- Giouvetsi or Yiouvetsi is a traditional greek meal combining meat with orzo pasta with tomato sauce. Check out my recipe, you too can make it easily at home. Enjoy, kali orexi!
Ingredients: 1kg beef for stew, 500gr orzo pasta, 1 big chopped onion, 1 crushed clove garlic, 500ml tomato purée, 1 teaspoon tomato paste, 2 bay leaves, 4-5 all spice corns, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/2 glass of red wine, stock, salt and pepper.

Πολύ ωραίο,μπραβο
Χαίρομαι που σας άρεσε, καλές γιορτές!
I thaw the orzo rice to prevent it from becoming too mushy when cooking. Thaw it with olive oil. Got this hint frim Masterchef Akis Petretzikis..makes huge difference
Wow, nice
I am glad you like it
If you really wanna be precise 2 cups orzo (rice-shaped pasta) plus 5 cups liquid (natual juices + water) ensures great results.
love from india
Nice Katerina Sister जी 🙏🙏!!

Grazie a voi Pasquale! :) Ciao to Italia, hope you are all healthy and well!
Hi Katerina! I’m making this wonderful dish tonight for the first time and all I have is ground allspice, how much do you think I should you? Thank you for this amazing recipe!
Hi from Greece. A pinch or two should be enough. Thank you too for your kind words and for making my recipe. Looking forward to your feedback. Kali orexi!
Thanks for the video.may I ask you without wine I can put something else?
You can leave the wine out, it's no problem :) It will still taste fantastic!
half vinegar and half water = wine.
The recipe looks amazing. What can I substitute for the wine.?
You can ommit the wine, no problem. The taste will still be there. Kali orexi!

Looks delicious. I will make it today. Can I add a cinnamon stick? I've seen some youvetsi recipes with cinnamon. Efxaristo! Kalo Paska!
Yes, of course you can, it will taste delicious! Cinammon stick in tomato sauce is always a winner. I look forward to your feedback, I hope you enjoy it!
@@GreekCookingbyKaterina Loved it. Absolutely delicious!

@@GreekCookingbyKaterina thanks, yes we are celebrating Greek Easter. OPA!
what is the cookware you are using?
The pressure cooker is Fissler and the baking pan is Neoflam
What is the "pimento"? I don't recognize what you used for that. Pimentos are red peppers, in my experience. Love your cooking.
Hi Margaret, thank you for your kind comment. I used the word as it is written on the bottle I buy those in. I didn't know the word in English. I have an English friend who had the same question as you. He was kind enough to inform me that in the UK they call it "Allspice". In google translate I can find as "spice". I am not sure if this helped, please let me know if you find out what it's called so I know which term to use from now on! Thanks again :)
It looked like a whole "peppercorn", what is used to make ground black pepper. If you could send me a picture, up close, I could probably tell you. From what I can see, it is a small, roundish, hard. I thought maybe it was 'capers' but those are in a brine. They just look like whole peppercorns to me, but if you could send me a picture....marg1994@yahoo.
Thank you for your prompt reply. I want to make lahanodolmades, do you have a video for that?
Hi again Margaret. They are not peppercorns. They are slightly bigger in size but don't taste as pepper, they taste like middle eastern spice. You don't eat those, you have to remove them when the food is ready. We use them only for the aroma. Google "allspice" and see the photos, I am pretty sure now that's what it is. I don't have a video recipe for lahanodolmathes yet but I have one for regular vineleaves dolmathes. ua-cam.com/video/sEkvV2qlOgg/v-deo.html. Boil a whole cabbage (first remove the center hard part from the bottom) and pick the leaves that look nicer for stuffing. Then proceed with the regular dolmathes recipe. Hope this helped :)
Then that is allspice. Thank you so much. I love the fragrance of Greek cooking, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and now allspice! Thank you for taking the time to clear that up. Opa!
My pleasure Margaret! May I ask where you're from?
What is Celsius?
Not Fahreneit, but Celcius. In Europe and Greece we use °Celcius
Ich liebe dich💕Katerina 👏💞
☺️☺️🤗
and cinnamon
Kratharaki is not Orzo. Even I know that...
Looks delicious though, and so do you!

Panos A yeah, that was creepy. I must have been drunk lol
Apologies to the poster of this video.
It's very hard to hear what you are saying over the cooking, music, fan, and banging noises. Also, what do you mean by "pimento"? To Americans, a pimento is a piece of roasted red pepper.
Manestra oxi kritharaki.
ORZO LEGETE--OXI OZZO ---WTF?
Φυσικά, orzo λέγεται, ο δαίμων του τυπογραφείου πάτησε δύο φορές το z. Στο βίντεο όμως ακούγεται καθαρά ότι το προφέρω orzo.
Greeks do it better!
