You weren’t alone in your method! There was at least 2 guys at my college who’d knit stuff for girls. And it was good quality stuff! Yeah they were doing it to flirt & it was obvious. But everyone wore their scarves & hats with pride. One of them was a nice guy that I was mildly interested in. But he never offered to make me one. So one day near the end of the semester I asked if he could make me one. He said no. I offered to pay for the scarf. Still said no. I’m still single to this day.
