as main the Teric has suited well as backup. For CC use the rebreather has a Petrel 2 as controller/computer and my Perdix fits well as backpu for those dives. Having all computers the same brand makes everything easier. One cool feature for all Shearwater computers is the updates installable by the user.
I have the chinese new 2020 limited edition and has the bronze bezel as well. Very awesome computer, I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I bought it for a March 2020 Princess cruise in the Carribean.
Love my Teric! Had it since Sep 2018. Mainly used as a holiday computer but in the UK it also fits on my camera arms so that I always have it in line of sight
OK I've bought the Teric and have been diving with it. Nice in SM. Only one complaint: When putting it in the cradle the watch display switches off after like 20 seconds. Why have even a "Desktop" kind of mode if you can't use it as a "Desk" watch?
I have a Perdix and a Teric. I wear them on the same arm. I like that the Teric is easier to read. I never use it as a watch. I have multiple straps for my Perdix cut to different lengths. I do wish they would have different length extenders for the Teric.
Nice review I needed to buy a new computer recently but I opted for a $200 puck style the same brand as the one that I was replacing as I won't need nearly the capability that the shearwater or garmin offer for the type and frequency of diving that I do. I very much liked the intro sequence nice job with the artistic shots.
I've had my Teric for about 3 years now and absolutely love it. I was in Socorro a couple of weeks ago and the dive masters were talking about reliability issues with the Teric. I DID have an issue with my battery, but Shearwater replaced it under warranty and sent it back to me 2nd day air. This has been the only problem I've had with it in 3 years. As others have said, I typically bring my iphone wireless charger for trips and it allows me to charge both my phone and my watch. It charges very fast so it has never been an issue. My only complaint I have with it is I would like to be able to set custom alerts for depth like I have been able to set on other watches in the past. Depending on my gas mix, I like to set an alarm to notify me prior to max depth. It comes in handy when you are diving in the blue and find yourself suckered in by one of those evil dolphins or Mantas...
nice review. So I have the petral on my prism 2 with a Nerd. I also have a perdix that I use on most of my OC dives, spear fishing, etc... Man I really want one, they are so cool. My opinion shearwater has the best deco mixed gas dive model. Way ahead of the game with deco stops and dive planning.
I have had my Teric snice 3/2020 and love it. But yeah I wish the battery was better, even on lower brightness settings it doesn't change the battery life in any major way. You can any Qi changer btw, I have a skinny flat one that i take with me on trips that works for my phone and my Teric for charging. Your upcoming Mk2 vs Teric should be interesting. While the Mk2 as you have shown in the past has a bunch of other features mainly none diving features, the sonar transmitter that you showed off for it is got to be a deal breaker lol. Comments on that video should be fun 😁
Good factual video. And gotta say that I adore the colour of the bezel. Mine is from 2019 and have to admit it is a lovely computer to own and use. The charger that comes with it can be a bit fiddly and sometimes takes a try or 2 to connect. But that is not an issue. I want to add that on the go you have some options with charging. - do you have a standard wireless phone charger? Good. That works aswell. - does your car have a wireless charger for your phone built in? Slap the teric on there and you're good to go. - a small powerbank with for example a single 18650 with the original charger for use on a boat in between dives works great. - check if your phone has the option to charge another phone wirelessly. If you have that turn it on, put the computer on the back and you're set!. It's already amazing that the computer is so compact. So having a 2 day battery is barely a downside. Another great video. I love my Teric but I have a question about the the Shearwater log. I can see my programmed gases, but I can't find where it shows the actual selected gas. I change Nitrox mixes depending on the planned depth of the dive and have been entering the mix I used manually.

Were there any issues with loosing connection under water? Not interested in spending over $1000 on a device that I'm going to constantly have to be reaching back to the transmitter to reconnect. Anyone have this issue?
I love mine. As I’m not doing any Tec diving yet it’s over kill but a well featured watch. I haven’t found the free-dive mode yet which I tried to use when snorkeling recently. I Haven’t been able to keep the screen on yet in ‘watch mode’. It’s a bit frustrating. The screen protectors could have been a little bigger and robust.
Still think a bigger screen and cheap backup works better. Just hoping someone builds a curved screen for human curved arms. Might we see diver masks with Head up display on demand.
There are two issues with my Teri. 1. It’s so easy to get scratch. 2. It’s freediving mode is terrible. It makes every descend a separated dive. They should be grouped together. The mobile app is not the best but fine. Others are all good.
The screwdriver isn't proprietary, it is a metric size, like 1.5mm IIRC. I got a couple of nicer ones from Wiha to make strap changes easier as I am the Teric killer, due to killing at least a dozen batteries. Which BTW is yje same screw size as the Swift transmitter. I also think the factory straps suck. I use Perdix straps. They are ugly but they work. But so are my computers after two years dragging them through rocks in caves.
The strap isn’t that bad, I’ve had a few watches with similar pin system, my Garmin Watch has a nice mount System with a permanent pin on the watch face itself and retractable button on the strap that grabs onto the pins. I haven’t really tested the durability of that system, the replaceable pin seems more robust and repairable to me… but 🤷🏼♂️
Don't leave it on the charger when you don't charge the Teric : it discharches the battery somehow ! (could be why some people have some problems with the battery)
Thank you as always James, you are a treasure. This looks very much like a dive computer from top to bottom. Also the menu and customization options look like its built from ground up, including the operating system. I will likely go for the Teric soon as I dont think someone will gift me a garmin to literally take apart :D The Garmin smells to much of Android for my gusto and they dont say otherwise. Even though I am not sure, I really don't want the risk of bringing a swiss army knife when I need a real knife. I dont think that the software Backbone of Android is reliant enough to be feasible in a dive computer. Its just to versatile for the job. So IF the Garmin WOULD be based on Android it would be a technical KO imho... But im really kinda geeky with that, so take it with a grain of salt & your opinion may vary.
For those with nearsightedness and uses this computer.....can you see it underwater😂? Trying to decide which Shearwater to purchase. I like the Teric, but Im concerned I will not see the numbers or symbols. Id rather not use the corrective lens for in mask.
I'm farsighted, have my little correction glasses in the mask, and had no problems. Actually, compared to the EON steel that my daughter was wearing, OMG - she showed me something on it under water (and I had used that computer for years) - and I couldn't even read it. Once you're used to the Teric display you won't go back.
@@matthiasnott ; Thank you. The mask I have, has the readers on the bottom. Im exaggerating😂, but its like looking through a microscope from three inches away. I just ordered another mask with readers, to see if I like them better. I also ended up ordering the Shearwater Perdix2 with transmitter. If I happen to dive with someone with a Teric, I'll ask to borrow it and see if it works for me. I could always sell the Perdix2 later.

So IF the Garmin WOULD be based on Android it would be a technical KO imho... But im really kinda geeky with that, so take it with a grain of salt & your opinion may vary.
That was a great intro b roll dude :)
Thanks for your support!
Perdix AI FTW though
Technically an excellent video with professional video and audio... But the content is mostly fluff without a lot of solid data.
Looks like you could possibly use a zulu or nato strap with that watch couldn't you?
Yes, I think Shearwater has a NATO strap but it's came blue and looks shit with the bronze bezel in my opinion.
v good review , perdix AI it is
So i’ve been watching your videos for about 2 years and now I discover I hadn’t subscribed 🤦🏽♂️
It is just me or the beguining of the video is a James Bond Dive style intro !!! lol
I could always sell the Perdix2 later.
.
Too long intro
All is good except for its poor battery life 🫤
