  • Market watchers expect Certificate of Entitlement (COE premiums) to rise in the short to medium term, driven by higher demand for electric vehicles and more models coming into Singapore. This is as more Chinese EV brands are looking to enter the Singapore market with a bigger range to offer. CNA's Nasyrah Rohim reports.

People want to buy car and will choose between ICE and EV. Why would that increase the demand? The demand is the same. Don't blame EV for high COE. COE is high and cost of living in Singapore is highest in the world. Singaporean, be content with living in small flat and take public transport. Don't complain. Don't compare with the US, Australia etc big house and car.

I got a secret, don't tell the public : COE can be zero dollars if follow the fair system like the hdb ballot system. But the world highest tax on cars aka COE is good for country revenue among other purposes. So we must never tell people my secret

All these eventually who will benefit from it and who are those we are victim of it? Where are society is heading? Is this just affected this area or it is a ripple effect on expenses? It is scaring what will happen in 5 year's time? Unless we can change the controlling factors most of us will be under control by the system. Work your sum and put your brain to combat this and win.

It is not about number car buyers on bringing up the COE. It is the number of car dealers fighting for the COE, which will bring up higher COE.

More good years ahead for those holding out. If more buying EV now without significant increase of their salary over years or using their existing petrol cars to cushion with better trade in price, it will be unlikely they can afford a new car moving down the road. Just ask yourself how much willing you pay for a used mobile phone. EVs batteries changing is not cheap nor they will be in the future. they are not built to swap out the batteries, at least not for models sold here.

❤If not for the Majority voters support, the popular COE system may not have lasted for over 30 years (collected how many billions??) . Who can enjoy such a world class system of taxation without the majority voters enablement that gave them the mandate? Singapore tax is too low. We love it. Majulah of the spore

    CNA, with such headline,
you are helping influence people who need a car, many just a bread and butter model, into accepting that current already ridiculously high COE will go higher, hence be prepared to part more money and contribute to LTA coffer. Not a good journalism work.

EVs are perfect for Singapore. They are quiet, non-polluting and with the small size of Singapore, there is no range anxiety whatsoever. Because of the high vehicle density, ICE cars are the cause of high air pollution and the uncomfortable increase of urban temperatures. More than anywhere else, the government should shift to 100% EVs for the health and quality of life for their citizens.

The Current Infrastructure; Power Grid, Sub Stations CANNOT Support EVs. Just Look at Jurassic Level 1 chargers installed in the Heartlands is a Damn Joke.
