I live in LA. I grew up going to the Tar pits and natural history museum. I am always fascinated that these beasts once roamed this big landscape that is now filled with millions of people.

WWB needs a remake (one that doesn't skip the Miocene at that), also great music choice, sounds very tribal and ominous...

Glad to see there are more people to whom the walking with beasts series had such a profound impact ! These creatures even though they’re long gone to us they still live in our imagination and our passion to discover their untold stories...besides, time is relative and the past maybe isn’t even past at all..

much better than those made by young earth creationist. theirs is full of bullshit like it's more of an propaganda video than an educational. like they purposely lie about what evolution is all about like they think it's crossbreeding. or they won't accept birds are dinosaurs so they an

0:27 I did! Although dinosaurs were my original love, Walking with Beasts was the "Walking with" documentary I grew up with. I watched and rewatched the main episodes + their behind the scenes bonus features unrepentant. Love to see the series touch another soul so deeply, your passion is infectious!

Anyone else hear Paleowolf's instrumental "Direwolf" in the background? That skull is intimidating as hell man. It's insane. I wish these megafauna were still here.

The Dire Wolf (Aenocyon dirus) is still a wolf just not in the genus Canis anymore, in fact, wolves are not the same thing as the Grey Wolf (Canis lupus), a wolf is any dog that is larger than foxes, jackals (including the coyote), and wild species with the word "dog" in their name, therefore the Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus), Ethiopian Golden Wolf (Flavocyon simensis), Common Golden Wolf (Flavocyon lupaster), White Wolf (Canis albus), and Red Wolf (Canis rufus) are also wolves, in fact, wolves are actually a polyphyletic group and are not a taxonomically defined or natural grouping, which is why there are living and extinct genera of dogs with species called "wolves", the new genus Aenocyon is not closely related to any extant genus within the subtribe Canina, instead it was actually basal within it, the genus Aenocyon contains seven species, Aenocyon variabilis, Aenocyon armbrusteri, Aenocyon ferox, Aenocyon gezi, Aenocyon nehringi, Aenocyon edwardii, and Aenocyon dirus (Dire Wolf), the Dire Wolf (Aenocyon dirus) is the type species of this genus and Aenocyon variabilis is the only known representative of the genus not found in North America and instead native to Eastern Asia and is the most basal within the genus, since the genus Aenocyon actually originated from the old world like all members of the subtribe Canina, the genus Aenocyon split from the rest of Canina many years ago, following the split of the subtribe Canina (contains the genera Lupulella, Lycaon, Flavocyon, Cuon, Prolupus, and Canis) from the subtribe Vulpina (contains the genera Vulpes, Neocyon, Alopex, Fennecus, Otocyon, and Nyctereutes), both subtribes Vulpina (contains 6 genera: Vulpes, Neocyon, Alopex, Fennecus, Otocyon, and Nyctereutes) and Canina (contains 6 genera: Lupulella, Lycaon, Flavocyon, Cuon, Prolupus, and Canis) are part of the tribe Canini, thus redefining Canini to originate exclusively from the old world.
