- I’m super excited to be on the last page of my journal! There’s a celebration at the end of one and an anticipation at the beginning of another. Before I switch, I’ve been thinking about the common things I do that show up in all my art. Whether in a journal or on canvas, how I make art and the symbols that reoccur have become so loaded with personal meaning over time. They feel like metaphors for how I experience life. I’ve included my favorite symbol on my final page.
Check it out…
The infinity symbol reminds me that life is a journey of venturing out and returning to yourself. It’s a repetitive process but not a rut; it’s expansive! While venturing out and coming back to you, you’re always learning more about yourself and life. I use such symbols and lines to evoke the freedom I want in my art and life.
What rituals and/or symbols are part of your practice? Let me know in the comments.
In this week’s episode of the Art2Life Podcast as I explore further how art-making and life are related. I’m making a painting while thinking this through. It was super fun! I hope you’ll join me this Wednesday for my next episode. Watch and subscribe to the Art2Life Podcast right here on this channel.
Have a super Sunday!

I have an “8” shape, similar to yours. My daughter was born on 8/8 and eights find her. It’s like my mother-daughter connection to her. I’m usually only drawn to odd numbers, and the 8 is my exception. I also love circles, and the 8 is two connected- twice the fun!! I love hearing about other people’s go tos!! Thanks for this awesome video, Nick!!
Wonderful. I use the infinity symbol and swirls often. I also doodle mandalas everywhere, on everything. Thank you I'm excited to listen to your podcasts, Thank you
This is fascinating! It's making me think about the current Art2Life Challenge 'Start with Love' and how taking notice of what you do when you create relates to what you take notice of when you're not creating- this is really helpful, thankyou, Rae
I love asemic writing, numbers, and circles. I love your work. I love your videos.
As long as you don’t do the same thing over and over again expecting different results your ok! Love your videos .
I end up painting round-ish shapes lately. Which is probably a good thing since I stress out on making something different each time!
Really great hearing you narrate your why while we watch you manifest it. Thanks Nick!
Thank you for all your beautiful work ❤ you are so inspiring.....as a recent subscriber I found this of great interest.....best wishes and hugs from Scotland 🤗
this is great! a search for our own marks, rituals, symbols, processes is a powerful process.. and so curious that others can see these often more easily than we can.
Thank you so much that was very interesting to watch. I’m gonna have to go through my work and see what repeats now that you mention it I never realized that.
I love this so much. Watching this made me think about the practices that I have brought into my Art now that I have gotten bolder and freer. Hearing you speak about your flower reference and infinity symbol made me realize why I do some of the things that I do in my pieces and I see that I have repeating themes in my work that I hadn’t even realized were always there. Thank you for always sharing so freely. I learn so much from your videos and your Facebook group.
I find that circles and squares constantly show up in my work.
That page is a beautiful painting
❤
Lotus 🪷 since forever!
I love alot of numbers, especially repeating ones because I often see repeating numbers like 444!
