Thanks! I really wanted that nice orangey-yellow and dark reds/blues for this one (I painted the middle of the canvas with white gesso to start with because I was worried that the yellows wouldn't have the right hue/effect if it had black behind it). Space scenes are always fun :D
This is so, so, sooo well-done and know this vid is older'ish but I'm wondering if the brushes are Blick Masterstroke acrylics and not their Sable line. I could be wrong, they may not be from Blick at all lol.. but the look spot-on the same.
So I tried to mimic this for my first painting it isn't even close but looks okay. I don't know how you layer so clearly my paint tends to mix together.
If you use more liquid viscosity paint as the background colors, the thicker paint sticks to it better in the foreground. Thinning with linseed oil helps ☺️
I believe there were browns and reds in the black, but it's been a long time since I painted this one so I can't be sure. No, I generally paint alla prima/ "all-at-once" so this was done within a day; I would guess about 4 hours for this one but I'd have to find the original video info to find out for sure. Thanks for asking!
@@Scenesbycolleen Thank you for replying! I used this video to help me paint a piece I was needing a galaxy in and found it very helpful. If you want to see it its on my insta @rjvisionaryart (the most recent post)
Yes, the black with white stars (and the white area I portioned out for the middle of the galaxy) are done in acrylic (actually, with gesso). I like to "build up" color and light that way, particularly for space paintings, but I wanted to make sure the center was particularly light in this case. Thank you! :D
I'll try it, but your not talking and a percent of the painting being done when the video started, will make me have to figure somethings out. Wonderful painting though. I'll watch more of your vids as I continue to practice to reach the next level. Thank you teacher.
Yes, I generally made the timelapses because they're fun for me to watch; I'm not really teaching in these. I'd probably slow them down quite a bit and add some instructions. Feel free to ask me questions though, and I'll do my best to help you out :) As for the background that I did before I started, I simply (1) painted the entire canvas with flat black gesso (black acrylic paint should work for this), (2) used white gesso (white acrylic paint will work for this) on a fan brush and "flicked" it across a palette knife to get the stars on the canvas (I show this in another video somewhere, but there are many ways to do this), and (3) I used a little bit more of that white that was already on the fan brush to just make a center area so that I could have a general idea of where I would paint (and that the yellows that I use in the video would show up a little better with white behind it instead of with black behind it). I let the gesso (acrylic) layers dry (which doesn't take very long) before I paint. I didn't make a video of it for this one because I had gessoed it up along with a few other canvases days before, and it was a pretty simple thing to do. Much of that gets covered up anyway - the only real important part (for me) is that there's a black background since I like to "work up" the whiter/lighter colors. Good luck! :)
Thank you very much! The canvas that I start with is pre-gessoed with black and white acrylic gesso. The actual painting is done in oils, and wet-in-wet all at in one sitting (alla prima). :)
Amazing absolutely amazing
The contrasts are amazing in this piece. Very, very nice!

This was the inspiration I was needing!
This is simply stunning! When you used the knife to add the black, my jaw dropped. I cant believe how intense it was.
Aw, thanks very much! :D

@@chantellehouston4086 thank you!!
What color did you use for the black park of space, was there blues in the black? Also, how long did this take to paint, just 1-5days?
