  • By request, here are two examples of how I approach writing reviews for two different products, one simple and another more complex. Includes unsolicited advice on review rejections and work-life balance.
    The products mentioned in this video were obtained for free through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for a review on Amazon.

    I have a question on my amazon profile. I’ve never really filled it out completely and some of my interests have changed since creating my amazon account. My question is how relevant is my profile info to products I am shown on my vine account or is it just based mainly on my browsing history?

    If only the vender knew to set their ETV ( Estimated Tax Value) to 0 ZERO. Their shit or great items would get scooped up in seconds vs days or weeks.

    You're absolutely right: there are different approaches to writing reviews so you do you. I can only assume I got picked for my quick, funny, informative reviews. I hit the highlights but make it fun. I always think, "Would _I_ want to read this review?"
    For instance I wrote a review about a coffee cup. Who doesn't know what a coffee cup is? So, my review took me through the process of learning how to drink out of a cup. I sneakily snuck in the features of the cup while describing how I used the device, aka "cup", and how it has made my life so much better. All tongue in cheek of course. Okay, that wasn't a short one but still.
    Oh, and as far as photos and videos I've found those take SO much longer to be approved since they take so much longer to check that the reviewer isn't doing something shady. And you get _zero_ feedback on why your reviews are or aren't approved.
    For instance I did a review on some utility knife blades. I needed to cut up all of those Amazon boxes so to demonstrate how much easier these blades made my life I did a photoshoot of:
    Huge pile of boxes.
    Knife blades I got.
    A utility knife with blades installed.
    Showing I used safety utility gloves to protect my hands.
    Boxes now in a neat stack of broken down boxes.
    And finally a shot of me waving to the garbage person taking the boxes away.
    It took me a whole day to shoot; in-between sipping homemade cappuccino macchiato lattes and watching old reruns of Oprah. And it was rejected! Why?!
    I can only guess it was because I had a picture of a knife in the review. A picture of a knife using the _knife blades_ the review was about. It would have been helpful if I actually knew why it was rejected. Maybe it's against Community Guidelines to show pictures of caramel latte lathered coffee cups since some people are lactose intolerant? Who knows? It's mishegoss.
    As you can see, I'm succinct. Never verbose.

    I'm totally hybrid aswell, but unless I'm over deadline and haven't been able to fully implement usage of an item then I dont photos,
    But I find those with videos and photo usually get more likes
    Except 1 star items don't get picture and a couple lines explaining why the product is awful and they still get likes

    Oh, and saving a copy of the review is a great idea.

      The worst is when you leave a long review with photos and video, then the product listing is deleted so no way to even submit a review (and you can't re-submit yours to whatever listing now has their product). :(

    I record a 30 sec video for my reviews. I usually record like 20 to 25 reviews in one sitting. Easy and fast way to knock out everything quick.

    • @oO5Dynasty

      @@heidimull Right so I include text as well. With my 30 sec video, I gather my thoughts and get all of my info into the 30 secs quick. Then I put standard text that goes along with my video. So I keep my reviews short but packed with quick information.
      - Great Tasting
      - Packaged well
      etc. you get the point.
      This way I can do almost 30 reviews in one sitting.

    I tend to put what it is in the first line of the review (brand, model, product name, or name in the ad) to eliminate any confusion on what the review is if the seller is reusing a product page with a new product, or a newer item, or a product page that has multiple models. I try to do photos too, but not always. I also give more details reviews on items I know more about going into it.

      That's a fantastic process, I keep forgetting the importance of stating the product name in my review. As a customer I used to be annoyed by it as I thought it was "fluff" to make a review longer, but after hearing why reviewers did this I try to remember to do it too. Thanks for doing this and highlighting the importance of it!

    Wow this really helps. I can relate so much with wanting to leave thorough reviews of things I like (or things that are bad, and to explain what's bad). Your reminder helps me remember that they don't all have to be ones that take an hour to make.
    2:26 The for inflation needle I'd just describe how I used it. That still gives useful information. "Got it to fill basketball, fit fine on pump held in ball firmly, didn't leak."
    3:08 Very good point, I hadn't really registered that. People are reluctant to initially buy because they're spending their money on it. So fundamentally they just need reviews of any kind.
    3:35 I'm blown away by this. This really helps me focus on what matters in the review. Such simple ways to find really useful things to mention.

    Thank you for this. It helped me differentiate between what is a core ethic and what is perfectionism that is a flip side of both pride and insecurity. I realized that on the other end of every product I receive at no cost from Amazon is a seller who paid all the expense for me in order to succeed in selling the product. I owe that seller a fair, objective, and constructive review or I am freeloading, and violating the terms I agreed to. It has nothing to do with length of review, or pictures, video, etc. It means delivering the information I would value if I were trying to decide on purchasing the item. If I submit the review with a clear conscience, it doesn't matter how many sentences it contains. Job done as agreed! You are gem. God bless you. Oh, and one more thought--Amazon does not require a minimum number of reviews--just that we review what we request. If my obligation to family, work, or whatever is suffering, I think I'd better stop requesting more products than I can manage.

    • @heidimull
      @heidimull  Рік тому

      I love that! "If I submit a review with a clear conscience, it doesn't matter how many sentences it contains." I 100% agree.
      Yeah I no longer request more products than I can manage. Initially my family was in significant need of the items and I lived with profound anxiety of being kicked out any day as I had heard stories of it happening to others. So just like when your family needs money and you try to force yourself to work even though it's unmanageable, my family needed these items so I tried to make it happen even though I was in over my head.
      I'm so glad I'm past that now, we finally have our material needs met for the most part so I've been able to slow way down in my requests.

      Rejections feel just terrible, don't they? Sometimes I find it's easier to be long winded. I'm so amused that the item I picked was actually helpful to you! My son is at high risk for autism due to a brain injury at birth, but he's 16 months and so far not showing many signs so that's yet to be determined. How old is your daughter?

    I used to take so much pride in my reviews. I used my writing skills & talent, and made the reviews so beautiful & so lovely. I could take a "boring" item and make a beautiful review out of it. Sometimes I would even make charts & lists within the review. And then one day, one of my reviews was rejected because they said the review was inappropriate. I asked what was wrong with it, but they wouldn't tell me. So now my reviews are generic, I say I either like it or I don't like it, and not much else. I'm afraid to write a good review now, because I'm afraid it'll get rejected. And I did get my feelings hurt when my review was rejected, after all the time, energy, thought, style, and pride I put into them.

    • @heidimull
      @heidimull  Рік тому +1

      Ugh, I'm so sorry. I believe you that you pulled all your talent into it, and that got rejected. I don't get a reason with mine either. There have definitely been times I got one rejected that I had poured a lot of thought and useful anecdotes and humor into it, and when it got rejected I wrote another review that was just a few basic lines. If that's what Amazon prefers, then that's what they'll get. Can't say I didn't try.
      But nowadays I try to get better at saving them just in case.
      I understand where you're coming from and I hope the world gets to benefit from your writing skillset elsewhere.

    • @DAS-Videos
      @DAS-Videos Рік тому +1

      Same thing happened to me. I wrote a detailed review about a vine product, and Amazon rejected it without giving a reason. So I redid the review and, to be specific I did not give the item's USB protocol because the description said it was USB 2.0 and the package I received said it was USB 3.0. Then I saw that review was reinstalled on the item's product page. Then one day later (yesterday 1/26) all of my reviews prior to becoming a vine reviewer were removed! When I clicked the 'Write a review' button, a copy of them was still there so I submitted 5 or 6 reviews again. I looked this morning and they have not been reinstalled. I put 30 or 40 minutes into all of my reviews including editing photos, it is very frustrating. What it tells me is that Amazon manipulates reviews to slow down sales for sellers. The reviews that were removed were positive reviews.

    • @DAS-Videos
      @DAS-Videos Рік тому +1

      Another thought I have as a result of Amazon manipulating reviews is, I probably won't write reviews for products I purchase from them. What's the point, if they pick and choose which reviews are shown for a product.

    • @gblargg
      @gblargg 11 місяців тому +1

      Plus you see people leaving AI-written reviews, or just glowing reviews of a product with tons of problems. You see how much your good review is diluted by all the others. I think in the end you need to leave reviews that make you feel good. I liked writing reviews before Vine, so I just think of what I would be proud of and let the other people who make a joke of it do their thing.
