This is southern rock at it's finest. Love their music from the 70's. Some of their other big hits were "Can't You See" & "Heard It In A Love Song". Southern rock fiddler Charlie Daniels did quite a few collaborations with them.
Can't you see was one of my Favorites. Toy Caldwell was such a fantastic singer.
I'm so old that I'm a little stunned when I hear somebody say they've never heard of the Marshall Tucker Band. I remember a time when it seemed like everybody in the world was getting high to MTB. Love your reactions. It's much fun to watch someone discover and appreciate the music that we grew up loving.
I'm 50 and I remember my dad beating my ass when I was 8 and on for getting into his vinyl and playing this song and album over and over. You'd have thought he'd been proud of his son being into this music but he wasn't. Still great memories.
The best ever rockers coming out of Spartanburg. RIP Toy Caldwell.
Early live version of "Can't You See" is the absolute best !!!
Toy THUNDER THUMB live❤👍
MTB may have had more of a country twang but is one of the bands coming out as Southern Rock along with Skynyrd and Allman Bros. Lead singer Toy Caldwell was a Viet Nam vet, and he could bring out emotion like few could. They did make flute playing cool much like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull did. One other song that is a must is "Can't You See", but they have so many great songs. Don't worry about the Confederate Flat, there are still those of us proud of our southern heritage.
Doug Gray was the lead vocalist. Toy did sing lead on "Can't You See". Toy was an excellent guitarist and main songwriter. RIP Toy , Tommy and George and I'll continue to enjoy your music forever
I really enjoyed your reaction. Tommy Caldwell played the lap steel guitar.
Tommy was the bass player , Toy played the pedal steel and lead guitar.
Southern Rock/Outlaw Country well blended for great songs like this and Can’t You See creating classics that have lasted through my lifetime. Marshal Tucker Band’s use of the flute gave them a distinction not found in other bands of this genre, but so effective and instantly recognizable.
Welcome to Southern Rock. Marshall Tucker Band, Pure Prairie League, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniel’s, and so many more ruled the airwaves during my high school years, still love their music today, it’s timeless, No auto tune or any other fancy crap, just sheer southern talent and yes, sometimes the accent or drawl may be strong but its roots are true, love the south.
Yes, the 70's had the BEST music, and I am so glad all of my teenage years were in that decade. MTB has a deep catalog from that era, and ALL of it is great. "Can't You See" should be your next one. I prefer the studio version of that one but lots of folks like the live version from '77. This band had an amazing array of talent, and their ability to flesh out amazing melodies was uncanny. And a big influence on their sound was the fact that they had an essentially Jazz drummer, and he really brings a different feel to all of their songs. I've always felt that pigeon holing them as "Country Rock" is unfair, as they are in a genre all their own.
My teenage years were all in the 70s it was the best of times and the best times in my life. Never realized back then that we were listening to the best music in every genre there is. Kinda sad they call them the oldies now days. But its all I listen too. George McCorkle founding member (Guitarist) was my cuzzin he passed in Jun 2007. Lynyrd Skynyrd pre 77 is my all time favorite band.
Saw these guys live New Year's Eve 1978 into 1979 in New Orleans. It was the first live concert broadcast coast to coast. The concert was over around 2AM, my fraternity brothers were unaware that the busses stopped running at midnight and had to hitchhike back to our campground. Some of the guys got a ride with the road crew for Marshall Tucker, the rest of us got a ride from a couple locals who took us way out into the country. We were thinking it was not going to end well, but to our surprise, the next thing we knew they pulled up on a back road at our campground. What an awesome memory despite being pretty hung over for the Sugar Bowl the next day.
I'm 68 yo and our music told a story. They were stories that we could connect to. No auto tune ...love it.
Love Marshall Tucker Band. So much talent and many great songs. Love your reactions. Thank you
Allman Brothers Band, Whipping Post is a MUST!
Yes sir, saw them live many times. One of the greatest live jam bands of all time. The Filmore East live version of Whipping Post is a must see!!!
If you liked that one, react to their perennial "Can't You See". Southern Rock/Blues Rock at its finest.
As a young teen we would camp on weekends with friends. Open the hatchback and blare Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros, Skynyrd from the 6x9s into the woods and across the campfire, sipping a cold one and enjoying life! And oh, the flag is just a symbol. It's only controversial if you make it so.
Can't you see live in 1973 in Georgia!! Awesome video!! A must react!!!
"Can't You See" is a fabulous song. Their best
SPARTANBURG SOUTH CAROLINA'S FINEST! HOMETOWN BOYS!
Great pick!!!!! Keep the Southern Rock coming!!!! Gotta listen to the live version of Ramblin'(album: Where we all Belong) absolutely KILLER!!!
"Can't you See." So darn good. Please, the old Black and white video is the real deal.
Great song, great group. Met them backstage once back when Toy was still alive and fronting the band. They were kind, cool, humble. Just awesome to see them still holding on to where they came from and not becoming arrogant "Rock Stars". The state of S.C. is proud they call us home.
Great band from my sister state "SOUTH" Carolina. The band is full of Viet Nam veterans and one awarded a Purple Heart. Southern rock all the way!!
The '60s and '70s was a flood of talent in everything. Like an explosion.
You'll have to check out their songs, "Heard it in a Love Song" off of their "Carolina Dreams" album, and "Can't You See"...
Hi from New Zealand. 1st time listening to your reaction channel and I’m loving it.
Like you I was bought up on hard riffin’ guitar and rock and it’s only been in my latter years I’ve gotten into 70s southern rock. I’d like ya to react to a Lynyrd Skynyrd track called ‘That Smell’.
Apart from it being a great song, it has 3 great solos, played by 3 different guitar men, and it allows the listener to hear the difference between Gibson and Fender. The ‘ cream’ of a 59’ LP, the crunch of a 58’ Gibson explorer and the beautiful tone of the Stratocaster. Cheerz
Hey Sebs ! Love your channel man. I'm an old fart from south Carolina, where the marshall tucker band is from. Been loving them for many years! Check out anything from the Album " where we all belong" especially "can't you see". The best to you and yours!
Some deeper gems of MTB: You Aint Foolin Me, Now She's Gone, Southern Woman, A New Life, How Can I Slow Down, I'll Be Loving You, Dream Lover, Bob away my Blues, Bound and Determined
I was born in the '50's so I've been blessed to have grown up with great songs!!!! That flag simply means that they're proud to be southern!!!!
Love their harmonies especially in my favorite, "Heard it in a Love Song." The flute is prominent in this song too.
👍🏽🌟🌟🌟❤
MTB Can’t You See….one of the best
Prob the finest pedal steel effort of all time! Toy learned this instrument in hours!!!!
Heard It In A Love Song is my favorite Marshall Tucker Band song.
MTB is fabulous... along with Charlie Daniels Band and Credence Clearwater Revival... great southern rock!
Further down the southern rock rabbit hole is the outlaws high tide and green grass live triple lead guitars.
Oh no, deary, Marshall Tucker wasn't country. This is Southern Rock at its finest.
This is quintessential Southern Rock! The Marshall Tucker Band is/was from Spartanburg, SC, a small city in the Appalachian foothills. I grew up just across the state line in NC. In case you haven’t figured it out, Southern Rock is its own genre. And, yes, the sixties and seventies had the best music ever!
100% agree!!
They went to my high school. Such a blast from the past.
College girls piling in cars headed to Frat parties and stopping by the Truck Stop in 3:00 in the morning on the way back to the Dorms... thank you for sweet memories.
1979...saw them in college in Ohio.
My favorite MTB song is "Tell it to the Devil." Never made the radio.😢
Love southern rock; maybe because its the era of my youth. Tough times do pass; tough people last.
Voice is uniquely great.
I saw the Marshall Tucker Band live when I was in College back in the early 80's. So good!
That era had such wonderful music. Marshall Tucker Band had so many great hits. Check out Sawyer Brown, too, another phenomenal country band.
Love this group!!! “Heard it in a Love Song” is a favorite of mine! 😊
One of my favorite bands. Remember when this came out, still love it.
that era depended on pure talent. today, the equipment can make a dog sound like pavorati
Saw them in the 90's at the Tulsa City Limits. Epic concert!❤
My son is 42 and since the time he and his best buddy were teenagers, practically every til we got together where a guitar was present, this was always the first song they wanted me to play. They would sing the chorus with me at the top of their lungs! I absolutely loved it!!
Recently saw them, 8 or 10 years ago, the quiver in his voice had taken over.
Their music holds a special place in my heart. Back in the 70s when I thought I wanted to be a marine biologist I spent two summers taking classes at a campus on the gulf coast run jointly by all the universities in my state. Once or twice a week a lot of us would gather on the steps of the dorm with a couple of guitars and more than a couple of bottles of rum and sing late into the night.MTB's songs were always sung each night, sometimes more than once. Good times, good company, good memories, and great music.
I really appreciate you. Your spirit is wonderful!!!
Steel guitar played by someone with "the touch" is an unbelievable sound. These guys were huge back in the day.
There's so much great music out there i'm glad you're reaching out.
Need to do CANT YOU SEE LIVE at Grand ole opry house by Marshall Tucker band and see TOY CALDWELLL sing and play guitar ...Note Toy Caldwell also received a purple heart while in Veiitnam
Marshal Tucker is one of the best of their era
Adored MT. This is my favorite. Was lucky to see them live
One of the songs that I still remember the first time I heard it.
Winter 1975 in a little bar called the keg on the Hudson River in Rensselaer NY across from Albany. Went out with a friend after last match of a wrestling tournament. This was on the juke box.
That was back when the drinking age was 18 and you could go to bars in high school.
I grew up to this. Commercial Fishing family in a tight community where at the beginning of summer the net yards at Fishermen's terminal had 3-7 boats of 5-7 crew working to put nets together, sharing beer food and fun. This music would be playing, and we all just worked to get north and to get a broom in the rigging (100,000 fish). There was healthy competition but a deep camaraderie that only comes from sharing real dangers like combat or bad seas. I would not have grown up any other way despite the losses and injuries Iv suffered. Hope and community are more importent than ANY ideology or woke Narrative. Community will be there when the corporate, woke MSM runs for safety. It music like this that truly tells that Fact. Music that shares a hope and trust in a real moral and ethical foundation. Sorry to preach to you and yours, Bless and be well.
Literally south Rock gods. The 2nd greatest south Rock band ever. RIP Toy Caldwell
So we go to the concert early at the Dallas Convention Center. They unexpectedly open the doors before anyone is there and we walk in. We are told the network went down and it was general admission. Go in and pick out our seats. We went down and sat front row center. Then we thought we were going to have to be looking up a little too much and moved to 7th row center. Perfect.
Great live band with unbelievable vocals.
If you haven’t already reacted to…Try Can’t you see and Heard it in a Love song!! Rock n Roll granny (GiGi)🤘🤙🏻
Yes! Been missing country which MTB is technically Southern Rock. You gotta do Can’t You See. ♥️
One of my all time favorites! Thanks for reacting to this song ❤
Love me some southern rock!
grew up in jersey.first concert i ever went to.was great show
There AWESOME
Talent
Who else wants to hear Sebs sing along again? Just me? I'm thrilled that you are listening to this. Do you know Seven Bridges Road?
One of my favorite bands and I love several of their songs.Heard It In A Love Song is a great song by them too.
Love MTB. Got to see them perform years ago.
Great song. Thanks
I loved "Heard it in a Love Song"
My Favorite Band then and still.
Searchin' For A Rainbow is a great album. I saw them back in the day when they were still playing small venues.
The rebel flag just shows our southern pride. No racism at all. People that think that are the ones that are racist.
Would you have said anything if the flag that you saw in the audiance being shown was the 🌈 flag. Everyone can show their own flag without any feedback unless it is a southern flag and now some will get offended at our American Flag! Our nation is going to hell in a hand basket as my mom used to say. Sheeshhh❤😂
I simply Loved MTB.
Take the Highway by Marshall Tucker Band is a masterpiece
This band is the soundtrack of my 20s, they were so good. I'd consider this rock, I didn't listen to country ,
it's called maturity
Can’t you See is a must see! Live!
FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No censor from me on the flag. not your fault how things go down all over the place. One of the cool things about this band is they played everywhere. No venue too small, even my little town.
Still touring gotta go see them . Saw them in 82 in a lil bar for $5
Just wait till you do “Heard It In A Love Song”. Arguably one of the greatest tunes of its generation
The boys from Sparkle City (Spartanburg, SC).
I feel you would LOVE Louisiana's Leroux first album...killer southern rock....the entire album
As others have said, southern rock not country. This is one of the best bands that ever played the genre.
I would suggest listening to their song “Can’t You See”
Still going strong today with only one original band member. Ride Like The Wind is an all time favorite song but honestly they're all good. 🎶
Shocked to see someone reacting to this song. #1 for me will always be, "In my own way." #2 would be, "Take the highway."
Love me a steel guitar ❤ this band and song
Used to go see them at the sitar club in Spartanburg. They were known as the toy factory.
Favorite band of all time. Listen to Virginia!!
Dude, I learned to play guitar picking along with this song "back in the day". Love me some Marshall Tucker Band. Check out "Heard It In a Love Song"
“Can’t you see” has to be next!
It's so ironic - being a musically spoiled 60-70's brat, I watch your reactions and think "yah, that's the best of my time". But, that's for virtually every song you review, LOL! Marshall Tucker Band WAS a favourite of mine - I gravitated to southern rock, and they were a lyrically and orchestratally (not a word, I know) superior band of that genre. Great driving music!
You really need to listen to Gary Moore.
Either 'Still Got the Blues', or 'Parisienne Walkways'... Your mind will explode.
Love MTB!
There’s a great bluegrass version of this by iron horse that’s awesome
🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Ride in Peace - my friend
You should definitely check out their song “can't you see” it's one of the best songs ever.
❤
