Really appreciate you posting these. You're living my dream! 😄 Ahh.... one day I'll get my BRZ on a track. One day... 😀 In the meantime I can enjoy your moments. 👍😁
Sounds like the infamous ice mode kicking in. When I had my 2016 BRZ and had a race instructor on board who did the Continental series. we both had it trigger on midcorner trail braking ( I asked him for braking tips ). it always happened mid corner if any trail braking was applied (power cut timing even with gas pedal to floor)
02:45 Yes and no, some had it some did not, i had a 1989 NA (one of the first ones and that did not have ABS). NB same story some do some do not. From NC forward ABS & TCS is standard :) Great video love your driving.
My NB has no ABS. I also ease into hard stops on and off track. I found out one day just checking out my stopping distance. Went tail happy. Adjusted the bias and now the fishtail mostly gone. Still stuck in my brain tho lol
great driving. Miatas do really well at thunderbolt, they barely have to brake. What are your camera settings? Do you have image stabilization turned off/on? I like how it looks!
Nice driving Eric! I see no reason why you should not be running in the advanced group. I noticed you picked up on the Miata driver holding the turn 1 outside curbing longer. Widen that entry into turn 2 as much as possible.
haha nice!! do me a favor and send it his way! I was talking with him afterwards and he wanted to see the footage I had, not sure if he ever found the channel
No abs for most , if its full racecar, it wont have abs even if it came with it. His early braking could just be not being used to no ABS cause i usually can get in on the brakes pretty hard with no lock up
Good vid, I know you were keen on the comparison with the Miata (MX5 here in Australia) but is that a black 2022 BRZ/GR86 @ 0:29 (Can't make out the badge)? If so, I thought you may have been keen to have a run with them and compare your modified Gen 1 vs the Gen 2?
Trying to learn so this is just a thought. It looks like you might benefit from going slower into some of those corners that the Miata’s can just rail, so that you can pick up more exit speed with that extra hp. Again I’m learning but lmk what you think
could be the case. in general I have a habit of prioritizing minimum speed over exit speed. at this track I was mostly just learning since it was my first time out there. I'd say I was a good second/second and half off pace what I could do with more practice
@@dadhatsgo faster through 4 and get back on the throttle hard. Don’t worry about getting right and setting up 5 to be perfect. More time to be had by hauling ass through 4

What do you use for a lap timer? Does it work pretty well? I have heard of people using an external GPS for a better refresh rate but heard using the phone isnt too bad
racechrono! I highly recommend it. also def suggest picking up an external gps, a phone's gps is pretty inaccurate they only update once a second. most external gps are accurate to the tenth if not more
I’d be surprised if it was truly 120 hp. It may be more like around 140 hp or so if it’s a 1.8. I have a 2001 with ITBs and it’s around that power. Mine is a Base model and did not come with ABS.
Depends on year but it would be considerably less than 140 (even if measuring to crank not wheel) the averages depending on what year it is to the wheel rarely get to 105hp for late model 1.8's with engines in immaculate condition that haven't lost much power to age as most 30yo engines do, but a rough average to the wheel (taken from many different dyno measurements off of forums and the people at flyin miata) looks like; 1.6 - 89-93hp 1.8 - 95-101 The nb's 1999+ got a respectable boost in power they tend to start closer to 110-115hp to the wheel for the 1.8's Even with intake and exhaust mods it's at best prolly 100-105, a good flowing exhaust more or less will correct the hp loss due to aging rather than actually increasing hp, nice noticeable boost in the torque curve same with a good intake
it's decent but it really depends on the layout. you know which one you'd be running? I have a feeling you wouldn't be running north/south course like I have in my videos.
@@dadhats was that at Mpact? The full weekend rates are pretty much in line with everything else I’ve seen think you get 4-5 sessions a day in DE but haven’t DEd in a few years now
Thanks for sharing with the rest of us Dads that can't get out there right now. Much appreciated and get some coffee on us!
thank you so much! appreciate the support!!
A miata in capable hands is quite a thing! Great driving dude just subbed
That Mazda sounds really good, congrats for the pilot too
Such a relaxing video. Please keep making these, love them 👌
Always a banger video when you post!

gotcha! I figured that was the case and assumed that's why he was braking conservatively in t1.
thanks for the quick answer and for watching!

Gentle with those pedals, brother. Trailing throttle oversteer is an evil beast.
I feel like at lap 5 and on you started driving outside your range, overall it was a sick track day it looks like
Gas money 😎🏁🏃♀️
lol thanks for that dave!! 🫡
great driving. Miatas do really well at thunderbolt, they barely have to brake. What are your camera settings? Do you have image stabilization turned off/on? I like how it looks!
thanks! most of my GoPro settings were on auto the only notable changes I made were maxing out the fov. and yes image stabilization def on!
That miata probably only uses the brakes thrice per lap - T1, T5 and T8, and flat out otherwise with maybe a lift in a couple spots.
that's wild you're probably right. now that I think about it that might be true for me too 🤔 maybe with the addition of t6?
That GT86 sounds so good…

thank you! I actually just moved up to advanced this year but since this was my first time at thunderbolt I decided to sign up for inter
This is great. I’ll definitely be watching more vids. I hope to one day get my rsx on a track

Ive only been at a track twice and neither time was I driving, but i thinks it’s hilarious that miatas tend to be the loudest cars on any given track
straight piped na cars are brutal. I've had similar experiences with e36/e46s and Hondas too lol
Strange watch racing without voice changers lol wish highway Swimmers would do more track days like this

Hey. We’re you at the June jame with NASA? Was a great event I was there Sunday.
nope don't typically run with NASA!

If he is running those tires and claimed that HP it differently sounds like it’s a SM(Spec Miata)
Get rid of the rev matching, a couple of us had it put on, and found it to be dangerous, turn it off, tuner will be able to tell you how
really? what problems did you run into? mines been solid, been running it like this for 3 seasons

depends what part of Virginia I suppose. VIR is a top 3 track in my opinion.
