Hey Boone, I've been following your tutorials on GeoLayers and have found them extremely helpful. I'm currently working on a project where I need to add an ocean from one satellite imagery into a different one within GeoLayers. I’m struggling a bit with how to blend and composite the ocean seamlessly into the new imagery while maintaining accuracy and realism. Could you possibly create a tutorial covering this technique? I’m sure it would be valuable for others too who are looking to improve their map animation skills in GeoLayers. Thanks for all the great content, and I appreciate your time!
Hello! Thanks for the suggestion. Indeed this is a tough part of the workflow, as there are so many options. GEOlayers comes with the Natural Earth watermask comp, but the edges don't give great detail for large scale maps. Depending on your zoom level, you could create mattes for small scale and large scale. You could use open street map data for the large scale situations (zoomed in) to get more detail, and then the Natural Earth watermask comp for small scale. It's a bit complicated when you introduce long zooms into your project. If you have maptiler, it solves this problem. I'll add a video to my to do list!
Cool tutorial! I came to a similar pipeline when creating arrows. To make the effect even cooler I would add a Taper modifier to the main lines of the arrows.
Choker for the win. Another cool trick is to place the arrowheads above the adjustment layer, which will give you super sharp arrowheads and then you can keep the curves of the path.
at 6:55 I was shortly worried you wouldnt arrange the layers in the same way 😮 like a psycho but luckily you came to senses! apart from that, thanks so mich for this tutorial!
Hi boone! If we want to reverse the paths of the layer and arrows to converge on the single line instead of it spreading out like branches, what should be done? I have reversed the path direction of all the shape layers but the trace path does not seem to have a reverse option.
Great question! If you've already got it rigged up and you want to switch directions, it's a few steps. First, time reverse the keyframes of Null. Then parent the Start parameter of the trim path animator to the progress of the Null, and remove End. Then I'm assuming you just rotate the arrowhead. Give that a try!
Hello! Can I ask which specs do you have for smooth working with Geo layers, because i have 32gb of ram, ryzen 9590x and gtx 1650 4gb, and everyday after 2 hours of editing i have to start over again because my pc is dying, geolayers is bugging and sometimes map doesn't load on some frames and sometimes my quality sucks so i can't fix it. Can you answer me pleasee because im going crazy. Thanks
Hello! I have an ASUS Zenbook Pro duo laptop. You have to focus on changing the parameters of After Effects and GEOlayers to get it to function smoothly. Do things like clear your cache, turn down the preview frame rate and resolution, etc.
Please answer my question, I couldn't find a solution anywhere When I 'Pre-Compose' the two separate maps I drew with GEOlayers 3, the maps I drew disappear. I'm waiting for your help
Hello! You're precomposing two mapcomps? You can't really precompose in GEOlayers as normal. Everything is attached across precomps, so you break those connections. You have to create mapcomps and then draw features inside of them. Or use the precomp script in the GEOlayers panel, which I'm pretty sure only works on individual shape layers.

did this in the 90s in 3dsmax... you could argue this is easier but its just a thing(tribal wars west Africa)
Thankyou Sir i have learned alot from here ❤
Thanks!
Literally in the planning for a WW2 animation that this is perfect for. Thanks man.
Awesome happy to hear that!
Good one. Thank you. The matte-choker effect is like a little treasure that can be used in the oddest places.
Absolutely!

For real! I was kicking myself after I finished the tutorial and started making the thumbnail that I didn't taper. It would look so much better. :)
Thank you Boone. Greetings from Pakistan
What's up Pakistan! Love you all.
Thanks for the guide!
You bet!
As always, one of your biggest fans!
Love you pops!
the absolute goat!
Thanks 🐐
Excellent!! Thank you ❤
Welcome!

How do I "Covert the Bezier Handle" to fix the weird rotation at the end of the path.

good , but i have aproblem when i start finaliz in geolayer some times it doesn't start finaliz
thanks in advanced
It doesn't start to finalize in advance? What does this mean? If you go into the mapcomp settings you can clear the cache and refinalize.
