Takes me back a bit. Lived up in Townsville back in 96/7. Down in Eyre St near the Strand, across from the old hospital. Fished all the drains around town and the mangrove swamps below Oonoomba, across from South Townsville (the sand fly memories still cause me to shudder!). Nice barra, a bit of fun for the lads. I miss cast netting for mullies and prawns. Sharks and catties LOL. Try landing a good mac, you will find the sharks. We used to get 3 or 4 fish in before the crew turned up for a feed. TBF, the Remora could be a lot of fun on light gear. Great video mate. Looked like a fun day out with the boys.
I've caught barra there and one had no fight like yours took it home just to see what they taste like from there cut it open and it had a huge toad in its guts that turned to jelly
For the lakes drains on woolcock St any tide as long as its not heat of the day so morning & evenings. For the other drains when the gate closes on a high of around 2.5m is good 👍 big tides aren't great like a 3m
Never seen a "catch and release" sign. If what your referring to are seasonal "water quality" warning signs then these were put up when there was algal bloom.

I never thought of that it could've been a sick one based on the way it was fighting very unusual. Thanks man 🤙
just watch for the croc that lives in there hes at least 1.5-2m. there is a croc cage over the other side of the lake
Hey cheers I've never seen him but heard a few sightings

Please DO NOT eat anything from those lakes 😅 there are signs warning you to catch & release because of the bacteria built up in there.
