Can someone explain the staircase thing a little better? If it was counterclockwise, wouldnt that ensure the sword hand is against the wall all the time?
imagine you going up clockwise and you pull out your sword and swing it with your right hand, you dont have much space to swing but the one who was attack you from above has more room to swing the tower wall round space was wider vs the main pillar of the middle , you really can swing your sword much unless you just using stabbing motion with your sword, dagger, spear etc, etc
their sword hands generally are the right hand. so you can swing it better when your up the stairs fighting the men trying to come up.
James Morris the spiral staircase was built clock-wise going up, so where the stairs met in the center there was basically a large vertical pillar blocking your right arm, an attacker going up couldn't get a full swing. the defender going backwards up the stairs had the inside of an open circle to complete the swing.
Needs trebuchet and ballista. They should call me...
I think American should be a giant castle. One big beautiful castle with a fresh water source moat
