Thanks man! Honestly, when I first recorded that track I thought the riff was pretty okay, but okay enough to demonstrate what I needed to demonstrate with it. But when I listened to it back when I was editing the video, I actually thought it sounded pretty lame. LOL Glad you liked it!
Thanks Robert, this fuzz almost makes me want to take mine off my desk (paperweight). I thought the sound in the demo track was a really good doom metal like tone. I may have to try to find a useful tone for mine. Great video series and I look forward to more. Wish I could give more than one thumbs up.
Fuzz was huge in the late 60’s ..we covered songs like The Human Beings “Nobody but Me” and Hendrix’s “Fire” among others!! Thanks Robert for the update!!
I used to feel the same way about fuzz, and still do on a lot of it. However, the EHX Big Muff with the gain set at around 9 o'clock, volume at about 4 o'clock, tone at noon, boosted by an overdrive sounds absolutely wicked. It behaves more like a distortion but has a really cool, broken sounding bottom end. I've also found that the volume all the way up, gain and tone all the way down, makes a really cool 'clean' sound. Also, the Behringer SF300 is very fun to play with if the gain isn't cranked.
It’s ok if you don’t like fuzz, Robert. I don’t like gold-top Les Pauls. 🤷🏻♂️ I almost bought one of these when I wanted to try fuzz, but I bought the Behringer Super Fuzz instead. I can find some uses for fuzz while recording, but I’m not big on it either, turns-out. Rock on. 🤘🏻
Hey Robert! That pedal is Joyo's take on the Fulltone Ultimate Octave (which in turn is their take on the Foxx Tone Machine). The octave effect should be more pronounced playing single notes using the neck pickup - and maybe also lowering the guitars volume knob just a bit - although it's not the best octave-fuzz you will hear (if even that is a objective thing). That said, I built some Fulltone Ult. Oct. replicas in the past, and I really liked them for what I was expecting to be. But Joyo is not a "perfect" replica of it, and the only one I tried was underwhelming to say the least. There are mods to make it better sounding, but as it is new out of the box....meh.... Also, I know you like at least one fuzz pedal. 😘 Cheers from sunny Portugal!
Yep, you are correct, sir. Yours is the only fuzz pedal that I will take to my grave with me! I never knew what the Voodoo Octave was a clone of, so this info is very interesting. Thanks for sharing dude!
I read that fuzz was originally invented to re-create the sound from a defective console. I was never a big fuzz fan until the last few years, but I find that I really need to use an S/S/S equipped guitar to get the most out of them. I don't care too much for fuzz with humbuckers.
First of all: Tthe Ministry meets Type O Negative vibe of that riff is really cool. So I have this old Shin-Ei Fuzz Wah. And this Joyo has that same filthy quality, but then controlled. I actually like it.
Yeah, those are two GREAT fuzz sounds. This is an Octive Fuzz so it is different, like what Hendrix used for the solo of Purple Haze. I think Octive Fuzzs only sound good when used for solos like Hendrix did. He used the Fuzz Face for his normal Fuzz sound, which is way more useful for an all around Fuzz. I use the Fuzz Face, I find it very useful, especially since you can roll off the Volume and get different levels of sound, from all out Fuzz, to softer Fuzz, to crunch/edge of breakup, and the finally a glassy dirty-clean sound that I really like.
Didn’t think I wanted a fuzz pedal till you did one of your comparisons. Wound up getting the EH flat iron fuzz. Which by the way I’m pretty sure is the one fuzz you like. Keep the videos coming. 🤘🏻🤣
That’s not really a fuzz pedal, despite the name. That’s a Rat clone, which walks the line and can GET fuzzy, but it’s technically not a fuzz. About the only fuzz pedal I actually LIKE is this one, and even then that’s because it does a lot more than just fuzz. ua-cam.com/video/YZ6YdKAYZVg/v-deo.htmlsi=FAFnWXfCqgunqhM6
There was a pedal I requested you to demo a year ago. That was the MRX Super Bad Ass Pedal. But it never happened. So I saw it on another channel instead. If I was to buy another pedal. That would be the pedal I want.
I haven’t forgotten! However, MXR has not responded to my requests, and I don’t do very demos at my own expense anymore, for obvious reasons. Hopefully I’ll get to demo it one of these days.
"I really, really dislike fuzz" .. Proceeds to bang out some extremely sick riffs using a $40 fuzz pedal like an absolute fuzz-boss

While agree with you when it comes to my normal sounds i shoot for... It is fun messing around with fuzz from time to time.
Hey man,
I’m with you on the fuzz pedal thing, and your busted speaker analogy is spot on ahah!
It’s not an analogy. That’s LITERALLY what fuzz was originally designed to emulate.
@@RobertWJackson I did not know that, interesting and pretty nuts if you think about it lol 😂

i think it might work better for the higher strings then low notes.
That sounds like a description of a pretty useless pedal. LOL
@@RobertWJackson ya, to be honest i didn't like it. i think most fuzzes are just too over the top. the original ones i think were more subtle.
I like fuzz if it's dialed just right. Some sound better than others.

The Behringer Super Fuzz is awesome, I have one also. I think it is supposed to be a clone of a Boss FZ-3 Fuzz.
@@JDStone20 Yes, according to Josh at JHS, it’s a perfect clone.
I actually don’t like Gold Tops, either. LOL Though, the story behind them is a great story in guitar lore.
Thank you for the info.

You know, this replaced the 200 dollar reissue i bought.. the mid cut and its fuzziness and more sustain than the real deal
I love fuzz and muff. No muff too tuff!

When I think of Fuzz, I think of Summer Breeze by The Isley brothers, and A Girl like you by Edwyn Collins. The sound of this was something different.

Fuzz and analog phaser are the primary ingredients for Ernie Isley's Summer Breeze tone.
A Leslie speaker and a little delay won't hurt either.

@@RobertWJackson There's no hurry.
You rock bro
Big fuzz fan. Therefore I checked the latest Catalinbread pedals 😊
Sounds fine to me.
I've got one of these. It is a pretty cool pedal considering the price. Just one guys opinion.
Supposedly this is a clone of the Foxx Tone Machine Fuzz and Danelectro French Toast
Danelectro French toast is still the best
Definitely redo the metal muff by Electro-Harmonix. I wonder if your opinion has changed.
Nope, it hasn’t. It’s still a dog shit distortion pedal.
The octave up on the joyo is totally unusable tho
Is that pedal a tad moist for metal music? Nahh, probably just that it's better for the solos than the rhythm 😊
Now, that pedal really, really sucks.
@@dawnr8511 I make it sound good. Listen to 'Magick Key (demo)' by The Kadeem Ward Project
Mucho brillo...en fin algo está mal, no es agradable...pero en si he oído este pedal suena genial
Breaks my heart everytime Robert says he hates fuzz 😢
No disrespect, but that’s actually kind of pathetic. 🤣🤣🤣
Demo starts @ 3:21. Mucho talky talky.
Moist.
terrible pddle. I got one in a trade as a bouns. I hate the pedal
Sounds like a 7 string. Nice
The pedal is horrible by the way
Horrible
