From South Carolina, The Marshall Tucker Band is a blend of blues, country and jazz. From the beginning of the flute at the start you know it's going to to be great. This Old Cowboy Ramblin' Fire on the Mountain Can't You See, which you reacted to already, was their biggest hit. Glad you loved it Craig. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
They helped establish the southern rock genre in the 70's. Such a blending of different music styles. Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZTop would be other HUGE Southern Rock bands. Any songs of these three bands you will not be disappointed in.
MTB is one of the best ever! Don’t miss the Allman Brothers! The Allman Brothers Band lines up heavily on the Blues side of Southern Rock. Duane Allman was one of the two lead guitarists with Dickey Betts. If you’re familiar with Layla by Eric Clapton, Duane created the guitar riff at the beginning of it and played on the track. Clapton wanted Duane to play in his band but he instead wanted to pursue an independent band with brother Gregg. Their first album release (1969) had been out for almost two years when Duane tragically was killed in a motorcycle crash (1971.) Gregg also passed away in 2017, there’ll never be another voice like his. Both are sorely missed. Check out Soul-shine, Dreams, Midnight Rider, Whipping Post, Statesboro Blues, and on and on ..... Ramblin’ Man has I think the strongest country sound and is one that Dickey Betts sings lead. The live recordings at the Fillmore East are the best and you can hear and appreciate Duane on the early ones. Great reaction! ♥️ FYI - Craig, one of the best documentaries I’ve ever watched is about Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals Alabama. I’m dropping the link here for the trailer: ua-cam.com/video/5rW_KbniNqs/v-deo.html At one time it was free! Artists from Aretha Franklin to Wilson Pickett to Clapton and The Rolling Stones recorded there. It tells a lot of the history of Duane Allman when he was simply a session musician in the studio before the band ever recorded their own music. Gregg also tells of how Duane developed his trademark ‘medicine bottle’ slide on guitar! Well worth a watch!
Great song, great reaction video. I will let others give you the next MTB songs to enjoy. But when you are finished with them, I recommend the band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Perhaps the epitome of the genre. Start with Free Bird ( live version in Oakland Ca), and then That Smell ( my favorite Skynyrd song), then maybe Simple Man. Possibilities are endless. But got to give props to MTB, this song has always been easy to listen to.
Mel McDaniel "Louisiana Saturday Night", Alabama "If You're Gonna Play in Texas" Just listened to a classic country song "Della and the Dealer" by Hoyt Axton, his other classic songs "Evangelina" and "Wild Bull Rider". This is more desert Southwest type country, with "Della and the Dealer mentioning Tucson, Arizona, and Evangelina brings in Spanish influence. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Classic storytelling country songs...also, Willie Nelson with Ray Charles "Seven Spanish Angels". Please step out to the desert southwest!!
So glad to see you’re enjoying the southern rock rabbit hole. I’m with the others, gotta check out the Allman Brothers…I vote for Sweet Melissa. 😉 And yes, I saw the MTB in a festival. The music was so good and we were so hammered, lol. Singing and dancing to every song. 🎵🎶
Marshal Tucker Band wildly popular back in the day, and obviously the music is TIMELESS. Your reactions, adds to the fun of hearing these favorite songs from back in our day! All "Boomers" agree....we had the best music. I have to say, there was alot of experimentation musically, going on back then...thank goodness!! Some awesome stuff. "Cattle Drive" is one of my very favorite Marshal Tucker songs.
Glad you like them this is one of my favorites also. I'm not sure if you've reacted to "Bob Segar & The Silver Bullet Band - Against The Wind" this band is extremely popular, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you've heard some of his songs in movies and commercials. I'm also a huge "Allman Brothers" fan "TABB" they are one of the best southern rock blues bands of that era. Bob Segar sways a bit more southern country rock. But this is considered classic rock... you got so many other great suggestions for songs by "TABB" I thought I'd just recommend another artist. But either way it's all great music 😉👍🏻🎶
Have loved Marshall Tucker since the 70's. One of my favorite southern rock bands. Love the flute. Their music always puts a smile on my face. Thanks for reacting to this one. Next up "The Marshall Tucker Band "Fire On The Mountain by Ramblin Records"
If you like Souther Rock as an offshoot, then you would like some earlier offshoots. Johnny Horton would be considered Folk Country. As a Brit, you would enjoy his song "Sink the Bismark" It is a tribute to the valor of the British Navy during WWII.
Here's a list of Southern Rock - I realize some already mentioned! Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, The Allman Brothers Band & Charlie Daniels - saw below, Blackfoot, ZZ Top, Doobie Bros., not always "southern rock" sound but you'd like "Black Water" and others, The Outlaws, Creedence Clearwater Revival (from CA, I think!), Little Feat, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Eagles (sometimes), The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, The Kentucky Headhunters, some consider Atlanta Rhythm Section (more easy listening but ATL maybe?), Stevie Ray Vaughn and The Marshall Tucker Band ("Can't You See" has a great live performance). Folk Rock are: Linda Rondstadt, John Denver, Crosby, Stills & Nash and sometimes CSN & Young, Bob Dylan (I only like "Lay, Lady, Lay"), Neil Young solo, Joni Mitchell, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Harry Chapin, Simon & Garfunkel, Joan Baez, Van Morrison, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Al Stewart, maybe Carly Simon, Arlo Guthrie, The Mammas & The Poppas, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Turtles, America, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Rita Coolidge, Kris Kristofferson (married to each other, still, I guess), Carole King, Jackson Brown, Peter, Paul & Mary, Don MacLean, Dan Fogelberg, The Lovin' Spoonful, Mumford & Sons, Pure Prairie League, Humble Pie, The Little River Band & England Dan & John Ford Coley. Some say Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. The Monkees seem to be folk rock at times, too. I would say Jimmy Buffett, too. There's more but...my whole family is southeastern - FL, GA, LA & now NC. Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot & Molly Hatchet are FL boys. Met some Hatchet members back in the early 90s. Of the 4, Tom Petty & Lynyrd Skyrnyrd are my favorites. Have a good Monday if you get this far! Mentioned before but Vince Gill was in Pure Prairie League.
I absolutely love watching your reactions and your comments, I have literally been watching you all day I checked out your reactions to Elvis and please, please go deeper down that rabbit hole would you please do What Now My Love and Just Pretend , there are so many songs from the King I will be watching you all the time keep up the good work coming to you from Tennessee
Yes sir. I've found so many different types of music because I went down one path then the next thing you know you find yourself down another one that you won't see if you haven't went down the first one. Love that tune . Old song
Southern rock has all the elements! Try the Allman Brothers, ZZ top, bad company, The outlaws, night ranger, Stevie Ray Vaughan, 38 special, Johnny Winter... It goes on and on.
About the flute in unexpected places, you should try Jethro Tull, Locomotive Breath. Find a live version. It’s very different than anything you’re listening to right now but I bet it will blow you away
Southern Rock is as varied as Country Music, but it all comes from the same roots. If you want to hear some great "rockin'" Southern Rock, listen to Molly Hatchett "Flirtin' With Disaster" and Blackfoot "Highway Song".
My favorite genre for road trips. MT uses flute often. I suggest Lynyrd Skynyrd "Simple Man" and "Freebird" Favorite Marshall Tucker is "Fire on the Mountain"
Great reaction! I am enjoying watching your musical journey! May I suggest you try some Travis Tritt. His style is a great blending of country and southern rock! One of my favorites is Son of the New South.
MTB is one of the greatest Southern Rock groups. This song is a bit more country, but who cares, it's a GREAT song. It's similar to their "Can't You See" which is one of my biographical songs. I can't remember if you had done other Southern Rock greats like Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and the Allman Brothers.
The Marshall Tucker Band is hard to beat but there are some more that are great Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, 38 Special, etc. and you have to check out The Doobie Brothers "It Keeps You Running" and "Black Water."
There good but if your wanting to hear a true angel, try Brenda Lee...song is called... I'm sorry...it came out in 1960 she was 15yrs old and she sounds like an angel, I think you'd enjoy that, thank you hope you have a Blessed Night 🌙🙏
You should check out ZZ Top. The little band from Texas. They are a blues/southern rock mix. Lynyrd Skynyrd is mind blowing. My favorite is Freebird, sweet home Alabama and Simple man.
The lines between southern rock and rock are also blurred. Check out Flirtin’ with Disaster by Florida’s Molly Hatchet, especially if you need a boost of energy! Recommend the official audio for this one.
Great reaction. You REALLY need to do Can't You See-Live. I'll be very surprised if it doesn't get the most votes for your next one from them . 24 hrs. At a Time also comes to mind. Hippie Redneck Fort Worth,Texas 🏜⭐🤠
Seen these guys in concert along with Molly Hatchet (Dreams I'll Never See or Flirting with disaster) who are southern rock. Don't think they have a bad song. Check them out.
I saw them on the simple man cruise with Lynyrd Skynyrd Skynyrd music saved my life only band in the world that sings the truth watch Sunday morning with Johnny van Zant there's a new song Jesus Christ you can't miss it 38 special and all Molly hatchet was also on that cruise and a lot of Christians it was like heaven god bless listen to van Zant to simple man south africa
Great reaction! So glad you like southern rock .You should really hear "Playing for Change-The Weight" - It is an organization that takes different songs (this one is southern rock also) and they have singers and musicians from around the world (literally) sing and play it. Featuring Ringo Starr and Robbie Robertson (Robby wrote this song) . Playing for Change wants to bring people of the world together for peace through music. It is stunning and will really lift your heart! Be sure to watch for all the countries and all the different instruments.
Why not just request that he play the real (original) thing from "The Last Waltz"? The Band's arrangement with The Staples is way better than the cover, imo.
Craig I think you’ve reacted to The Eagles’ Hotel California and these 70’s reactions made me think of them. They were one of the biggest bands in America throughout the 70’s and are still performing. Sadly we lost Glenn Frey in 2016 and he was possibly my favorite one of the group. I found a great live performance of Desperado and I’ll drop the link here: ua-cam.com/video/YQbFXnLSbjI/v-deo.html Don Henley is the lead singer on Desperado and Glenn is on piano in this video. This is such a beautifully written and performed song. You won’t be sorry. Also check out Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take It Easy, Best of My Love, Tequila Sunrise .... just to get started. And for perfect harmonies Seven Bridges Road is a must. The Eagles were considered rock or folk rock but their music had a strong country influence. Their songs would often crossover to country radio. Theirs is music that will never die. ♥️
I sent that list of notables for folk & southern rock...I think you'd dig Lynyrd Skynyrd a lot. While they have fast songs, they have 3 most well known ones that are a must! Great guitar as well...great band. Many died around '78 in a small plane crash. Heard a lot of them the following summer at camp and on the radio. "Free Bird" of course. But, also, "Tuesday's Gone (with the Wind)" and "Simple Man." You'd love them, I'm sure. I'll try to stop suggesting. I'm probably being annoying and I've certainly sent many your way. Sorry.
Man u gotta listen to Lynyrd skynyrd. Start off with Simple Man. But we love us some Marshal Tucker. Grew up on Sothern Rock, the Allman Brothers kicked it off, even though they where more blues. Skynyrd really got it rollin' just after so many good bands then.
Your journey through Southern Rock won't be complete without Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman brothers, Molly Hatchet ,Blackfoot and The Outlaws Next from Marshall Tucker Band : take the highway
Great reaction to one Southern Rocks finest, but if you're gonna react to an audio version, please don't use these Vevo uploads as they usually use an edited version and you're missing out on hearing the song how it was intended. I hope you carry on with this journey with The Marshall Tucker Band as you will not be disappointed. To me they were part of the crucial 3 of Southern Rock - The Allman Brothers Band/The Marshall Tucker Band/The Charlie Daniels Band...that's my personal top 3 and even though many will cry foul and say Lynyrd Skynyrd should be there,it's MY top 3,and I love Skynyrd, and had most of their recorded output up until '91,but I'd even put the Ozark Mountain Daredevils ahead...everyone has their likes.
Made me think of the song "Amie" by Pure Prairie League. Hadn't thought about these songs for years.
Southern Rock I believe is my favorite genre of music.
Marshall Tucker Band had some great music
Great song! Glad you like Marshall Tucker! React to Fire on the Mountain or This Ol’ Cowboy. The flute was in Can’t You See too.
Thank you Craig. Toe tapping good fun going on here.
Allman brothers “Soul Shine” 😎
Allman Brothers -- Blue Sky, Ramblin Man, Jessica. Please. Southern Rock at its finest.
From South Carolina, The Marshall Tucker Band is a blend of blues, country and jazz. From the beginning of the flute at the start you know it's going to to be great.

Fire on the Mountain is my favorite and they were wonderful in concert.
