So when you first started this painting was that just a black Gesso with acrylic flecked stars? Or was the background black oil and the stars oil? Then a liquid clear over that?
Yes, I pre-paint a lot of the space ones with black gesso and acrylic flecked stars (actually, I often use white gesso for the stars since I have it at hand). I then usually use liquid clear (or a suitable medium - I've tried a few others for this process but liquid clear seems to work the best for me most of the time) over the whole canvas and then paint, so that the stars "shine" through a bit. At least, that's often what I do for these space paintings - I've definitely broken all my "rules" depending on what I'm doing, haha ;)
Excellent art
You are an incredible painter!

Did you teach yourself or go to a school? I'd really love to paint as a career as well.
